B Lloyd must go thread

Post by 1niksder »

There was a thread created to ask Lloyd questions for his week Podcast but it seems to have been mistaken for a thread to comment on the play or perceived lack of play from Mr. Lloyd. So instead of killing the opportunity for those that actually can follow board rules and have question for Lloyd, here's a place to post your gripes

This thread could have been started by any number of those members that chose to vent in open question thread had they wanted to play by the rules.

Anyways back to the topic of this thread, the major complaint seems to follow along the lines of he gave up on the 2nd Int.

Well what did he do on the play?

Image
He went up for the ball...

Image
Image
He battled for the ball... 8)

Image
He lost the battled

Image
And fell on his face :x

Looking back he put in the effort to go after the ball yet we keep hearing how he lacks effort.
Haven't heard any complaints about what surely looks like a overthown ball.

Next was he gave up on the play...

Image
He was flat on his face yet he's up and chasing down the DB :?

Image
Coming out the endzone he was gaining on the ball carrier

But someone was waiting on him
Image

I don't how much more he could have done, QB's overthrow receiver and receivers miss judge balls every now and then but it happens and there is no reason for people to be coming down on the guy the way that it's been going.

But if you must do it here and not in the question thread.

Rewatching the play may help also.

Stop trying to confuse people with facts. It's so much more fun to rant without any basis in fact.

He gave up on the play as soon as he noticed the back of the jersey of #26. He needs to finish the play and try to at least bull someone over while trying to get to the ball carrier. I am not saying that he should go anywhere rather he should have given more effort in that instance.

It looks like Lloyd totally out jumped the guy.

Did he pull the ball out of Lloyds hands or did the ball never touch Lloyds hands?

He didn't see the back of jersey #26 until the ball carrier was out of bounds, by rule the play was finished.

Brandon -should- stay with us. It was not a great pass, it was not well timed, and Lloyd was not open. The ball was not sent to a spot where he had any position advantage. It was a pass closer to a "hail Mary" rather than a precisely executed play.

I could not confirm or deny whether he ran his route well. But I remember very clearly that when Campbell passed, he was not open. He was sent to fight for the ball and only a few inches made the difference.

The whole passing game to players other than ARE was not good at all. I remember to have identified open receivers at various plays that did not get the ball. We are still struggling with reads.

I am not blaming Campbell because it takes two to dance: a passer and a receiver. They are not on the same page, obviously.

The play is just a big cluster you-know-what.

Some believe Lloyd got frustrated and quit on the route. Jason threw the ball where he should have been and Lloyd couldn't get there...

Some believe that Jason simply overthrew the WR which he wasn't doing Sunday. He was just throwing the ball high.

Who knows what happened. I don't like what's happening though. There seems to be shovels in the lockerrom and rifts are being dug as we speak.

I've seen Lloyd get a hell of a lot higher than that. For HIM, I feel that he didn't give much effort on the play, he didn't go UP, he went FORWARD it seemed to me. This isn't an ISOLATED incident like Moss's first game vs the Dolphins. This is a CONTINUATION from last year. I've seen ZERO improvements from last year, and until he DOES improve, I'm in the front row of the lynch mob.....

I have three comments about that clip:

First, great quality for an internet video clip

Second, LLoyde did what a lot of not so talented WRs do, he jumped instead of running through the catch. He might have still needed to jump but the ball was well thrown, Lloyde just needed to take one more step and Frank would have been saying, "touchdown, Washington!" (oh, wait, Frank isn't on the radio show anymore!)

So he didn't give up on the play he just didn't catch a catchable ball. No big deal it's just an INT instead of a TD!

Third, he chased the DB untill he relized he might get hit by Miami's #26 and then didn't want any part of it.

Wow. Thank you so much for posting that sequence.

I don't remember thinking when I was watching the game that Lloyd had dogged it, but after reading all the comments afterward I was starting to accept that he had.

A pretty good demonstration of how mob mentality works, if you ask me.

wow, that was a great breakdown of what happened in that play. He looked like he did everything in his power to defend and react to that play.

I'm not here to crush BL.

From the highlight it looks like he gave his all in trying to catch the ball.

It does look like he kinda gave up about 1-2 seconds after getting up to chase the DB. This is not cool. Even the dude ready to block him (#26) felt he gave up the chase as he turned his back to BL after squaring up to block him.

However, if you were at the game, you may have seen it differently.

I was at the game. Everyone I spoke with about it at the game said the same thing: "He gave up on the route."

You can't tell this from the highlight since the camera is on Campbell and the O-line during most of the route. Only until the ball is thrown does BL come into frame and even then it is blurry as it first gets on him.

I don't know for sure, but again, it appeared to me watching live that he gave up on the route, THEN once he realized the ball was thrown his way he tried to get back in on it. At that point the DB had position on him. I agree he made a valiant effort to try and catch it and even sacrificed his body landing hard on the turf. Props go out to him here.

I guess my issue is in watching it live in person, he seemed to give up on it at first which is the first issue, then did not seem to make much of an effort to prevent the pick. Lastly, he dogged it after the pick. Not to say he would have made the tackle but you never know and you HAVE TO TRY. Maybe he fights off a block and strips the ball out of the DB's hands from behind. That kinda thing happens all the time. You have to hustle to make those kind of things happen.

When I played years ago we had a drill where everyone had to touch the running back before the play was over. I was playing Right DT. The play went left. I would never have been able to catch the guy in a game and was exhausted from 2 weeks of 2-a-days in the sweltering DC heat and humidity so I dogged it and did not chase him.

My coach yelled "What the (you know what) are you doing!!!?", kicked me in my posterior (literally) and yelled at me to go get the RB. I don't think I ever ran so fast in my life (seriously, people were like WOW, you were really moving!) trust me, I never dogged it again. Oh - I was not getting paid to play by the way….

Well, I'm going along with the title of the thread. Go now Brandon, because the "best fans in the NFL" are just too good for you. You are not worthy.

Maybe the coaches are not happy with Lloyd's effort, and maybe that's why they brought in Caldwell. Then again, maybe their level of distrust of Lloyd is illustrated by the fact that he gets out on to the field on gameday (excluding the last game of 2006/2007).

Unfortunately, big contracts breed instant expectations, and the patience level for players to deliver is pitifully low. People are only looking at so-called lack of effort because Lloyd just hasn't caught many balls for the team. I don't see people analysing why that might be, just a lazy assertion that he lacks effort, because that fits with the prejudgements already made.

Are you serious? If you -WATCH- the play in the video, you will see that Jason threw the ball to a location where the -defender- had better POSITION. If the ball had been thrown a yard short or towards the right of Lloyd, we would be praising both of them today.

It's absolutely shameful that a thread dedicated to hating on a Redskins player is receiving more attention than any of the other threads.

In addition, I'm sure that hating on Brandon Lloyd will fix every issue the Redskins need to address. He's the sole reason the team went 5-11 last season.

Oh - and this is may all be moot anyway in a week or 2.

I'd have to look at which WR's play on special teams, (I know Thrash does), but, assuming 1 or 2 other WR's are starting on Special Teams, as soon as Caldwell is up to speed BL might find himself inactive for most games.

Considering the guy you fervently backed shares a large chunk of the responsibility for the dismal showing by the receivers last year, that post is pretty hypocritical. I suppose if he wrote a sermon about it that would excuse him.
