Dude, Bay is the perfect director for this, screw purity, the cartoon wasn't all that fantastic anyway, I grew up watching it, that was a look in need of an update. We're not talking about some classic work of fiction. I want to watch some cool looking robots fight one another and blow things up, that is right in Bay's (limited) wheel-house

Optimus Prime
That sums it up for me, too. I think that if they keep it simple it can satisfy even the purists. No need to work in needlessly complex contraptions or work so hard to make it epic that it falls flat on its face. There's a lot that you can do with 'cool looking robots [fighting] one another and [blowing] things up' -- no need to get fancy.
In creating a work, the KISS philosophy ('keep it simple, stupid') is IMO the best way to go.
Consider the X-Men movies: if they had just stuck with what they knew would work it would have been 10 times better. Instead, we get the "this is the end of the world" climax battle scene based on Jean Grey and Wolverine's love story.
I could go on about Star Wars, computer games, and so on. . .but I fear that I've said way, way too much already.

I am still a thirty year old kid, I just bought the 20 year annv. DVD of Transformers the Movie.
Seeing all of the "older" Autobots get terminated still gets you.
And I have seen what the new Megatron looks like and it looks more like he should be in a Robocop movie as a new Ed209 or better yet an updated Robocop 2.
Thank god they got Frank Welker (the original voice of Megatron) and Peter Cullen (The original voice of Optimus) to do the voices.

HAHA NICE!
May #21 never be worn again by another Redskin but may every Redskin play like they are wearing #21 on their backs.

I need to know what Gene Shallit thinks. Then I'll know what to think.
Tell me what to think, Gene. Tell me. What do I think? Huh? Huh? Huh???
Gene?

"This killer robot is really distracting!"
Anthony Anderson is wearing a Portis jersey in this movie so it's something else to look for.

You don't have to take up any space on this thread, but would someone be kind enough to PM me and tell me the story behind the transformers? I'm just curious.
Yes, I can always wait to watch the movie....but I'm impatient like that. I wanna know NOW!

Wikipedia will ruin the plot of just about any movie for you, should you want that.
