HOUSTON (March 23, 2007) -- The Houston Texans waived quarterback David Carr, the first draft pick in franchise history five years ago, and running back Domanick Williams.
The Texans never have had a winning record, and Carr often was the scapegoat. He completed 60 percent of his passes, but also threw 65 interceptions and was sacked 249 times in five seasons.
Houston hoped Carr would flourish under new coach Gary Kubiak last season, but the Texans went 6-10.
Williams, formerly Domanick Davis, is Houston's career rushing leader with 3,195 yards. He spent all of last season on injured reserve with a knee injury.
I think David Carr is a solid QB who was just put into a horrible situation in Houston with the running game/OL. Houston is probably lying to themselves if they think matt schaub, although many are high on him is the answer to their problems. Carr was a pretty athletic QB running the 40 in 4.67 range and he got sacked more than potatoes are in Idaho, and unless they fix the OL matt schaub, who i don't think is nearly as athletic as Carr might get killed. I believe Carr is going to find a team that suits him better and turn out to be a pretty good QB
I think the house cleaning was due. I used to think Kubiak knew what he was doing, and believe ultimately he made these decisions. Being a Texan/Carr fan and watching them struggle over the years (other than against us last year - yea, I was there...it was sweet)....I wish Carr the best, but feel like it was time for a change. Carr reminded me a little of Ramsey with his pocket presense and tendency to hold unto the ball too long. Granted, he was never been surrounded by loads of talent....but when you're in a losing funk ('existance of funk' in the Texan's case), change is in order. I'm not as convinced as you are that Carr will succeed elsewhere. Time will tell.
Now the choice of Schaub - I don't know enough about his talent to make a comment, but the specifics of his deal were just plain assanine...they just paid Carr $8M last March to extend his deal 3 years...and I won't even go into what the Texans gave up to get Schaub. Kubiak better hope he evaluated Schaub correctly and the guy is as good as the press hyped him to be....or Kubiak's ass is going to be in a crack in the big H.
It appears to me that the Texans choose a healthier Ron Dayne to share the backfield with Ahman Green over Domanick (Davis) Williams....who is scheduled for another surgury on a troublesome knee.
The AFC South is tough and will be for some time to come with the only ? being the Jags. Things don't look promising for Kubiak's tenure in Houston or his successor for that matter.
God bless our troops and Joe Gibbs.
We'll miss you, Joe.
Cutting Carr is just dumb! Dominak Davis I can understand because of his knee injury........Even though I don't agree with it.......But Cutting Carr!?!?!?!? Trade him!!! If Archuleta can be traded for a sixth round pick I guarantee Carr can be traded for at least a 5th round pick!
The Texan front office is probably the stupidest front office in football. First the Texans pass on Reggie Bush then they trade away all of their top picks for a quarterback that has done a REALLY good job of holding the clip board throughout his career............As if that wasn't enough they sign that quarterback to a huge deal and then cut their own quarterback?
I really do feel sorry for all of them Texan Fans. I must say if I was a Texan Fan I'd go up to the grocery store and buy a paper bag to put over my face!!! Yes, I'd go now........they will probably be sold out once the season starts!

Everyone said the same thing about Hasselbeck when he was a backup in GB. Everyone thought Holmgren was nuts. Shaub is going to be a stud, but they do need to work on their o-line.
I would say that with the Texans cutting Davis, the fans are even more umm mad that they didn't draft Reggie Bush. No franchise running back or quarterback? They have a long way to go.

They've got Adam "PACMAN" Jones

What? I don't get the joke if it supposed to be one . Are you sure you posted to the right thread? We are talking about the Texans and D. Davis in this thread
Titans = Also starts with a "T", and even has 6 letters. However, hasn't called Houston home for a while.
Now, Adam "PACMAN" Jones may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I'll bet he can find his (soon to be former) locker in Tennessee (which, like "Texas", also starts with a "T").
