Punish Chris Mortenson

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Punish Chris Mortenson

Post by The Hogster »

Last year he had this bogus story saying that his "sources" confirmed that Gibbs would step down. This year he claims that his "sources" confirmed that Parcells would consider retiring.

Well we know how Gibbs panned out and Parcells signed a new deal through 2007. What is the punishment for journalists who do crap like this?

Mortenson trumps up stories just to make headlines. The stories have no merit. What is the recourse for idiots like this?

Is it just loss of credibility, or should he be fired?

I doubt any of those guys have half the sources they spot off about. They all probally have one insider who works the lunch line at the training facilities that updates them to cafeteria talk.

While he was dead wrong on the first story with sources on Gibbs, it's rather easy for him to cover his tracks on the second story. To say that someone is "considering" retiring is to say nothing at all.

It's like the announcers on Sunday afternoon that say things like "And so and so is having arguably the best season of his career." Then CLL comes in with the picture. . .

So, a  to Hogster for calling him out on it, but it's not like he was saying much with the nice qualifier "considering" in there.

Not unhappy with it but if you would share that picture with the national media that could just print the picture and we wouldn't have to read their articles about stuff we already knew

His son, Arkansas's third string QB, is transferring probably.

Thing is, he is a better at college football than pro football in my mind, because he wrote some college football articles awhile back they were excellent and better than some of his pro stuff which I have to call bull on.

Isn't drawing added attention to the guy the EXACT opposite of 'punishing' him?

My 2 cents
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

Attention? Think he's reading this thread?? :?

Or anyone else who gives a darn for that matter. Beware, this thread may boost credibility for the Mort Report.

I actually like Chris Mortensen. He is one of the few analysts that actually likes the Redskins. Chances are, if he reported something, it came from a source he trusted.

Stop being so fragile. This wasn't directed at you.

Who cares whether Mortensen checks this thread or not, the actual point here is WHO FROM THN is going to GO check what he said. So every time one of you says go check what this idiot says... whether you realize it or not... you're supporting them... you're visiting their sites... they're serving up their sponsors to you... some of you should ask yourelf if these outlets care more about what you think or how often you check them out and think it.

Because their ads are going to come up whether you agree with what they say or not.

You might not be contributing to the 'credibility of the mort report' but you ARE increasing exposure to it. That was the only point I was trying to make.

That is precisely why I wonder whether his "boss" or whoever he is accountable to will punish him or put him on a shorter leash with his reports.

I look to ESPN for most of my sports news, and I don't want to stop watching NFL Countdown or Primetime to avoid the "MOrt Report".

Everybody is reviewed or accountable to someone, and I am just wondering whether Mort's superiors will look into his sources more and require more credibility before he spews this crap all over the place on Sundays.

He makes this story that Gibbs will step down and that Parcells is considering retiring, but there is no way that he can really verify that. In the interest of journalism, that stuff needs to be scrutinized a bit more before millions of fans have to listen to it.

Sure we could change the channel, but realistically who doesn't watch ESPN.

It hurts to say it, but I'm with Hogster.
You ought to be accountable for what you put into print.
