OL still a need - Larry Allen available
Larry Allen was released by Dallas - he's 34, and lost a little - that makes him about 2 times better than most OG out there. He is also versatile - can play tackle or guard on either side. Can you imagine Portis' numbers with another linemen of his caliber... Dockery has been good - but not dominant... just something to consider. What do you all think.

Larry Allen is ok but as it is specified in the Dallas news he does not have the capability to pull like he used to. He can still be a dominant straight ahead run blocker but he is probably better suited to be a backup at this point. I would not take a young pit bull like Doc out of the lineup. He is just about ready to hit his stide.

If we could get him for cheap (vet minimum maybe) he'd probably be a fine signing as an insurance policy on the O-line, especially since he can play T or G. Think of him as a younger Ray Brown!

As much as I make it known that I dont care for DD I would NOT pull him out for LA...
DD has 2 years of chemistry with these guys and is a solid contributor. It'd take someone insane for me to what to fool with this line at this point. Someone just needs to slap him around to give him a mean streak.

It's not about replacing starters (unless they need replacing); it's about having depth. You've got to have some cheap, solid guys on the bench to fill in when the big money guys go down. Injuries are a fact of life in this game, and if a team is not prepared for that fact, they're not prepared to play in the NFL. If he's healthy, L. Allen could be a good signing as a fill-in.

This is more of what I was hoping for. You sign him for pretty cheap and DD gets things going - works a little harder maybe cuz he doesn't want to lose his job. Then use Allen as a backup - we will most likely lose a lineman due to injury at some point - even if for only a game or two... it would be nice to have someone of this quality as a backup...

That's my argument, too. We don't need any ex-'Pies, no matter how good they once were.
Wasn't Brandon Noble pretty good (when he wasn't hurt)? I seem to remember him being pretty solid on the D-line.
Do you remember Deon Sanders? The guy who got his behind spanked on national TV. Yeah, he worked out great for us!

The fact that Allen is a Cowboy is a terrible reason not to sign him. The fact that Allen is 34 and breaking down is a great reason.

Maybe, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

Besides, he did get hurt, didn't he?

first of all I dont think we could afford him...but to say he is gettin old is true but he is still one of the top lineman in the game. He has made like 12 straight pro bowls including last season. Larry Allen is still the strongest player in the leauge. When Larry is at 75 percent he is still better than half of the lineman out there. I am not saying I strongly want him or would go way out of our way to get him but we have to give him respect even though he is a long time cowboy
Are you guys kidding me Larry Allen is still the strongest guy in the league maybe the world. I havent seen a drop off in his talent he still is one of the best and would certainly help. The only reason the Cowboys would have cut him must be the money.

Larry has slowed down over the past few years but he still has a year or two left in hom. I wouldn't be surprised if he re-signs with that team in Texas but I hope not.
