Team Chemistry

The other night I was watching my DVR recording of the Redskins-Cowboys game that was on NFL Replay on the NFL Channel. The one where Troy Vincent blocked the FG and Sean Taylor returned it to set us up for the game winning FG. (Yes, I will never delete that game!)

During the game, the announcer was commenting that the Redskins have talent on their team but one thing is lacking - TEAM CHEMISTRY. They went on to say that there is no chemistry between players, and between players and coaches.

I agree that team chemistry is very important for a team to be successful. My question is this - How do you think the Redskins team chemistry will be this year?

As for me, I think it will be better because the Skins did re-sign a lot of their own and they even brought back Smoot - who, I think, will help with team Chemistry.

What do you all think? Will this team finally have "chemistry" or not?

Not turning over 20% of your roster helps a lot. And acquiring a natural born leader (LFB) on defense will help as well.

I think it'll be better next year, by far.

In more than any other sport (maybe soccer), chemistry is key in football. You have to know what everyone else is doing, and trust that they'll be doing what they're supposed to be doing. Chemistry is key in that.

I dont think CHEMESTRY, is overated, I think it helps a team go through tough times better. The reason being is because what team chemistry brings is the trust, players need to trust that eveybody else is doing their jobs ands also it brings that family feeling that if one team player is down, everybody else will step up for him. I think this year the team will have more chemistry and also, more hunger, just like in '05. I think they are hungry for victory and to make some noise in the playoffs.

Well I don't belive there was a question of Chemestry last year. The team went through a very tough year and seemed to support each other and many constaintly mentioned that they were very happy to be playing for a team like the Redskins.Also they stood behind MB and JC.What was lacking in my opinion was getting down a new playbook and major problems on D, do to injury or what who knows be they stood together and really had some close games.Hell I was a dolphin fan when I was little becuse my dad is and in 91 I saw the Skins and Chemestrywas a big part of me becoming a Redskins Fan.We win together, We lose together. People down here in miami wished they had fans like Washington.

I think team attitude and focus is far more important than the guys liking each other or being good buddies. Liking the coach is far more important and there are always small groups of guys who hang out together on a team and complete loners. If by chemistry, you mean being familiar with each on the football field, know each other tendencies and know how to cooperate, that's a given for any "team" to succeed. They have to be in sync. For pros, any pros, this should happen in camp.

Ultimately in any organization/group, a football team, a marketing team, a construction crew, or a software development team, it starts with the talent that's present and how coaches/managers employ it and nurture it. Players need talent, guidance, solid game plans, and maybe more than anything, motivation. I think the best teams in history were mostly self-motivated, guys who just wanted to win for the sake of winning, rather than worrying solely about their contracts or even their own health.

We need to stay away from guys like Lance Briggs who just want the huge pay days and do not appreciate that they are on a team that could be something special. We need to stay away from the Keyshawn Johnsons who give up on plays or pout on the sideline because he didn't get the ball. We need to stay away from the Brady Quinns in the draft who believe the hype swirling around and are way too enamored with themselves before they've taken one NFL snap.

It takes all kinds of flavors to make a good soup. Guys who work super hard and have fun are the best to have around for team chemistry. I think Clinton Portis, Chris ey, Fred Smoot are like that. Real intense quiet guys are good and guys who are complete maniacs and are frankly scary need to be there too (Sean Taylor fits this bill but we could use one or two more crazed dogs).

I'm not sure the Skins don't have pretty good chemistry already. I think they need motivation to get more intense and a reasonable amount of stability in their ranks. I think the organization is going in that direction.

Chemistry wins. How many all-pros on all those Gibbs teams?

Does this team have chemistry? We'll see. I hope so, and it's good that they haven't uprooted the roster.
