Vietnam War draft dodger shares his lessons about Vietnam....

"We'll succeed unless we quit" - Yea, Vietnam, we only lost 58,000 Americans and killed MILLIONS of Vietnamese before we quit there. Those were the days.
Besides, I thought our Mission was already Accomplished. There were no so-called WMDs (just as the UN was telling everyone). What ever happened to us not being "Nation Builders"?
"Laura and I were talking about how amazing it is that we're here in Vietnam," - Yea, amazing how friendly people can be when you aren't bombing the out of them (aside from the raping and torture). Who woulda thunk it?
"where the Iraqi people would not seem to be able to look after themselves and to enjoy the democracy they want" - Why don't these foreigners know what's good for them?! Guess what - The Vietnamese didn't want our democracy and neither do the Iraqis. Surprise!
See folks, this is precisely what John Kerry meant. This is the kind of embarrassment and damage you can cause your nation when you spend your adolescence and early adulthood snorting coke, attending AAA meetings, and getting born-again.

How can someone be so completely and totally clueless?
And how can that person become the President of the United States?
He’s got one thing right, Vietnam DOES offer lessons for what is happening in Iraq, but “we’ll succeed unless we quit”? That’s the lesson our idiot President has gained from this trip to Vietnam?
There’s a lesson alright, and that lesson is this…
Involving the USA in another nations internal struggle (Civil war, Sectarian Violence) in a far off land (Vietnam, Iraq) under the guise of fighting against some global struggle (Communism, Terrorism) is not only a fruitless endeavor that is none of the business of the United States, it cannot possibly succeed, as no one, neither the people in that country, the American people, the Generals, or the U.S. President know what it even means to “succeed” in such a war.
WWII really messed us up, here we are 60 years later still thinking modern conflicts are black and white, that there are good guys and bad guys, that there are the evil _______ (fill in the blank) who are like the Nazi’s or Imperial Japan .vs. the Good guy Americans with the white hats.
This overly simplistic reasoning is the lesson of Vietnam, yet Bush thinks the lesson is we need even more “stay the course”, even though no one is really sure what that course is, nor does anyone have a vision of where the course will lead us to.
It took 58,000 dead U.S. Soldiers, over a Million dead Vietnamese, and 15+ years of the U.S. “staying the course” for us to learn this lesson in Vietnam. Are we really going to do that all over again a mere 28 years after that lesson was supposedly learned? Are we really that stupid?
Stay tuned.

Bush has a wife who has a painted-on smile and look of sheer lunacy about her. She makes Hillary look like a ten.
Bush's hundreds of thousands in in cowboy boots was apparently insufficient to get him a decent date, probably because he's as stupid and stupid looking as a monkey.
Bush thinks that the lesson to be learned from Nam is to not cut and run.
Bush's kind of lunacy, pure lunacy, which shows in his ears. It's not the kind that occurs in nature, but has to be bred. A history of bad genes, incest within a core group, overdeloped sense of entitlement, plantation mentality, etc.
Sorry to have to tell you this, but it needs to be said.

Poll: Most Americans Now Say Iraq War Similar to Vietnam Conflict
By E&P Staff
Published: November 22, 2006 12:40 PM ET
NEW YORK Claims by critics of the war in Iraq that this conflict is similar in many ways to the U.S. experience in Vietnam have long been derided by pundits and administrations officials. But a new survey finds that almost 6 in 10 Americans believe that the analogy is accurate.
A poll by Opinion Research Corporation released by CNN finds that 58% of respondents believe the war in Iraq has turned into a situation like the United States faced in Vietnam, up six points since early October.
In another finding, a whopping 63% of Americans now say they oppose the war in Iraq, with only 33% favoring it.
President Bush this week, on a visit to Vietnam, said that the lesson of that war was that the U.S. needs to stay in Iraq and "win" this time.
The poll is based on telephone interviews with 1,025 American adults, conducted from Nov. 17 to Nov. 19, 2006. Margin of error is 3 per cent.

Enough about Vietnam!
I opposed the war in Vietnam. Ask me again, and I'll still tell you it was a massive blunder, killing many Vietnamese, and continuing to kill -- by unexploded bombs and bomb craters that made it impossible to farm...oh, and not to mention Agent Orange. If it was bad for our troops in Vietname, imagine what it has been like for all the people on whom it was dropped.
Still... it's time to stop tormenting Bush about his Vetnam service, or lack. That was then and this is now.
Iraq is a swamp, and it does no good to drag up Vietnam again and again.
