Reverse Psychology (The Gibbs Factor)

Post by BringBackGibbs »

OK, I have thought about this long and hard over the last week. Seeing first Brunell in the picture and the possibility of losing Ramsey in a trade or simply watching him waste on the sidelines. Then I read that Champ can look around for another place.

We are all feeling uneasy, I am sure, of the prospect of losing this guy to another team via a trade. I am sure we think that suddenly we are letting go of some stars who have been here for some time. Those guys are ones whom we depended on to say wow, we have great players even though we have a losing franchise.

Now, I would like to pose this question to you! What have we accomlished with these star players? Absofrickenlutely NOTIHNG. We have a mediocre record of 1 count it 1 ten win season and a playoff birth since Gibbs left the team.

So, what I am now seeing is that Gibbs is willing to take the chance and lose the big names and get rid of the egos of these so called super talented players in return for a better chance as having a better team!

Don't forget that the team that just won the superbowl has no big time names in the league. The coach was the big name. There were no egos on that field. Does the name BRUCE SMITH ring a bell?

We need this shake up at any cost it may be. If we are to get rid of our losing ways, we have to start with the coach who is willing to take the risks no matter what they are to create a team that is here to win and not whine. The point is, sometimes the sum of all parts is greater than the sum of those parts on an individual basis.

We need players who have the passion and determination to play for this team. A great example is Smoot who played hurt in order to try and stop the bleeding on D. We need guys like L. Coles who was the true warrior and one shining glimmer of hope.

Those who are mad about Ramsey have to ask the question, what if that foot takes time to recover? Who do we hand the job to? Hasselback? I don't think so.

Every offseason, I saw this team bring in big name players and big name coaches only to see failures. Most of the players on the roster where part of that failure. So, if Gibbs is doing his thing to shake things up and add pieces to the puzzle, I am all for it.

I am for once all for some Reverse Psychology! I am tired of those wishful offeason moves and ready for some worrisome ones in the hope that my worries become sweet success and possibly another ring!

Now I KNOW that Gibbs is back.

Gibbs declined to forecast his fortunes on the track or in the NFL this season. But he flatly rejected a suggestion that the Philadelphia Eagles were ripe for defeat, leaving the NFC East wide open.

"That quarterback [Donovan McNabb] is phenomenal," Gibbs said. "No team can get that sucker down! I've seen more people fall off that guy, and he is all over the place. They're very well coached. That's the first film I started looking at because you've got a problem with them."

Oh, man. Did he love to play that game "Weak Sister", and then wallop you on game day.
Welcome Home, Joe. What took you so long ?

Speculation is fun, but I think a lot of us here are most excited about sittin' back and watching Joe do his thing. I also agree; as much as I want to see some players stay with us, I'm confident Joe will put together a good team.

Nice analysis, BringBackGibbs. If there's one thing that's been shown over and over in the new NFL, you can win without stars when the team's the star. Don' think Gibbs hasn't looked at the way Belichik runs his program and wasn't taking notes. I'm sure Gibbs looks at Reid also and will borrow his best attributes and make them his own. Gibbs is the master of "borrow and perfect". And yes, TCWest10, Gibbs is the ultimate practicioner of the Art of War:

"18. All warfare is based on deception.

19. Hence, when able to attack, we must seem unable;
when using our forces, we must seem inactive; when we
are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away;
when far away, we must make him believe we are near.

20. Hold out baits to entice the enemy. Feign disorder,
and crush him.

21. If he is secure at all points, be prepared for him.
If he is in superior strength, evade him.

22. If your opponent is of choleric temper, seek to
irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant."

Absolutely right. I cannot remember a game in which Joe Gibbs said anything more positive than, "I don't know how we can possibly stop <fill in QB name>" and "We're not even in the same class as <name the respectable team>" or "<0-win underdog> is the team that scares me the most..."

I can't say "all is right with the world", but some things are a whole lot better!

Lordy - I love to hear him talking like this though - it's great to hear him concentrating on NFC East teams - how tiring was it to see us lose all the time to our divisional opponents even when we shouldn't have
