Yup, I'm going to the big city, NYC, this weekend, and, while looking for the of our beloved S.E. Jerome (presumed dead, but I think he's alive somewhere in the city), I plan on taking in some of the city sites and attractions with Mrs. TRO, as we kick-off our fourth honeymoon celebration.
Any suggestions on places to go, or things to see this weekend?
I'm looking to make it to the Pizzeria that Welch told me about the last time I was up there. It's a famous brick-oven joint in the city (I think it's called "John's Pizzeria" ) . other than that, I'm open to other suggestions.
Look into seeing a live talk show or something. They do a lot of tapings up there and I hear it's fun to attend. Also, check out the comedy clubs in times square, you'll always walk out with a smile on your faces and that's a win win.
Every time I am in NYC I go to a great Italian restaurant called Ballato's, 55 East Houston Street New York, NY 10012 very good food. The neat thing is there is a menu but I have never ordered off it, you just tell Emilio Vitolo, the owner, what you like and he comes up with something that is always awesome. It is reasonably priced at about $15 a entrée. It feels very Italian, that neighborhood Mafia feel. You will not regret this choice just make sure your hungry it is very filling.
Here is a review that I found:
Emilio Vitolo looks like he should be in a Scorsese film. A big burly guy, he doesn't seem like a restaurant owner until he starts talking about food. "I been cooking since I'm a nine years old," he says with a classic Italian/New York accent. His traditional Southern Italian menu attracts a dedicated regular crowd, which includes celebs like Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe, who usually dine in the private rear dining room. Ballato is the place to order classic dishes usually eschewed for trendier offerings -- pasta Bolognese (thick and ochre colored), chicken parmigiana, rack of lamb. "Have you tried the meatballs here?" asks Vitolo. "Fuhgetaboutit. They fall apart in your mouth." He's right: They practically dissolve, with lots of aroma and not a trace of bitterness. The rustic simplicity of the main room makes for a casual atmosphere that's easy to settle into for couples and families. It's the quintessential neighborhood place, with a warm decor, superb wine list, killer cannoli and Emilio's paternal hospitality.
You'll never find Jerome, rumor has it he is burried with famous never to be seen again mobster. So don't waste your time looking, just have a safe trip and enjoy yourself
