Does Sarts have what it takes?

My flight to DC was delayed last night, and eventually cancelled, so I had to watch the game on television.

One thing that I noticed, is that Dallas Sarts just doesn't have the size of a NFL Linebacker. I'd like to see him make the team, but is there any way he would make an impact in the NFL? Put him up against some of the other linebackers in the league and he looks painfully small, very thin, and not very muscular. I doubt he can make the team, but I'd love to see him make it.

due to the fact he was a 2 year starter at USC helps, but he looks destined for the practice squad due to our depth, lf we cant get the size and weight on him a possible conversion to SS may be in order. l hate to see us cut him outright and waste another draft pick

Sartz was undersized at USC as well but always seems to make a play on the ball. Solid tackler with very good hands as was evident last night vs. B-more. I think he's destined for the practice squad.

No one can be signed to the practice squad until after the final round of cuts next week. That being said, when we do have a practice squad, you'll be able to see who's on it here.

If your knock on Sartz is that he's undersized then why not cut Blades and Fletcher as well. Size isn't everything. He's been in on some big plays in Preseason. I won't say that the guy is going to make the team, but if he does or doesn't it won't be because of his size.

Mass is more important at the LB position than height. Dallas had the same issue at USC although it wasn't as noticable. He's 6'4 so he can add weight.

Comparing Sartz's preseason to Blades is ridiculous. Sartz has made 1 or 2 good plays. Blades is all over the place.

Sartz has good vision...good hands...but he'll spend a year on the practice squad...gain some weight...and make a run for it next season.

P.S. I'm always pulling for the small guys....I wanted to keep Zack Keasey last year!

i was rooting for zack keasey just cuz he had some cool hair.. but yeah you cant judge a guy just cuz of how small he is. there are plenty of small LBs who are amazingly talented and make big plays every game. so even if he doesnt make the team. it wont be because of his size

I would not be surprised if he is cut altogether. He has not shown himself to be any better than guys like Kevin Simon or Robert McCune. HB is already our backup MLB..thats pretty big for a rookie. I think he makes the squad for sure...Godfrey signed for a little over the vet minimum so I would guess he makes it as well. That makes is difficult on his end...

Don't players have to clear waivers in order to be placed on the practice sqaud? A Trucks has an awesome name, but he reminds me of Chris Clemons who apparently was not good enough for us either.

If he is put on the practice squad, he will get snatched up in a second by someone. Would we take any sort of cap hit for him? I just dont see us picking up this guy and letting him get away. GW will start talking him up and I wouldn't be surprised if he isnt on the 52 man roster.

Why in the world should we cut him? He has a nose for the ball. If he has a knack for being around the ball that is a trait you cannot teach. You either have it or you dont. I say we at least have him third on the depth chart and just groom him. It is not hard to gain weight for he already has the height.

Not comparing the two. Blades might have been the sleeper pick of the entire draft. Just saying that you can't rule Sartz out based on size alone.

He'd cost 446K in dead cap this year and $138K next year.

The cost is the same if he's signed to the PS.
It's ten LB on the roster right now hie's in the bottom 3rd :cry:

Its just really too bad that they have him out there because he's a good young talent. Nothing against Kherry Campbell but if I remember correctly, he's spent a bit of time in the training room.

Campbell has also led the team in Special Teams tackles the last few years.

K Campbell is the same as Rock. ST standout and good work ethic. He'll be here as long as Gibbs is I think.

I think they thought Brian Urlacher was small for a MLB too. He was a safety in college. He bulked up quick and has done pretty well.

Any new talent like Dallas Sartz should be brought along slowly before we pull the plug. He has potential and players can always put on 10-20 pounds. I feel the same way about Reed Doughty. He will be good in time. If he doesn't stick with us, he will play well for someone else. He has football smarts/instincts that you can't teach.

Do you remember Kurt Gouveia? He was on the same bubble but talk about instinctual players. He was one of the best in that department. I saw a show where Marshall Faulk stated that Gouveia hit him harder than anyone ever did during his career while Gouveia was on SD. KG too was criticized for his size.

Funny that you mention Gouveia, l did the plumbing in his house in Ashburn about 15 years ago, funny thing was his agent was bigger than him( some big Samoan guy if anyone knows his name) but right up there with Monte Coleman and Oklewicz as far as our old LB's go lMO

Gouveia was one of the first of the new breed of middle linebackers. He could play the pass or run, he had speed and agility rather than sheer size. One of my favorite skins of all-time. I was sad he didn't catch on with Gregg Williams when he said he wanted to a couple years back.

Too late, it was a wasted draft pick from the start. How you can not pick in the previous like three rounds and take Dalas Sartz coming off that layover is beyond me. there were 5 or 6 potential second rounders that had slipped to that spot.

The one's that kept slipping
