The Redskins have signed eight rookies to the active roster, the team announced on Tuesday.
The new players are all rookies who participated in the three-day Rookie Camp on May 4-6:

Byron Westrbook, DB
Brandon Register, DB
Alex Buzbee, DE
Brian Bell, TE
Kevin Jones, LB
Pete Schmitt, FB
Carl Berman, WR
Cornelius Rogers, OL
To make room for the newcomers, the team released six players: tight end Zach Hilton, wide receivers Adrian Madise and Deyon Williams, defensive tackle Vaka Manupuna and defensive backs Daniel Francis and Jerrell Pippins.

Westbrook, 5-10 and 194 pounds, is a native of the Washington, D.C., area and played his high school football at DeMatha before attending Division III Salisbury University in Maryland. He totaled 18 career interceptions at Salisbury.

Westbrook, the brother of Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook, was a three-year All-ACFC first-team player at defensive back. He also returned punts and kickoffs.

Bell, 6-2 and 238 pounds, also has local connections, having attended DeMatha before moving on to play at Kent State. In his career with the Golden Flashes, Bell played in 32 games and caught 60 passes for 654 yards and five touchdowns.

Buzbee, 6-3 and 246 pounds, played his college ball at Georgetown, where he earned All-Patriot League honors for the third-straight season in 2006, taking a spot on the first team after two straight seasons in which he earned second-team honors.

Last year, Buzbee finished tied for second on the team with a career-high 75 tackles, as well as a Patriot League leading 13 tackles for loss and second-best conference total of 5.5 sacks. His 27.5 career sacks are third all-time in Georgetown history.

Jones, 6-1 and 230 pounds, set nearly every major tackling record at Saint Augustine's College since the school reinstated its football program in 2002.

Jones was named CIAA defensive player of the year and made the All-CIAA first team in 2006 after totaling 120 tackles, the highest total during the regular season in NCAA Division II.

Schmitt, 6-1 and 248 pounds, played his college football at Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he hauled in 47 passes for 487 yards and nine touchdowns during his senior campaign.

Berman, 5-9 and 166 pounds, attended Indiana State where he caught 136 passes for 1,666 yards and 11 touchdowns during his collegiate career.

Last season, Berman pulled in a career-high 59 passes for 783 yards and five touchdowns. He also returned kickoffs for the Sycamores.

Rogers, 6-2 and 315 pounds, played his college football at UAB where he was a three-year starter at left tackle for the Blazers.

Register, 5-10 and 195 pounds, also played at UAB and played in 10 games with seven starts during his senior season. He recorded 31 total tackles, including two tackles for loss and one sack. For his career he played in 42 games with 19 starts.

As I said in a past post, I am really expecting Byron Westbrook to surprise everyone and make the team and push out Springs (whom I hope we can trade for a pick). This Jones guy sounds promising too.

No one expected his older brother Brian to be much more than a backup RB or KR for the Eagles and I live in Eagle territory. Brian is now arguably the Eagles biggest asset right now. Good bloodlines. I hope Byron has the same qualities. He sure is quick like his brother and Brian admits his younger brother is faster. The Skins really need to find a diamond in the rough. It's been a long time since a UFA has made an impact.

Redskins released TE Zach Hilton, S Jerrell Pippens, WR Adrian Madise, DB Daniel Francis, WR Deyon Williams, and DT Vaka Manupuna.

Hilton may be running out of chances in the NFL; he and Madise were signed just last week. Francis and Williams were both undrafted rookies.

I thought he was a good addition, I guess he didn't pick-up the offense quick enough, or may be Gibbs has confidence in the 7th Rounder.

Hmm... both of the UAB boys are New Years Day babies. Go figure.

As far as Zach Hilton goes, I was disappointed with this release. He could have been a servicable backup.

I heard GW on 980 sports saying that he really liked Alex Buzbee, DE . And he might be a surprise.

haha VERY true.

The Schmitt kid grew up a Skins fan. Jones and Buzzbee both sound interesting.
