Randle El, LLoyd and Patten

Post by aswas71788 »

I would llike to revisit something from a previous post concerning Randle El. Someone asked if he was worth all of the money he received. After the 3rd game this year, I think he is. He does not have great stats but it is obvious that he will be a contributor to this offense. I am still out on LLoyd. Also. that was a fantastic catch by Patten. He seems to be more confortable in this offense than last year. While it may take some time, it appears to me that the receiving corps may actually live up to their billing.

Randle El is worth the money IMO. He can do so many things on offense and he is a great punt returner. Lloyd, on the other hand, is a bust so far. Obviously that can change as the season goes on but 3 catches in 3 games isn't very good.

I think this piece sums up ARE very nicely ... starting to see why the Steelers fans I know were lamenting his loss

Brandon Lloyd is far from being a bust. He has been thrown to 5 times and has three catches. The two non-catches were bad throws. He also got CP at least an extra 10 yards on the shovel pass, and would have gotten him the TD is CP had cut inside instead of out.

My 2 cents

Lloyd did not look bad yesterday. Given that Brunell's not gotten much anywhere near him (or anyone else) before yesterday, I see no reasonable way to call him a "bust so far."

Brunell was a bust for 2 games. Yesterday he did play well, but left reason to be concerned going into games again against good teams. The problem with accurate short passes is the Defenses can still keep most of the team on the line of scrimmage. Other than one pass to Patton which set him up for a big hit, Brunell has not shown a reason to spread a good defense.

I'm not knocking Brunell for yesterday's game. He was good. I'm just saying there is still reason to be very concerned about him against a good opponent.

ARE is the Man - I love to see his moves. He is a great addition and I am sure Lloyd will get some more balls in the future once the O starts opening up more.

It bugs me to see people turning on Lloyd already. I think we need more than three games to see what we've got there.

Far too early to judge anybody yet - I'm sure that the coaches are still finding ways to use all of the toys at their disposal.

I have a feeling (and it is nothing more than a gut feeling), that either Randle El or Lloyd will be a disappointment to us. Absolutely no logic to that feeling - maybe just the fact that striking it lucky with both of them would give us an insanely good receiving corps.

What I think is most important though, is not how they work out as individuals, but how the receivers compliment each other and work together. That's what will take the coaches a little while to work out - the best ways to use them all. If it works, it will be a lot of fun to watch. :)

If the offense line would give our QB, whoever it is, time to throw, IMO we have the best receiving corp in the league. Patton is still servicable which gives us four threats at the WR position. Our problem has been protecting the QB long enough to get these guys the ball.

I thought the same thing. I couldn't understand why he chose to go outside, when he had most of the field open to his left. He would have scored easily if he had made a bee-line towards the left pylon.

CP said he thought he had a defender on that side. He didn't realize it was Santana. He told Santana that next time to run in front of him and lead him into the end zone.

I agree with this post. I think Lloyd has been limited by circumstance, not ability. He's incredibly illusive and did indeed lead Portis to what could have easily been a TD. The catch by Patten absolutely stunned me, which gives me the notion he might have been a victim of circumstance last season rather than overrated. I hope so. Our WR's could be awesome and it looks like Brunell has remembered Colley is on the squad. Things are looking up.

One of Lloyd's non-catches was actually a nice grab on that fade-route that was cancelled by a 'roughing the passer call.' He came down with that ball on his helmet. Had the ball been better thrown (Mark doesn't strike me as a 'fade route' kinda guy), he just might have ended up winning that battle in the end zone.

I think we haven't seen Lloyd's potential yet, but I'm pretty sure that he'll get worked in more often very soon. My 2 cents

I forgot about that one. That was a good catch except for the out of bounds part.

Yea Mark threw it too far out of bounds. Too bad his 22nd completion couldn't have been a TD.

We have a very good WR corps, maybe as good as the Art Monk, Gary Clark, Ricky Sanders teams! Let's give credit to the managers for turning a team weakness into a strength.

At this moment Randle El has been worth nothing, but I know he is one beautifully timed Punt return for a touchdown away from being worth every penny.
