SI.com - Joe and Doug

Post by SCSkinsFan »

Not that any of us should care what SI.com has to offer, but on their website they have two polls that give us some props. One is the ranking of their Top 10 Super Bowl Coaches of all-time. Joe Gibbs is ranked #3 behind Bill Belichick - Patriots (#2), and Chuck Noll-Steelers (#1).

No. 3

Joe Gibbs
Redskins
He won three Super Bowls with three different quarterbacks (Joe Theismann in Super Bowl XVII, Doug Williams in Super Bowl XXII and Mark Rypien in Super Bowl XVI) and deserves credit for spreading his victories out over a 10-year period. For the most part, Gibbs was the main constant on those teams.

The other poll is their Top 10 ranking of former Super Bowl MVPs of all-time. Doug Williams is ranked #2 behind Joe Namath - Jets ($1).

Williams' watershed showing buried the shell-shocked Broncos beneath an avalanche of points and passing yards in the second quarter, as he threw for a record four touchdowns to turn a 10-0 first-quarter deficit into a 35-10 lead in the span of just 18 offensive snaps. He finished with 340 yards passing, and remains the only black quarterback to win the Super Bowl.

Who knows, maybe their two notables may even see the light this year and vote Art Monk into the Hall of Fame. :D

I clearly remember that superbowl, those were the good ole days. Williams really put it to'em in the 2nd Quarter.

Dont forget about the forgotten Timmy Smith running the ball and helping Doug kick ass....Timmy held the rushing record for awhile.

He still holds the record, but he wasn't the MVP of that Super Bowl.

ESPN had an alltime 40 man Super Bowl Roster. Joe Jacoby was backup to Art Shell. Riggins was backup to Franco Harris. Russ Grim was backup to that Steelers center in the 70s. My only gripe is how they left out lester Hayes,Darrell Green didnt even get mentioned. Oh yeah Dave Butz was an honorable mention. Also no mention of Manley or Mann. At least we got three in the roster.
Sean Taylor starting free safety Heavens team!

Noll and Belichick both had the same Hall of Fame QB for each Super Bowl win.

Coach Gibbs did it with 3 diff QBs, none of which will be getting busts in Canton anytime soon.

And also don't forget that Gibbs won three Super Bowls with 3 different starting running backs.

Well Gibbs will pull ahead when he wins another trophy or two for the Skins.
