Sean Taylor & Springs
Does anyone else think its a problem when the entire team participates in a camp including the injured and two perfectly healthy players remain absent. I know they are two of our best players but it shouldn't matter the fact is they are sending a message to everyone else "we're too good for that" in my opinion that should be how you get your butt traded. Just my opinion...you can cut Springs for all I care, and Taylor ... if it wasn't for Gibbs and the Skins his butt could be sitting in a jail cell this year... how's that for gratitude...contract extension?!? how about your under contract so get your butt to work...anyone else think it's ridiculous? Gibbs says it's dissapointing, I'd say disrespectfull...to the team, to the fans, and to the organization.

Oh and after we cut Springs...give his $$$ to Santanna Moss.
That guy knows what it's all about and you can tell he wants to win, just listening to the way he talks about the team and it's progress I get the sense he is really in tune and really cares about where this team goes. I don't think we can say that about Springs. And Taylor we all know we've been dealing with this since we drafted him...he's special and because of that "he thinks he's special" I guess Gibbs will handle it but that my point was that is not the way to get your contract extension esp. coming off the year we had.

Gibbs had a few interesting tidbits in his presser today on Redskins.com. He said they [the coaches and Snyder] met with Sean at the owners meetings in Phoenix a short while ago and everything seemed fine. I think he also said he spoke with Drew and Drew knew of no problems.
I agree that it's a little disappointing not to have him there. I'm sure we'll get an explanation from Taylor sooner or later. Santana also said he Saw Sean and worked out with him in Miami and also knew of no problems. So, we'll see.
Even though it does make me a little nervous, I still think he shows up and does fine. This will be a non-issue two months from now. . .
. . . I hope.

Gibbs4Life, I feel your pain. I'd like to push the eject button on Springs but it won't free up cap room, so I don't care either way. Taylor is a different story.
Yes, very disappointing that Taylor is holding out to redo his contract. He's a heck of a talent but has been a pain in the arse since Day #1. If not too unreasonable, I'd pay him for maybe a three year extension. We need this guy. You never get value in a trade for a disgruntled player. Also, remember that Santana Moss did the same thing with Rosenhaus when he was traded; he asked to upgrade his contract. Paid off.
400-600 posts on this site? Lots of time on your hands or you're pretty knowledgable. Whatever the case, I've been a fan of the team and avid follower since 1974 when Kenny Houston was the starting hotshot safety. I think your tenure as a fan holds more water that logging posts on this site. I do admire your enthusiasm though and like your handle.

Gibbs also said they plan to move ahead with Springs playing this year and with his full compensation. But he didn't know why Shawn wasn't there.
He's getting cut, bet on it. First of all, we tried to get him to take a pay cut, he refused which is his perogative, then we tried to trade him ...surprise no takers... third of all many have said the "un-named player" whining in the locker room last year was not AA but SS and I tend to agree because Arch was pretty much obvious and just said "I'll wait till after the season" meanwhile Springs seemed arrogant in his presser's he even referred to himself as a steak he goes "I guess if you want a steak you pay for a steak" well if Springs is a steak its round steak and definately no filet mignon or even Ribeye...The colts embarrassed and exposed Springs for being too old & slow last year as did many of the teams that we faced in the few games he actually played.
Listen: right now we have 1. Smoot, 2. Rogers, 3.Macklin 3 legit Pro's
& 4. John Eubanks from Southern Miss
5. Daniel Francis from Louisiana State
6. ADE "Oh No, wait yes" JIMOH
7. Torrence out of Stanford
7 DB's , 3 legit Pro's , AND THEY'RE ALL AT REDSKINS PARK RIGHT NOW
Oh wait don't we have Pierson and Stoudmire? that's 9 DB's! Cya Shawn! Thanks for the memories, preciate that one good game against dallas!
Hey it's not like the old days where we start a little early and if players miss it's cool cause alot of teams haven't started, no, EVERY OTHER team in the NFL is practicing and seriously gaining competitive edges over anyone not working as hard! Guys before you tell me to try decaf, what was our record last year? 5-10, did you hear me 5 and motherlovin 10, they don't even mention us when covering our division, we are irrelevant at this point, the only chance we have this year is through the confidence and hope as well as skill that is being created right now. I'm sorry if your teamates are out here sweating in May and your off doing whatever, you don't deserve the Redskins plain and simple. I'm for no tolerance, Springs is out, and Taylor yes he's our best defender I know, but I'll take a first rounder and Demeco Ryans, send Taylor's wrap sheet to texas see how he likes that situation, or how about a first rounder and John Henderson from the Jags, I'll do that deal, at least Hend would be here and ST could stay in FL where he wants to. Of course that'd be too nice, send him to Arizona for a first and Fitzgerald, how about Buffalo for its first plus Dock and Royal! somewhere crappy like that.

I am not going to get upset over something like them not being at the OTA's. Every year about this time, the media starts their circus of innuendos, speculations and sometimes out right lies about this player or that player.
Other teams are having OTA's and have players that are missing also. The Redskins are not unique becasue Springs and Taylor are not there. Every other team in the league does not have 100% attendance.
Let it go until the season opens. Chill-out!!!!!!!

I, for one, don't like the fact that Springs and Taylor are absent. Sure, the sessions are voluntary...but everyone else is participating! Springs and Taylor are out there holding themselves above the team...distinguishing themselves from the team.
This is a team sport, people. Although voluntary, I would much prefer the ENTIRE TEAM participating in the OTAs.
That's what builds "team".....that's what builds "chemistry".
It's hard to do that if a couple of guys refuse to participate.

im with the "stop worrying people"; you'll never be able to get 50-60 adults to agree on the same thing, especially when some are pro bowlers, and others will be in grocery stores come fall. its far too idealistic. Everyone on the team knows sean t. and what he's all about, he'll show up when it matters. There are PLENTY of other teams who have had/will have this issue, and they aren't hitting the panic button. Do you think Sean Taylor being the rider he is cares about being "looked down on?", yeah right, right now he cares about kickin it in MIA; and besides, players from the U always seem to be prepared when the time comes. and for Shawn S., where the hell is he!!!
On the eighth day God created Sean Taylor- and he was good.

I wouldn't say I'm worried, or worrying, I think Springs is on his way out and that doesn't bother me, Taylor hopefully will make training camp but he's not just mia because he wants to "kick it in miami" he is pouting about his contract specifically having no extension: and in my opinion if we we're going to give him one before this season, we should hold off because you see guys its something called "principal" and if you don't treat everyone the same and if you don't go by "principal" then you sabatoge your own credibility and authority. The team should have consequences for players holding theirselves above the team. Team guys don't do what these two are doing, they haven't had to do anything for what 6 months? Give me the guy with less talent who's hungry over the more talented without hunger anyday of the week. This doesn't worry me, and it doesn't worry Gibbs. It dissapoints Gibbs and it T's me off because these guys are suppossed to be "leaders".
I'm wondering where Jake falls in all this? My money is on stop-worrying

I'm worried about Taylor possibly leaving in a couple years but Springs said he's going to be back soon. I believe him.

If they cut Shawn today he would actually cost the team cap space. His current cap hit is $7.35M if we let him got the dead cap would be $7.45M

I guess I'm one of the few defenders of Sean on this one. First, it's not a holdout if it's voluntary, second: Gibbs said he spoke with Drew and has no knowledge of any issues. Third: Taylor had a pretty good contract for a rookie, he's missed almost no games, has been a top performer and has been to Honolulu twice so he's hit most of his escalators (ever wonder why he had no complaints about AA signing a 6 year $30M deal). Finally no one has heard a peep from Sean

Didn't Springs say something about not wanting to interupt his current training/rehab program?

As far as I am concerned. These two are two of the better players on the secondary or on the team for that matter. Taylor always works out at Miami as most all the MIami alumni do. Springs is doing his rehab on his own.
I am not worried at all. As long as they are able to go come season.

Gibbs said he had spoken to Springs extensively during the offseason -- including a sit-down during the NFL meetings in Phoenix in March -- and that the team had decided to keep the cornerback under the current contract.
"Up to two weeks ago, we thought we were in real good shape," Gibbs said. "The coaches were talking to him, but then all of a sudden we lost contact."
Neither player's agent responded to requests for comment. Springs, who has been working out in Arizona, told The Washington Post that he will join the workouts in June.
"I'll be there," Springs said. "All I'm doing is getting myself in the best possible shape for the season. I'm a professional football player and being a professional, I'm doing everything I have to do in order to be ready. That's it. I'll definitely be there."
http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/vi ... p?t=205343
If Springs does intend to show up, maybe he is getting himself prepared to be in the best possible shape for this year. I'm sure he knows that even if he plays in Washington this year, he most likely will not be here next year. So maybe he'll want to give an audition, so to speak, to the rest of the league in hopes that he can sign a good contract elsewhere after this year. So this might be a good thing, in that he may show up and play his butt off.
Everyone keeps talking about how Sean is unhappy with his contract, yet we've heard nothing from Sean, and Drew told Gibbs he knew nothing of a contract problem with Taylor. So I guess it's just speculation fueled by the media. We'll see.
The way I see it is that springs is a great corner he is older and he is prone to injury maybe he should be working on a different schedule somewhere else for right now. I also think his injury is the main reason for this and it is pretty justified. as far as Taylor goes I don't know if he will stick around for anymore than 3 or 4 more years but I am not about to say lets give up one of our best defensive players voluntarily, especially if he goes to a division rival I don’t want to ever see him as an opponent we play twice a year.
on to the superbowl
I think Springs understands this is a big year for him. After all the trade talks and the request to redo his contract. I think he knows he needs a good season. If don't he knows he will most likely be cut, with no trade. If he has a great season, he might can get a trade and money. I think he is training really hard thats why he hasn't showed up yet. He wants to be stronger and faster than anyone remembers.
And Tayler, he has never been real outspoken. I think thats why, he hits so hard, he saves it for the field. He too I believe is training hard, and will show up ready to go.
If I remember correctly didn't we have 100% last year, and you see what happend during the season.
