New Giants post Game Thread

Post by admin »

I know emotions are running high, so let's put all the thoughts on the game in this thread.

Let's keep it civil and if you can't bite your tongue and keep it PG, that's fine too, but please take it to Smack.

Remember to confine your pots to the post, and don't direct your frustrations at the poster.

Thanks guys, and opine away...

the decision to pass the ball on 3rd and 1 and then not go on 4th is one of the worst and mostl cowardly coaching decisions i have ever seen.

I know the Redskins are not as bad as they played today but I know for a FACT that they are inconsistant. They just aren't a top caliber team right now. The defense is no where near where it needs to be and the offense can't move the ball especially when our QB is off one week and on another.

With the defense playing like it has all year and the inability to stop pretty much anyone today (The giants converted their first 7 3rd downs in a row), I was extremely pissed at the playcalling on offense and the inability to cover anyone today.

i am disappointed but not surprised given we were playing in the meadowlands.....

we are a better team than we showed today. i guess now it would be better if dallas won today

i thought joe gibbs was a total coward today, and i'm appalled.

going for the FG on 4th and 1 late in the game?? the giants were GOING to score more, we HAD to get a TD, not even a choice.

then we punted TWICE after that.

these are calls to "minimize the margin of defeat" instead of trying to win. i'm just horrified that he threw in the towel and gave up on the game.

Totally agree. This whole game made me wonder if Gibbs had turned over the playcalling to Marty Schottenheimer or something. It really reminded me of Martyball - play not to lose, instead of playing to win. The Giants were what, the 3rd worse pass defense in the league, and we're not going deep until late in the second quarter?!?!

what's the evidence to support that? throw out the houston game, since anyone on this board could probably at least tie houston all by themselves-- we have played 3 horrible games and 1 good one on offense. we have played 4 horriffic games on defense.

Why do people keep blaming our crappy play on being in NY? Good teams rise up and play well away from home as well.

And what makes you think we're better than we showed today? Because we've looked so sharp in previous weeks? I said earlier, we played 2 good games and one was against a crappy team. We played great last week, but who's to say that that's how good we are either? I'm thinking LAST week was the abarition.

So I guess the decision is to NOT go back and watch the game from the beginning, right? Didn't get tuned in until there was 11:00 Minutes left. Same happened last year with the Raiders game. Maybe I should stop recroding the games to watch later.

If that's the case, then yes, stop recording. Watch it live and squirm like we all do....lol

PATHETIC is the best word for the play today.

I know people don't like to place the blame soley on Brunell but I feel so strongly that it is the QB and not anything else.

Imagine if we had a good QB we would be so much better on offense.

Watching from the beginning would have been my choice but had to go to another function and had to try to keep up in the Picture-In-A-Picrure ( the small one). Some NASCAR Goober got the remote first.

I don't think it's solely Brunell, but i would sure like to see him as our backup, rather than our starter.

You have to admit, he doesn't play defense. I'm not sure anyone does, for that matter.

Defensive unit is pathetic. Springs would not have made a difference.

Yea our defense has sucked but the Giants only scored 1 TD today...if only we could have scored ourselves.

One TD was all it took....thEY didn't even need ANY of their FG's.

I agree though, scoring would've been nice.

We only scored 3 points. I dont think the defense is worth discussing because we scored 3 points. We could have held them to 6 points and we would have lost.

It was a bad game... more importantly perhaps, it was a bad effort. Well maybe just a mediocre effort, but the Giants brought their 'A' game today, and they handed it to us accordingly.

It really doesn't mean anything more finite than last week's win did, or the week before's. This team is struggling badly on defense right now (obviously largely because of Springs) and Williams' total lack of aggression is surprising.

Kenny Wright contnues to look lost out there... and as long as the secondary keeps giving up such huge yards... it's tough on everyone.

We were dominated in the trenches today, and as has become apparent, we live and die by the line play on both sides of the ball.

The Giants d-line really showed up today, and the o-line struggled across the board. CP got stymied, Brunell never had much time... and the offense sputtered accordingly.

The defensive line couldn't get any penetration, and when Tiki wasn't pounding the ball, Manning had all day long to throw.

When the coverage in the secondary is as slack as it has been without Springs... they're going to get beat like today without any pressure.

Ultimately we lost an away game to a division rival... not exactly going to be a rare occurrence for all teams in the NFC East this year... but it's disappointing that we were just plain out-hustled and out-worked.

Somebody find Garnell Wilds will they? This secondary hasn't looked this bad in Williams' entire tenure. Obviously losing your #1 guy is going to be a blow, but the drop off in ability has been brutal. Definitely a major achilles heel that teams are going to continue to exploit until something is done about it. if there's nobody on the roster can do it now... bring someone in and give them a shot... because you just can't be any less effective than Wright has been - and obviously Rumph hasn't earned his way past him, so I presume it won't be him either.

Thank goodness there is a Format & Erase All funtion. Wish it would make all of the team's problems go away too.

It's hard to criticize the offense when the defense doesn't get any sacks, any turnovers and doesn't even force a punt until the 4th quarter! The D did do a good job of prenting touchdowns, but overall, the skins had no chance because the D could not stop the Giants at all.

So, why is our defense playing so poorly? It's hard for me to believe that Shawn Springs is the difference between a very good defense and a flat out horrible one. If he is so important, why didn't the skins try a little harder to get some quality depth at the cornerback postiion?
It's just a game.

And?? The Giants scored 5 times today. The waltzed down the field more than that and were forced to punt on those other occasions. Our defense simply didn't stop them enough to allow our offense to keep running the ball.

Add to that, the fact that our O-line wasn't blocking very well today. Brunell did ok today IMHO. I would not single him out with the top 3 reasons why we lost.

Oh, I agree, but just saying it wasn't SOLELY Brunell.

You know I am not exas.ctly a Brunell fan. The only time I was, he was wearing different colors. But we also know that he's here to stay until Brunell himself finally says it's time for him to sit.
