Big Holes Left, have we got the cash to fill them?

The Redskins still lack depth at CB, OL, S and TE but the BIG hole is still LB.

Are we planning on filling this hole via the draft? Are we talking to any WLB? MLB?

IMO this is extremely important. I heard we were talking to Sam Cowart (who is off to Texas to interview) but that suddenly we're not interested anymore (though I guess I didn't see confirmation of that.)

Who's out there that we want? Who's there in the draft for us?

What do you guys expect to happen at WLB/MLB?

I disagree, I like Fauria, but we could use another TE, one that is a good blocker.

The 3rd corner IMO has to be a draft pick so he and Rogers can be our starters for the future. I see our highest draft pick being here.

We need a safety.

I see us signing Goodwin (who will visit next week) who can back-up in O-Line and center.

In the TE/ H-Back we have ey, Fauria, Sellers, and Robert Johnson, and Manuel White.

We're good to go there.

LB is our biggest need. Chris CLemons is an option but I don't know if he can do it full-time. We'll have to see what happens here.

I also disagree that TE is a hole. Fauria may not be a star, and he is old, but he'll do better than Royal. Plus with all our WRs, I see us having the TE on the field less. I don't see us doing anything more than using one of the late round draft picks on the position this year. As for the other holes, here are my thoughts...

CB- there are still a number of huge stars availiable in FA. I don't think we'll get one, but it should drive down the price of some solid corners like Fletcher, Allen, Azuhma, and Dyson.

OL- Sounds like we're going to get that Godwin guy. Even with him though, we could use more depth. I guess that at least 2 of the late round picks will be spent here.

S- We need depth here, and knowing Gibbs it will be someone who can help on special teams. My vote would be to sign Keion Carpenter or Ifeanyi Ohalete. Carpenter was a solid starter in Atlanta for a few year and should come cheap. Also, he started alongside Prielou at VT in college , so there is a connection to get him here. As for Ohalete, I always liked him and thought we should have kept him, but since we didn't I doubt he'll be brought in.

LB- There are a few ways we could go here. We could go with who he have and either start McClune or Clemons at MLB or OLB respectively and have Marshall play the other. Personally, I haven't seen anything to make me think they are ready for that much playing time. We could sign Cowart like I heard rumors of earlier in the week or we could get one of the many availiable OLBs. I know people want to see Arrington brought back. I'm one of them, but I doubt it will happen. Maybe we can get Peterson or Polley, but I doubt they'd come cheap. If I were a GM, I'd be willing to spend a lot for LBs, but I don't know that the skins feel that way. Rumor earlier in the week was we'd get Adams from Phily. I have no idea whether he could be a solid starter for us or not, so maybe you guys can chime in on that. We could also use our 2nd round pick and get decent a OLB. Its risky to start a rookie, but I think there is enough depth there in this years draft for us to get a good player. I'm intreged by Kia Parham from UVA. I played against this guy in HS and watched him a lot on college. He's got all the physical tools but I think he's kinda lazy. If Williams can light a fire under him and make him play every down, I think he could be a solid draft pick and starter for us.

I like the idea of using a pick on a CB, but that late in the draft I think it makes sense to take the best player period.

Don't think we're looking for a super star to fill the void left by LaVar It's still early yet and we have plenty of time to fill the area's of need we have left. JG mentioned he may take a look at K Campbell at the OLB position, whether he can do it full time remains to be seen but we do have options. Fauria is a good blocker. I don't know where the idea that he isn't comes from...if anything he's a better blocker than reciever. Fauria obviously isn't a long term answer but I'm happy with him for now.

I'm not worried about the loss of Lavar since he hasn't played much in the last two years and we've been such a good defense. I'm much more worried about the Secondary and O-line...I'm also a bit baffled as to why we seem set to go ahead with Hall and Frost.

I know you guys hate ESPN, especially Lenny (with good reason). This is a Clayton article, but for those of you who still won't read it, it compares this year's LB class to the 2000 one, which was really deep and talented. It also points out that 4 of the last 5 Defensive Rookies of the Year were LBs. So, it is conceivable we could get a starting LB in the second rd.

Considering where we are picking it is not likely that any of these guys will get to start this year - I believe these guys will be to provide depth with hopefully some possibility of starting ability.

Gibbs and Williams are unlikely to start anyone of these guys but we still have 40 plus days to the draft and who knows what will happen.

We do seem to be a little better overall on paper but we need some depth.

I agree, I think Fauria, Sellers, Robert Johnson will all rotate in at TE...not to mention we have ey who is indeed an H-Back, but who knows how Al Saunders will utilize him. I can only imagine the various packages we will line up in. If we are going to have Lloyd, Randel El and Moss on the field at the same time, then we may not have two TE's in there at the same time. Maybe we'll have one TE out there and one H-Back or Full back in the backfield. Whether it's Fauria on the line and ey in the backfield/slot or vice versa, we can't tell yet. We also could have Fauria on the line with ey on the line opposite him..with Sellers in the backfield. Or go 1 back with all 3 WR's with ey and Fauria out there...who knows, but I don't think it's a hole anymore since we signed Fauria.

(Btw...i realize the difference between H back and TE) but I think Saunders will find multiple places for ey to line up.

I also think the kid Chrisitan Morton will make the roster. Alot of us have forgotten about him, but he played really well in our last and most important Reg Season game.

I am excited to see where the staff goes with our 2nd round pick. These days a 2nd round pick is just as valuable as a late first round pick with all of the talent out there that goes under the radar.

We can get a high quality CB, or OL in there. Maybe we are even looking at WLB as well. Who knows, but I don't think we have "holes"...no team has an all star team at every position and we will be no different. We're pretty much done in FA, and can only look for players that will serve as reserves.

Guys like Kelly Jenkins (CB) Miami, might be around.

Fauria is a excellent blocker, infact he is more known as a good blocker then a receiver. Our best hole has to be the OL. Without a good OL the entire offense is worthless, it all starts at the line. We have lots of talent in every position, we are not deep at some positions but Gibbs needs to focus on the OL.

Why does anyone think Fauria is a better pass catcher than Royal. There's no evidence of it, rather the reverse. Hopefully, he can block better, but that's a push to. He's probably not an upgrade and we've probably still got a hole at TE.

We definately do not have a hole at MLB. Maybe Clemmons can't cut it as an everydown LB, maybe he can. To me here's how it stacks up, hole-wise:

LLB: Maybe a hole
TE: A hole
S: Maybe a hole (if Taylor jailed)
CB: Maybe a hole (Springs injury prone)
Nickle: A hole
K: Maybe a hole (Hall injury prone)
QB: Probably a hole (Brunell injury prone, Campbell unready)

Uncertainties severe enough, especially at QB, to project 6 losses.
