Grade The Skins Draft
After considering how the Skins did in the draft, what grade would you give them and why?

I'm sick of trading next years picks. I know it works on the trade value charts the GMs have, but in the long run we over pay for trading up. 2 seconds for one, grrr. I do like McIntosh though. I think from what I've read he'll be in the mold of AP or Marshall. The rest of the guys sound like good team players from what I read on their NFL.com profiles. Honestly though, 5-7th round picks are not really expected to make their teams, so if 2 of these guys pan out, I'll be happy. So, McIntosh, the only pick that is likely to have a real impact was a good pick, but the trade was stupid... thus I give them a C.

It was a average draft...
Roger "Rocky" McIntosh WLB smart player, hated we HAD to move up to get him but I like the pick
Anthony Montgomery DT not sure if he'll play O-line or D-line but he adds depth if he makes the roster
Kedric Golston DT
Kevin Simon LB
Kili Lefotu OG
Reed Doughty S
These guys will also provide depth if the are where worthy of the picks used on them.
Considering we do most of our rebuilding/restocking though free agency I think we did pretty good.
Current roster includes
7 Cornerbacks
7 D-Ends
7 OGs
6 RBs
6 DTs
4 Tackles, QBs, and TEs
13 wideouts
5 Safeties
3 centers including Albright
3 Fullbacks (on a Joe Gibbs roster
)
and 3 kickers (1 is a punter)
That's 82 player with UDFA (street free agents) and June 1 cuts to come.
Still won't be many spots open but we should be ok going into OTAs and training camp depth wise
Could have grade out at a "B" but only having 1 day one pick and giving one of next years away made it hard to do so.
The trade was a good trade. Had we not have signed Lloyd, we would have swapped 2nd round picks and 2nd round picks and gave them a third in this years draft (same trade that was made for
ey only a round earlier). Looking at the guys that came in for visits you just knew we were going to move up. If any of the quality OLB had been around after 50 I'd question the pick/trade more

C. Nothing flashy but I assume we will continue to address depth and other needs with undrafted free agent signings as well.

I have not read up too much about our draft, but am not happy with it right now. I've heard rumors that we traded up not to get McIntosh, but to get DJackson from Maryland. And when he got picked before our chance, we panicked and got what we were hoping to get with the 53rd. I'm not sure if that idea makes any sense, but I'm relying on it for the moment.
I think we needed a CB more than any position. I thik it's pretty clear that the CB position has a great chance to become our weakness next year. We have great starters in Springs and Rogers...but what if they get hurt. Football is a "mans" game...what if they get injured, who's next? We have the guy from Jacksonville and then Jimoh. I'd be a lot more at ease with the guy from Virginia Tech, the CB Williams. He looked like an excellent person who could eventually fill in the gap.
I really think we needed a Punter. Frost sucked last year our STeams was not great. A Punter in the 5th or 6th would've been great for competition and maybe even the starting role. Believe it or not, Punters and Kickers are very important to the team's overall performance.
In the end, I am not JGibbs or GWilliams. I hope what they did was correct. But right now, it seems like we wasted our 2nd next year (again) and did not perform well. I guess we're just a Free Agencey team, not a draft team. (Probably becasue of the fact that we rarely have any draft picks, anyway).
Whats yalls feeling?

"I was on the sideline and guys were talking about the score, and then it hit me -- we won by 21. I came in the locker room and I yelled it out, and immediately I just kind of broke down in tears. Because I miss Sean, you know."
I voted, C, a 75%.
I voted C because we did what we needed to do, add depth to the defense and the O-Line. But that's all we did.
Sure Rocky McIntosh is a great player from The U and looks as if he will strive in our agressive defense, however I believe we gave up way too much to get him. Actually, I feel we didn't even trade up for him but for DQwell Jackson, who was picked right after we made the trade.
-Now I know Gibbs has said that we traded up to get this guy, but if that's true and the guy they wanted was on the board at 35, why did they take the whole 9 Minutes to make the selection...?
But anyways, we gave up way too much, even if the Patriots gave up the same thing, I really don't care what they gave up, I just know that we gave up too much.
And yes our later round picks filled need (earing the C) however I feel there were much better players available when we made our picks.
But we'll see in 2-3 years who was right: My judgement, or Joe Gibbs' judement...

Link?
Actually, I feel we didn't even trade up for him but for DQwell Jackson, who was picked right after we made the trade.
Why would we make the trade 2 picks before our pick?
It doesn't add up.
What if Cleveland took Rocky and we then chose Jackson?
Would you be saying the same thing?
I also now that Rocky had an official visit and workout.
I could not find anything about Jackson except for him showing up at the local players workout. But all he did there was talk to the coaches.
If someone could find something showing that the Skins showed some real interest in Jackson this would be easier to believe.

I gave them a D for the following reasons.
1. Im tired of not having any picks in the draft. This year is a tad bit different because we kinda did have a pick but we used it last year. (1st round) Im a fan of the draft and young/cheap talent moreso than F/A. Just my preference.
2. I understand why the Skins felt the need to jump for Rocky BUT could we have jumped and given a lot less for it? I believe so. I feel the jump was warranted but that we gave up too much for it and thats been a reocurring theme for us.
3. How often do we even use rookies? I'd love for these guys to make the team but it seems like sometimes we're just drafting people for the sake of doing it.
4. No second round pick next year.
On the bright side...
We haven't pissed away our 1st round pick yet....
Maybe Shannahan will have a bag of pretzels the Skins F/O office likes and we'll trade it away for them.

So next year we trade every pick we have left to get the best corner![]()
Screw it, throw in all of our 2008 picks too, that should get us the number 1 pick at least.

Excuse me, but just what 3 picks are you talking about? From what I understand we swaped our 53rd this year for the Jets 35th this year, and our 2nd next year for the priveledge of moving up the 18 spots. Where does the 3rd player come from?

We also gave the Jets a 6th round pick.
Sorry Canes I forgot about that 6th rounder. I'm hoping Rocky will be worth it. He's one of your boys so I know he'll be ok.
I'd say a C. McIntosh is a good pick but we didn't have to move up to get a good LB. A couple of the late picks could work out, particularly Reed Doughty & Kevin Simon. I think we should have grabbed DT Rod Wright in the 5th or 6th round.

I actually have no problem with the trade. Having seen Rocky play in person the last 2 years I think that he is a great addition to the team and well worth the price. The reason I gave our draft a D was because I don't think that we used our other picks productivly. In each round (other than the 2nd) we passed on players that were more talented than the ones we drafted. Also there were some very good punters available late in the draft and I think that it would've been smart to draft one because Frost was about as inconsistent as a kicker could be last season. I was especially mystified by us not drafting a corner when our depth at that position is questionable, at best.

I agree, and was hoping we would come out of the draft with some depth at the corner position as opposed to two tackle's and two linebackers. I'm hoping these players are going to work out, but I certainly agree we could have gone in another direction with two of our picks. Considering where we picked in the latter rounds I have no problem with Montgomery and Doughty, but there were other players available with those other two picks that I feel would have better suited our needs.
