now that the season is officially Over, it's time to see what either ramsey or campbell can do. nothing against brunell, he has done a good job in general this season (though his fumbling has probably cost us some games, and i think it's been clear that he's been starting to wear down as the season has been progressing).
and please don't tell me we still have a shot at the playoffs: we would only be able to lose 1 more game to even have a CHANCE, and if we are going to lose to the raiders, it means we suck.
so very depressing to see 11 months worth of anticipation and excitement go down the toilet so such an incredibly loseristic team as the norv-turner led raiders.
After we lose to San Diego next week, then i think we may need to start campbell. Start getting him some expericance so we can go on to another decade or so of losing.
We are still a long shot. As far as i know Campbell is still a year away from starting and we've seen what Ramsey can do. Just keep Bunell in. Quarterback roullete isn't going to help us.

i sort of agree with dcd... just b/c the loss is soo fresh and skins were so pathetic today. but really i say its a bad idea and i dont want to give up solely because i dont want the broncos to have a high draft pick. that would be embarrasing and make us look soo stupid

well, i see it more as a sort of "hail mary", desperate move to provide a spark to save the season, rather than give up. which is why i'd like to see ramsey out there now, personally
. but, i suppose the head coach would probably want to wait until at least one, even 2 more losses until he totally packs it in. which should be within the next couple weeks, the way we've been playing. so maybe we'll see another QB out there pretty soon.
i really want to emphasize here that i do think brunell has been pretty good and i'm not saying it's all his fault we've lost or anything. just that at this point, it's clear we're not getting it done, not good enough for the playoffs. i would advocate some changes at other positions too, but there are really no other options at any other position.

I mean it's pretty sad that we lost to the Raiders, but the only thing that is keeping us down is
1) TO 2) Poor play calling
I mean that's TWO straight games where we have lost the game on a sack.
Man I wish we still had our bye week...
i definitely feel where you are coming from, air_hog. but the problem i have is, we've been saying the same thing about turnovers all season. let's face it, it's over. we're not going to get any better there this year, for whatever reason.
SkinsFanInHawai'i wrote:So we should just give up?
No, but it sure looked like the team did today.
agreed. we came out of the gate flying around, playing with passion. but it seemed like that fumble killed it completely, they were totally flat all day after that.

We just need to play 60 mins of football, not 1 Half.
I think we actually play better against the good teams, I mean I'm sorry but the Raiders flat out suck. Next week will be the biggest game of the season, if we lose we are under .500 and things won't be looking so good in the NFC East for us. But if we win we will be over .500 and still in contention.

It's not over. That was a terrible game. Except for our run D we looked pretty bad. The only thing we could do offensively was run the ball and then we end up fumbling twice!
The problem is we need to max protect to give Brunell time but then we can't get anyone open. Then if we sent more guys out we couldn't stop their pass rush. It wasn't at all Brunell's fault, the offense just didn't click today.
This isn't over but the team needs to really play hard down the stretch now. The last two weeks we have let two games get away that we should have won. Now we need to steal one from San Diego and beat NY and Dallas. At the most we can lose one more game and make the playoffs, we may need to win out.

we're not a very good football team, that's why. Stupid fumbles(nice job Portis), a stupid offensive game plan (kept trying to go to Taylor Jacobs all friggin' day long which for the life of me I can't understand. It NEVER worked.), pathetic blocking (No protection whatsoever for Brunell's "blind side". Not sure what's up with Jansen and Robert Royal sure isn't the answer either apparently.)
Good teams don't lose games like this. If we can't beat the sorry Raiders, at home, who are we going to beat? This was the only cupcake left on the schedule.

I agree, we kept on making the same stupid mistakes they did. Just a very ugly game all around.

that's pathetic guys. you call yourself skins fans? we've only got 5 losses, look at the rest of the NFC. you know for damn sure that the wild card won't come out of the north, they are just pathetic. the south, eh, maybe, and west isn't that far off the "eh" status either. that leaves the east, and we can get a wildcard, if not win our division, STILL. you have to keep your head up, yeah we lost to two pretty bad teams, but redskins football is about resiliency and spitting in the face of adversity.
its not squarely on brunell's shoulders either, if anything we should "ditch" the defense for screwing around and giving up HUGE plays when it matters. brunell has played as well as anyone, and sure he's looked crappy for the last few weeks. did the colts ditch peyton manning when he didn't throw 10 touchdowns in the first two weeks of the season? no.
im not trying to compare the two guys at all, if that's what you're thinking. all im saying is that you have to keep the faith alive. sure we are in a slump, but that's okay, we can't win all of them and losing builds character. you know joe won't let them harp on this, and will tell them to keep their heads high and prepare doubly hard and play doubly hard next week. so please, for all of our sakes, BE A SKINS FAN and keep the hope alive. i wouldnt say this if we were 4-6 like philthy, but we're 5-5 with 6 weeks left to play and some very winnable games. if we win out, or even go 5-1, we still have a shot. keep the hope alive folks, we're closer than you think.
Sean, may you always rest in peace and look down on us with the same love that we look up to you.

Playoff Teams do not have a minus 12 turnvoer ratio. If you turn the ball over more than the other team, more times than not you will loose. Its catching up with the Skins now.
Season could be salvaged - no playoffs but they need a win. Wish we had Arizona next week.

if we pull out a win against san diego next week, that may temporarily postpone reality. we'll think, "we can beat the cardinals and rams, and put ourselves in position to make a run with those 3 division games at the end". sorry, too late. you can't lose to the raiders and expect/deserve to make the playoffs. you can't lose to the raiders and even call yourself a football team.
we need to acknowledge that our team sucks this year. ok, we don't suck. but we aren't good. the only positive is, we've definitely shown a lot more potential on offense this year than we did last year. so if we can fix the defense back up and fix the turnover problem, we'll be a real contender next year. but let's not be foolish enough to believe that after 11 weeks of the same problems, they are suddenly going to magically fix themselves during the middle of the year.

We are Skins fans, were sick and tired of losing, frustrated Skins fans. We all have watched this team this saeson do nothing. Personally I have been a fan since I was 7 years old watching Joey T against the Dolphins in the Superbowl in 82. I am 30 now. Since 92 I have seen countless good starts lead to pathetic football down the stretch, Marty's 0-5 to 5-0 to fall short again. In 96 start 7-1 just to miss the playoffs again, in 2000, The playoff game were Turk rolled the game winning field goal attempt snap back to his brother and the kick never left the ground. I have been watching football for 20 years and I know the game inside and out, and right now we are not a playoff team. they have a 6 days to become one and turn this around otherwise another loss could really seal the end for the 2005 season.
Exuses,Exuses,Exuses, blah, blah, blah,!!!!I have been a Redskin fan all my life and this is just getting old!!!We should have beat the Raiders badly today!!!The defense did it's job(Except our pass rush stinks) and the offense couldn't get going becuase of a poorly designed play scheme by our offense!!!Yes they were blitzing but I did not see any calls that were opposite the pressure side of the blitz!!!Anyway it does not matter you can talk about all the problems and go on and on, but we are not winning and that's the real problem.Time for a reality check!!!!!We are not going to the playoffs again!!!!I had such strong hopes this year but i guess that we will have to wait for next year!!Time to stick the fork in the turkey because we are done!!!WE are the laughing stock of the nfl once again and after Boomer and Sharpe picked us to win the nfc east i just want to I don't want to give up on the team but the odds are not in our favor. Besides the three game winning streak at the start of the season we have not done crap!!!Time for another reality check!!!Out of the last seven games played this would be after the three game winning streak we are 2/5!!! I know some guys are going to say that we are not done and bye some miracle I hope that you are right and we do make it to the playoffs and trust me we will need a miracle to get in!!!

Also, why is our fixiation the playoffs? I mean, the Rams made the playoffs last year, and they were terrible. What needs to be the focus of the season is getting to a point where we are a solid team all around---I mean, fumbles, turnovers, poor pass coverage, giving up leads at the end of games--these are things good teams don't do.
Having said all that, I'm still not that bummed about the Skins as a whole. I know that there are people here that expect the Skins to make the Super Bowl every year, but you have to build a Super Bowl team (hell, you normally have to build a playoff team). As far as the building process, I think things are moving in a better direction--Snyder has learned to be more judicious with his money, the offense has at least at times managed to come together, etc...But, our holes are very clear:
1) Revamp the D-line: Cornelius is great, but we need more speed of the edge, and a little more bulk in the middle.
2) Address the 2nd corner spot--I don't really count this one, b/c I think carlos rogers will be just fine, but if we're going into next year with walt harris, we're in trouble...
3) Tinker with the O-line--Something is just not right...we can't handle edge rushers, and seem sluggish on running plays to the edge (by the way, you want Portis to return to Broncos form? Stop running him between the tackles every play; the last two games have been better, but I think the o line may be a limitation in this regard)
4) Upgrade at QB-listen, Mark Brunell has played better and it's pretty impressive to see the turnaround from last year, but honestly, if we want to compete, we're going to need more at QB than what we're getting. Again, I'm not that worried about this one, b/c I think Campbell is going to be great. While I don't know if it's time to start him, if we drop another 2 games early, I'd like to see him through the end of the season ...hell, even Charlie Frye got some reps today....
5) Playcalling on both sides of the ball--ok, before everyone starts screaming that familiar mantra of "trust the coaches," I just think there needs to be more diversity on both sides...you can't just throw go routes to taylor jacobs, or hooks to santana moss every play...on D, it would be nice to see some of those exotic blitzes and zones we hear so much about...those may come with more talent at the d line and secondary, but I'm just saying, we could use it....
I can't believe all you guys have the words, "skins," and ,"pride," and, "dominate," in your handles! This is the best our team has looked since 2001! I'm upset about losing too, but 5-5 is better than we have been at this point in the season since Martyball!
We have been a horrible team since 1999. I'm just happy to have a chance, no matter how slim, this late in the season.
