Bengals place franchise tag on DE Smith

Defensive end Justin Smith, who has led Cincinnati's line in tackles in each of the last five seasons, was designated as the Bengals' franchise player Thursday.

This was a dumb move, Smith gets 6-7 sacks a year and now the Bengals have to pay him 7 or 8 mil for 07/08. He's not worth that kind of money, not even close.
Except for one thing -- he's one of 3 or 4 guys who DIDN'T get arrested on the Bengals last year..so hes one of their character guys.
He's an okay DE, no more.
