Postion Needs and Player Preferences

Post by GoSkins »

Here are my preferences for position needs and respective player needs:

#1 DE we must have at least one stud here. Draft possibilities: Udeze, Smith or Odom. FA possibilities: Kearse, Wistrom

#2: DT we must upgrade here. Lots of talent available in draft: Starks, Harris, Wilfork, Childress, Dockett, Washington, Edwards. Do not appear to be many FAs available.

#3: RB is a need. I would trade down from #5 and pickup an extra 2nd rounder and 4th rounder for this. Greg Jones should be our target. Maybe trade for a Dillon? Or look at FAs.

#4: TE: Our needs on defense outweigh TE need but I believe we take Watson in early 3rd round.

#5: QB: Pickup Rich Gannon or Kurt Warner off waivers if, as expected, they are released in March.

#6: C: We need to upgrade here and a mid round pick can push to start or be ready to start in 1-2 years.

#7: SS: I'm not that negative on our current players but draft a headhunter in the 5 round.

So here are my picks:

#18? (via trade) Trade our #5 for mid round #1 and mid 2nd and 4th rounders. Mid 1st round draft stud DE even if we do sign Kearse of Wistrom

#42 Draft RB; Greg Jones

#50? (via trade) Draft DT; there are a number still available

#72 Draft TE; Ben Watson

#125?: (via trade) Draft Center; Jake Grove or Nick Leckey

#134: Draft SS; a headhunter and special teamer will do here

I look forward to seeing which undrafted college players the Skins sign after the draft based in the input from the experienced coaching staff - am sure there will be some keepers...

They said on ESPN that Gannon and Warner are going to stay with their teams. Ben Watson will not be available after the second round and we will probably sign a RB, so we won't need to draft one. Sam Adams, Ted Washington, and Cornelius Griffin are available free agents.

Well, Gibbs fan, you're mostly right. But most of the success from undrafted free agents was Bobby Beathards doing. Also a great example of our success was in 1987 with the scabs. I actually look forward to the draft this year unlike last year (3 picks... are you kidding me????!!!!!).

I'm curious to see what happens there too. This year we have four picks (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th). I can't wait until next year when we get all seven.

Theres nothing crazy about that. Id rather have two first rounders than the #5 pick. The only guy I would consider drafting in the top 5 would be Sean Taylor, but I would rather have Vince Wilfork AND Randy Starks!
