"Why Ramsey May Be Headed Out Of DC"

Post by Jake »

I'm glad Sportscenter doesn't really take Gibbs' word into consideration before they air their segements! ::biting sarcasm:: They had john clayton on there and he said in a taped segment that P-Ram may become so upset that Brunell will come here the his agent is already searching for trade options. And the trade options include the phins, stillers, and lightning bolts.

I saw the article "johnny good time" wrote (mentioning about the same thing) on ESPN.com and I am guessing (on instinct) that they had previously planned to air the segment before Gibbs said Ramsey will be back.

But the part that angers me the most is that they try to make everything they air so friggin extreme so that people think the rumor might be true!!!! Well they got me mad about that. Well, all that matters is that we know the truth and P-Ram will be back. With me, when I know something the media doesn't or if they report something that I know isn't true, I get mad.

Sorry folks, just had to vent about ESPN's ignorance from airing a segment and trying to overemphasize it before getting all the facts.

How are you so sure Ramsey will want to be back with Brunell in town? Is that your opinion or did you hear it from a reliable source that he'll be back?

Does it really matter if Ramsey wants to be in town? Gibbs has said he's not trading him, so I think Ramsey would just have to deal with it...

I'm not gonna lie to y'all, I'm scared!

I didn't grow up with Gibbs championships (too young) and I don't trust him like some of you.

I mean, if he's too old to remember to bring the right medicine, or take the right dosage, then is he really capable of running the team? I don't mean any disrespect, but he's been out of the game for 11 years...

Patrick Ramsey has serious potential. I don't understand this Brunell stuff.

I understand your anger Jake, but we'll have the last laugh. Gibbs has a plan in place, and it'll work. Gibbs met with P-Ram last week and told him about his plans for QB. Whether that means he'll start next season or not remains to be seen. But, rest assured, he'll be a Redskin for many more years.

Don't mean any disrespect? OK then.

So when you said he was old and forgetful and incapable of running the team you were respecting a man who led the Skins to 3 Super Bowls with 3 different QBs.

Whatever.
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

I agree with BH. What the hell was that all about? Too old? Too forgetfull? This is Joe Gibbs we're talking about. Joe Gibbs knows more about football 63 than most of us will know in our lifetimes. He merely missed a dose of medication, and was out of town. He went to the hospital as a precaution. I call that being smart!!!

Ramsey must be the QB for the upcomind seasons, we now have a coach who can protect the QB and with the arm stregth and toughness Ramsey has he will be a prowbowler in the upcoming years, let´s dont´t forget he threw 14 touchdowns in 11 games in his second season he easily could it finished with 25, Ramsey is the guy.

It's true, and with a better-coached o-line, and hopefully a better running game, Ramsey's numbers should increase at a higher rate under gibbs than it would if spurrier hadn't quit and run away (thank god he did).

Jeez guys, I'm not from the Joe Gibbs era, so I don't hold him in God like reguard... yet.

When there's talk about him trading our 25 year old QB away who many experts agree is the future of our franchise... I get worried. Especially when the replacement is rumored to be 33 year old southpaw quarterback Mark Brunell...

Even if Brunell was just a backup to bring Ramsey along he'd cost major $$$ and there are MUCH more pressing needs, like RB and D-line.

I was excited as any Skins fan when I heard that a Hall of Fame coach was coming back... but I think we can all agree that it would have been better if we could have found a young coach to make his mark on Redskins history. That is that Joe Gibbs had his time, and he was great... but what if we tried to get George Allen out of retirement instead of signing Joe Gibbs back in 1981?

Well, right off the bat I can assure you that we do NOT all agree. A young coach to put his mark on Redskins history? How bout an experienced coach that has already made his mark in NFL history coming back to return a troubled franchis back to respectability, if not another Super Bowl title. People all around the league, myself included, said that the only thing that could fix this franchise was Joe Jackson Gibbs. To think that anyone else could do a better job is, if you'll pardon the pun, HOGWASH!![/quote]

You're kind of avoiding the issue here.

What if we'd gotten George Allen out of retirement, or gotten another "experienced coach that had already made his mark" in 1981?

Joe Gibbs was a talented, young (40 yr old) offensive coordinator for the Chargers, and we signed him to take over the team. (Did he even have prior head coaching experience?)

And he turned out to be the best coach in Redskins, and perhaps even NFL history.

We have a very proud past... the Redskins were once one of the most dominant teams in history... but should we be trying to go back into the past to win again? Or should we be looking towards the future? Trying to find a new coach to start a dynasty here. Because, Joe is only gonna be here for 5 years as head coach... he can't make us a dynasty again, he can win us a Superbowl, maybe even two... but very, very soon we're gonna need a new, young entusiastic coach to work with. This is also a reason I'm uncomfortable with all the older assistants... I believe one should be being groomed to succede Gibbs... anyway, I don't mean to disrespect the man who' done so much for the Redskins, I think he can win... but like I said, he's only here fo 5 years.

Two young coaches already put their marks on Redskin history. Their names are Norv Turner and Steve Spurrier, and their marks suck. Out with the new, in with the old.

Patrick's brother is on another board and said he talked to Patrick last week. He said that Patrick tolf him he wants to retire a Redskin and really looks forward to working with Brunell.

And if you don't believe me about his brother (I don't blame you if you do but I know it's him), Gibbs also said that P-Ram looks forward to coming into camp competing w/ Mark.

By the way, I invited P-Rams brother over to this board.

Hey, I was only four months old when he won his second Super Bowl but I totally respect and admire who he is and what he has accomplished so far. I don't him in the regards of a God and I don't think anyone else here thinks he is or ever will be in that level either. Because he like us, is a mere mortal who has accomplished many feats that gained the respect of us. Oh man, I sounded just like a preacher.

Back to the subject, just because you aren't from his era doesn't mean you can recoginize all of his successes and what he means to Skins fans.

Sorry to pick on you in this thread, but it's just too easy.

Hey Guys go easy on 55 he makes a very valid point.

I think we will see the best of both worlds here, Gibbs was brought back to right the ship and return the Skins to the once storied franchise they were. I think you'll see him have a big say in the new "young coach" (as you call it) when he retires.

That's a valid point, but to suggest that we all would agree that bringing back Joe Gibbs is a bad idea is a tough pill to swallow. As Jake said, just because he doesn't come from Joe Gibbs' era, doesn't mean he can't recognize that this was the absolute only thing that could fix this franchise. Joe Gibbs' record and history speaks for itself, right up to today. I respect his opinion, but respectfully disagree. Might I suggest he pre order a copy of "The Complete History of Coach Joe Gibbs' Washington Redskins" on www.gutcheckbook.com and when he reads it, he'll understand why Joe Gibbs is the ONLY person who can fix this thing.

If it were anyone else or at some other point I might agree. But, the Redskins have been floundering for years now and have tried new coaches, old coaches, etc. and nothing has worked. Anyone other than someone like Gibbs or Parcells and I would have probably been skeptical about it working. Hopefully Gibbs can get things turned around, teach the franchise how to win again, get the ship righted (however you want to phrase it) and then we can find a younger coach to continue it after Gibbs retires again (with 5 superbowls added to his total -- not that I have high expectations or anything). ;)

I suggest you Bone-Up on your Redskin History before you make Bone Head remarks. If you were weined on Norv Turner and SS then I guess we can give you a break, but try to show a little respect - wippersnapper.:D

I would guess about 99% of "us" trust Joe, maybe you should too.

Trust Joe Gibbs to make the right choices

Post by welch »

Hello, all,

I "confess" that I'm old enough that I could say I'm ferom the Joe Kuharich (check spelling), Mike Nixon, Bill McPeak, Otto Graham, Vince Lombardi, Bill Austin, George Allen, Jack Pardee, as well as Joe Gibbs era.

Consodering it all carefully, thinking over those coaches, Joe Gibbs is the best ever. Lombardi was only here for a year before cancer got him, and old George was something special, but Joe Gibbs is beyond them all.

An old-timer's not-so-old story: in the winter of '91, Coach Gibbs had two young QB's. He told Stan Humphries, approximately: you are my quarterback. You have a strong arm, you're the better athlete, you have the release: now, go study the playbook. IT's your job to lose.

Humphries went home and got fat. He ignore the playbook.

Mark Rypien, a guy who always came through, and a guy that everyone always said was just filling in until the Redskins found a Real QB...well, Rypien studied the playbook inside out and upside down. He worked and worked. He showed up to camp in great shape, and knowing the offense better than anyone except maybe Joe Gibbs himself. Humphries came to camp and chased women.

That year, Humphries did not play a down. Not one.

Rypien led the Redskins to 14-2. They won the Superbowl, against the predictions of a ceertain Mr. Zimmerman from Sports Illustrated, and Rypien was MVP.

Joe Gibbs judges talent and character and brains. Patrick Ramsey seems to have those. If he does, really does, then Ramsey will make it.

For younger fans, be assured. There is not a thing to worry about. Gibbs takes players and makes them better. He always has. He quietly discards the real cranks, which is why I find it interesting that some current Redskin players are reported to have chosen not to contact him. It's their choice...in a way, they are helping Gibbs choose who to cut.

Best regards to all, and I wish mini-camp started tomorrow.

i was also not a member of that era, born in 87, i guess its me and alot of people like me have kinda grown up bein on the losing side and bein constantly criticized and annoyed by people sayin the franchise ive grown up loving "sucks" the phrase "redskins suck" has constantly been ingrained in my head, and i guess it kinda makes us more skeptical than people who grew up with gibbs, but seein those three trophies, i just saw instant recognition for him, already people are pretty angrily writing this off as just like our last couple of seasons "high expectations, low results" they all think a redskins fan is just somebody who thinks their teams the s. during the offseason and gets embarassed during the seasons... just had to voice my oppinion on the subject, plus the fact that im friends with many broncos, 49ers, and giants fants... and they all seem to think this is just like when we signed bruce smith... hopefully in our season opener theyll all meet mr gibbs and i can finally see what ive been hearing all along. 8)
