please no 2 or 3 year quick fixes
the more i read through post i see alot of you want to sign these aging veterans .. dont get me wrong i like you all for being skins fan but some of what im reading is ridiculous..
why would we sign a horn? or a strahan? just to get a couple years out of them.. weve been there done that .. do you not remember the 2000 season signing bruce and prime time at the end of their careers to get " a couple years out of em" all that did was set us back and overload our salary cap and if we go out and do it again its not gonna win us a championship and even it did itd be one ( which of course would be great) BUT then we would wait 20 years again.. I would much rather see us take an approach like the steelers, patriots, colts, eagles.. teams that dont go crazy in FA .. USE their draft picks and build around there franchise qbs (hopefully campbell is ours) . while they might not win the super bowl every year what they are is competive each year and they have to chance to each year.. we throw all ours eggs in a basket for 2 or 3 years then it takes us 5 years to try again for 2 years ..i for one am hoping out of this FA we sign a REAL GM

I agree with just about everything in this post.
I just think a lot of people want to hurry up and get good players in and fix the team quick so Gibbs can go out on top since no when knows when he'll leave or not.
But I do agree... there is no reason to sign a lot of these guys, and hopefully, they won't...

Gibbs wasn't here in 2000 but he didn't like what he saw after he left (part of his reason for coming back). The player you mentioned aren't even rumors Horn just got cut yesterday so he's on everyones updated list (last I checked we aren't hurting at WR). Strahan is a different story, it's rumored but why would the Gints trade him to a divisional rival? Who would be the face of the team? Eli?... not a good move for either team.

So if we sign no one you expect to compete by simply adding 4 rookies to last years roster with only one being selected on the first day.

haha definetly didnt quote that properly... what i was saying in regards to taking the approach of other teams with the draft picks and not going crazy with FA clearly doesnt mean this year .. we have already dug our grave by trading away picks so we obivously have to go out and sign a few players .. im talking from here on out not trading away picks and using the draft to build our roster .. we need to be trading FOR picks and obivously with each year you might have a need to be addressed in FA but you dont need to sign 40 players each year.. part of the reason we arent getting things done year in and year out is chemistry our team is like a revolving door.. people constantly in out we need to evaulate chemistry before letting certain players walk .. for instance the entire line has basically begged for Big Dock to be back and we sit on it and now stand to lose him just like smoot just like pierce just like clark.. we want true skins well true skins are made by drafting players.. players have more loyalty to the team that gave them their 1st chance rather than the team that bought them their bentley and its not just because Gibbs is here that we are going crazy in FA its Danny Boy

The Skins negotiated with all the players you named through out the season the year before they were to hit the market. They chose to test the market and left.
This argument is old and soon to be dead. Betts was re-signed during the season before he was to become a free agent (that was a flesh wound to your argument). Captain Kaos is going into his last year of his rookie deal, he's going to blow this argument out the water.

so what your saying is because we resigned betts? that everythings good with the team? the argument im trying to make is we need to relax on trading away draft picks and bringing in aging players for 2 or 3 years of service and resigning cooley doesnt prove anything.. thats great that we 'talked' with those players about bringing them back but we lowballed them.. we didnt give them the money they deserve and they all were core pieces to the team.. clark was a mentor to taylor and told him where he had to be on defense .. granted taylor made the pro bowl last year thanks to all his tackles but how many times was he out of position? my arguement is keep our own players and while we are slowly moving in that direction we still arent there yet..sign dock and ill have nothing to say

everydayAskinsday wrote:and what would i be searching? your trying to make an argument about nothing relevant to what im saying .. im very happy we resigned betts and will most likely bring back cooley your completely missing what im saying.. keeping searching for stuff though
I'm saying you're mixing what went before Gibbs and after Marty with what has been taking place since Gibbs has come back.
Gibbs didn't come back to the same league that he left so he had some learning to do. You say they are making the same mistakes. He didn't make the previous mistakes. The moves made his first year or so were part of the learning process.
Not only is your aurgument pointless but it's been beaten to death for the last year and a half and if you want any more input on it look it it up.
And welcome to the site

Where in any of this do you separate Gibbs and the rest of the Front Office?
Smith was before his time but he drafted Taylor, First it was use the draft then it was use the draft next year because we don't have picks this year. Now it I wasn't talking about Gibbs
everydayAskinsday wrote:what im saying has nothing to do with gibbs its danny boy and vinny .. was happening before gibbs and will happen after him.. you keep tying what im saying to gibbs.. what i said had nothing to do with gibbs
I don't blame "the Danny" as much as I blame Vinny see. Had you been around when this subject was beat up you'd know that I feel the best think Marty did when he was here was fire Vinny C and things won't be right until someone does it again.
As far as what we have done since Gibbs has been back has been hit and miss but mostly hits with the people he has brought in, there's really only 1 or 2 that left that i had a problem with.
Again I point out the Skins have only signed Skins and we are 15 hours into free agency. For the first time in years we are not set the market value for the rest of the league, (watch how outrageous it signing bonuses become). The Skins will still get the blame, but the Skins look like they are doing it the right way this year.

im sorry but dockery was not worth 7 years 49 mil with a 16 mil signing bonus. what niksider was saying was that you think that we just let our own go and overpay for older replacements. we tried to negotiate with them and it worked with betts. dockery chose the bentley over the team that gave him his first chance. and we will resign cooley...
