playoffs? PLAYOFFS!?!!??[/jim mora]

Post by die cowboys die »

i was shocked during MNF to learn that there are only 5 teams with winning records in the NFC. which even more shockingly means the 'skins are only 1 game out of the last wildcard spot. :shock: of course, given current tiebreakers, we'd probably need an extra win. here's a rundown though:

4-4 TEAMS:

MINNESOTA: already holds the head-to-head tiebreaker against the skins, so we'd have to win 1 more than them. they have the easiest schedule in NFL history, however. remaining opponents:
Green Bay
@Miami
Arizona
@Chicago
@Detroit
NY Jets
@Green Bay
St. Louis

They should be automatically disqualified from playoff consideration for having such a joke of a schedule, but instead will probably get a free, undeserved ticket to the wildcard spot. the only hope is- THEY LOST TO THE FRICKIN' 49ERS THIS WEEK!!!
__________________________________________________
ST. LOUIS: we have a chance to beat them and hold a head-to-head tiebreaker over them. remaining schedule:

@Seattle
@Carolina
San Francisco
Arizona
Chicago
@Oakland
Washington
@Minnesota

an extremely optimistic view: the redskins nation could be watching their final game against minnesota, hoping they're in a position to eliminate minnesota and tie our record, giving us the playoff berth from the head-to-head tiebreaker if we have beaten them the previous week.
________________________________________________________
PHILLY: we ought to hold our own destiny against philly, having two upcoming games against them. remaining schedule:

Washington
Tennessee
@Indianapolis
Carolina
@Washington
@NY Giants
@Dallas
Atlanta

the late 3-game road stretch against divisional opponents could be murder. 7 of their 8 remaining games should be really tough. they play 3 of the other teams vying for that wildcard spot, which will affect things interestingly.
__________________________________________________

DALLAS: having split head-to-head, a tie here would come down to divisonal record. they are 1-3, we're 1-2. if we get the division wins we'd need to stay alive anyway, that should keep us ahead with that tiebreaker. remaining schedule:

@Arizona
Indianapolis
Tampa Bay
@NY Giants
New Orleans
@Atlanta
Philadelphia
Detroit

they play 2 or 3 games against other wild-card contenders (philly, atlanta and/or new orleans if they slip out of the top in the south).
_______________________________________________
CAROLINA: we have the chance to hold a head-to-head tiebreaker with them in an upcoming game. remaining schedule:

Tampa Bay
St. Louis
@Washington
@Philadelphia
NY Giants
Pittsburgh
@Atlanta
@New Orleans

games vs. st. louis, philly, atlanta/new orleans will affect things.
_______________________________________________
SAN FRANCISCO and GREEN BAY are tied with us and currently above us due to tiebreakers, but i'll eat my hat if they get anywhere near the playoffs.

obviously the picture could change dramatically over the course of the 2nd half of the season, but that's who's ahead of us for that spot right now. do i think we'll make the playoffs? no. way too many problems. but life is crazy. last year was crazy. the win over the cowboys was crazy. so who knows.

i still think we need to play campbell. :D

Thanks for letting us all know what WE'RE hoping for. We (yourself excluded) will continue to pull for them and hope that the scenario you mentioned becomes reality.

Just out of curiosity, being a claimed Redskins fan, why do you post such hypotheticals when you actually look FORWARD to the Redskins losing, so the boo birds can come raining down at FedEx Field? I mean, the fact that you actively hope for the Redskins to lose a game, hope for our QB to get injured, say that Gibbs is out of his mind, says that anyone who breaks Brunells leg will be considered a martyr and a hero, call for a massive boo'ing campaign in order to demoralize the Redskins, look for them to lose a game as a result of boo'ing in order to satisfy your own wishes instead of the teams success, and yet you post a hypothetical that shows the Redskins can actually make the playoffs?

Is that not the height of hypocrisy?
Sit back and watch the Redskins.

Some fans say what's in there heart and it slips out before they run it by there brain. The rants never seem to amaze me. In the end a "W" is more than just a "W". A "W" allows these fans the time to think before they post. As you have pointed out they seem to be two different fans depending on the previous game.

Lets assume that MB plays the rest of the season and the Skins some how make the playoffs - IS THIS A GOOD THING? I have been asking myself the same thing. I have been thinking a trip to the playoffs is worth any long term set back for this team and the above situation would have serious long term effects. First Gibbs would want to bring the #8 car back for 07 and second we still would have no idea if Campbell can play.

I'm torn, because this team doesn't have the campionship parts, but isn't that far. A pass rusher, a corner that is capable of starting if Spring or Roggers are hurt, a true blocking TE, and most importantly a QB that can play at championship level. We don't know about Campbell, or even Collins (though I highly doubt it), but we absolutely know MB CAN'T GET IT DONE. Unless our D starts playing like they did two years ago.

The 49ers beat the viqueens and the fins beat da bears - I mean the possibilities are always there that we will still make the playoffs :up: If there is a power that can ruin dcd's day by orchestrating that scenario it would be such a great cap to our season.

However! No one can convince me that - even if we have a fantastic end of year run - even if Brunell is the MVP - Gibbs will not make Campbell his (and Saunders) starting QB next year. All Gibbs is doing this year IMO is getting Campbell ready for next year and that might still include starting him this year if he thinks the rest of the offense can handle Campbell as the starter.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Agreed. Who in their right mind would think that Brunell should be the starter next year? :?:

JC's waiting in the wings, and the extra time he's getting studying the offense will pay off big time when he's in the starting role next year...

Well when most people speak out of anger they tend to speak out of their a!!. I am no exception but I am sure DCD is probably a fan at heart and probably dosent mean the harsh things he has said before.

IMO - Right now, we need to be concerned about Philidelphia rather than a play-off spot.

so there's 3, 3-5 teams in the NFC... Us, Green Bay and SanFran, and we rank below the other two... that's pretty sad... if you told me that was going to be the company we keep after 8 games, I'd have cancelled my DIRECTTV package... we need to get on a serious roll right now...

A Skins win :D , along with wins by The Cards :cry: , TB :shock: ,Seattle and GB :oops: would create a log jam of 4-5 teams (7). And the Redskins would only be 2 games out of 1st.

Hope and optimism are good but do we go with #17 car if we lose in Philly?

Will we? Probably not. Should we? Absolutely.

Basically, allthough at 7 and 1 we could control our own destiny if the loss comes from the AFC side of the house
Well what more would you expect out of the "Worst Team" in the "Best Division"

I already wished I wouldn't have gotten it this year. Not because I don't want to see the Skins, but because I think there's only been one game that WASN'T televised here locally. What a crock! I think the locals should let everyone know what games they will be showing, so poor saps like me can save their dough. :)
