Lavar will play strong side LB in NY

EAST RUTHERFORD -- The shortest distance between Point A (LaVar Arrington) and Point Q (opposing quarterback) is a straight line. The shorter the line, the faster the two points can be connected.

To lessen the length of that line, the Giants will base the former Redskins linebacker on the strong side.

"[Defensive coordinator Tim] Lewis wants me closer to the ball," Arrington said Tuesday in the Giants Stadium locker room. "Closer to the ball means closer to the quarterback. And closer to the quarterback -- well, you know what that means.

"Who knows where I'll play? I've been labeled a 'freelancer,' so I can be anywhere" he added, mocking one of the criticisms the Washington coaching staff lodged against him. "There are a lot of things they [Giants coaches] are planning on, and whatever they do, that's where I'll be."

So the time for Lavar to get blocked out of a play will be ever quicker now? Sounds good to me.

I can't wait for CP to stone his behind like he did against Tampa.

Lavar will be a no show in both games against us this year.

Are you trying to convince the THN community of that? Or just yourself?

Personally... I'll have one eye on the football and one on L.A in both Giants games.

... and I'm sure Mark Brunell will too.

It's easy to throw him under the bus now that he's gone... but I personally remember what Lavar IS capable of, and while he may not live up to that vast potential ALL of the time, that doesn't mean that he can't wreak havoc when healthy AND motivated.

Sure, we might be able to take advantage of his aggression, we might be able to take advantage of his occasional lack of discipline in staying in lanes... but let's not forget that he could also decapitate somebody if he's not watched.

Will L.A's desire to shine against his former team help him, or hurt him? I guess we'll find out early in October...

If you noticed my location, Im currently driving the bandwagon this week. Its my job to make outlandish comments and promote the Redskins where/however applicable.

On a serious note, I believe that we will definately abuse Lavars weaknesses. He's definately someone to keep an eye on but I dont think he's going to be as big of a factor as people seem to think.

1. Multiple receiver sets are going to limit him a bit. He'll have to play in coverage and stick to his assignment.

2. We've faced similiar/better pass rushing type LB's and we've kept them at Bay. Even against Tampa in the playoffs, our offense struggled but CP was still out their stoning people. lol

Quote me.. Lavar's knee will not hold up, therefore come OCT. he wont be anywhere in sight , except talkin to sideline reporters about how next time he sees us he's gonna..blah .blah blah.

BITE ME. LAVAR ARRINGTON IS A NY GIANT! He is now hated and despised by me. I dislike him just like I dislike their 7th round pick in the draft. If you're not a redskin you are not a friend. If you are not a redskin you do not want us to succeed. If you are not a redskin, you are the enemy.

Didn't see that anyone noted that Arrington will, probably frequently, line up behind a guy named Michael Strahan. Accordingly, Brunell will be dealing with both Strahan and Arrington coming from his blind side. If Mark rolls left, he will have Osi U (14.5 sacks) to deal with.

Samuels is good, but Osi beat him for two sacks and a fumble recovery in the first game last year. In game two, Samuels was helped by the tight end as the Skins double teamed Osi. It worked. But pretty hard to double team both Osi and Michael, especially with Arrington following Michael. Also, in game two, as you may recall, a guy named Antonio Pierce was out with an injury (from which he is now fully recovered).

Last time I checked AP doesn't play DB, his availability would not have mattered.

Here's what will happen, Arrington will lay one decent hit on Portis, getting praise from the media for several weeks, but other than that will be a non-factor. The rest of the time, he will either be out all together due to a knee injury, mike sellers will be owning him, #47 will be owning him, and or, he will be totally out of postion.

Our line will have to have their A game on both g-men games this year. I see us running alot of short passes and screens, so even if they're betting our line off the ball, burnnel (or campbell) will have already tossed it to one of their favorite recievers.
