AFC West versus NFC East 2005 - UPDATED

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

AFC West versus NFC East 2005 - UPDATED

Post by Redskin in Canada »

I will update this thread throughout the season.

A few points for discussion:

1. NFC East is the strongest division in the NFC. There are good individual NFC E teams elsewhere but as divisions go, the NFC East is the only one with a winning record overall and -anybody- in the NFL would have its hands full playing against any of the four teams in the NFC East.

2. AFC West is the strongest division in the AFC. Broncos, Chiefs, Raiders and Chargers are all strong teams. The Raiders are the weakest link so far but you should not discount them with all the talent even if they are handicapped by having Norv Turner.

The two divisions are facing each other this season:

Week 1
Dallas 28, San Diego 24
Season Total: AFC W 0 - NFC E 1

Week 2
None
Season Total: AFC W 0 - NFC E 1

Week 3
Philadelphia 23, Oakland 20
San Diego 45, N.Y. Giants 23
Season Total: AFC W 1 - NFC E 2

Week 4
Oakland 19, Dallas 13
Philadelphia 37, Kansas City 31
Season Total: AFC W 2 - NFC E 3

Week 5
Denver 21, Washington 19
Season Total: AFC W 3 - NFC E 3

Week 6
Kansas City 28, Washington 21
Season Total: AFC W 4 - NFC E 3

Week 7
Philadelphia 20, San Diego 17
N.Y. Giants 24, Denver 23
Season Total: AFC W 4 - NFC E 5

Week 8
Denver 49, Philadelphia 21
Season Total: AFC W 5 - NFC E 5

Week 9
None

Week 10
None

Week 11
Oakland at Washington

Week 12
Denver at Dallas
San Diego at Washington

Week 13
None

Week 14
Kansas City at Dallas

Week 15
Kansas City at N.Y. Giants

Week 16
None

Week 17
N.Y. Giants at Oakland

This is what I think:

1. The games played within each division are the most important of course. But the outcome of the games played against the other division may mean who goes to the playoffs and who does not on each side (wins plus common opponents).

2. Any team in one division can knock any other one in the other division on any given weekend. This race for the playoffs in each division may not be fully decided until weeks 16 or 17.

Any views?

Not really. Bad teams may lower the competitive level of others. In our division we have a tough fight for the survival of the fittest.

Hard competition brings superior effort. I love to be in the NFC East with our hated rivals.

True, there are hardley any true rivals these days outside NFC East and AFC West. I mean sure there are a few random rivalries like Green Bay/Chicago. But like in the AFC South... I mean come on.

It could not be more even among the NFC East and the AFC West.

I am updating the first post of this thread as the games take place.
