the way i see it... forget all the games in the past. it is how we play now. if we get to 11-5 playing great football down the stretch, nobody will care how you got to 5-3. remember 2 years ago, we started the season 5-6 playing ugly football. we strung together 5 in a row and people were picking us as the darkhorse to go to the superbowl. right now, at least we put ourselves in a spot that if we start playing good football, we have a chance to get to 12-4 or 11-5. i'll take that over us being 3-5 right now, and a good run makes us just 8-8 and all we would have to talk about, with our season is over, is how we finished strong. if i was a redskin coach/player/fan right now, i would try to keep things in perspective and hope for the following...
1) this week... beat the eagles (home field, 3 point favorites, get it done)... 6-3
2) split the following 2 road games (at dallas, at tampa)... 7-4
3) beat both buffalo and chicago at home. (we will be favored in both. vs. bills -7, vs. bears -3)... 9-4
4) split the road games vs. giants and vikings (may even be favored vs. vikings)... 10-5
5) come home to finish the season against the cowboys with the outcome determining 10-6 or 11-5.
i don't think this is too much to ask for... win the games we'll be favored in... eagles, bills, bears, vikings... and win 1 we are not... cowboys, bucs, giants... do that, and we have our record 10-5 into the dallas game. and everyone forgetting the "ugly" 5-3 start.
the new season starts NOW!!!
