Eric Allen, of ESPN.com wrote:Even though the Redskins lost this game it's time for the Redskins to be taken seriously as a contender in the NFC. They have an excellent defense that provided pressure on the quarterback and a defensive backfield that can make plays. In addition to that they have a renewed Mark Brunell on offense who Joe Gibbs has a lot of faith in as a player. Brunell gives this team the run-pass option that makes their offense difficult for opposing defenses to game plan against.

"Respect"
Wow, that really surprised me! He was talking trash on Monday QB on ESPNews just this week. Like I said in another thread, even in a losing effort I think we really gained respect and showed we aren't just flukes. The offense continues to gel and Brunell's leadership is remarkable.

I think the Eagles also proved today that they may not be either. What a pathetic performance! I am actually starting to believe we have a shot at this division right now.

Good stuff from Michael Smith:

And how about a little John Clayton and John Lynch for good measure:

...As for the Redskins, I thought they were for real even before they came within a two-point conversion of tying Sunday's game at Denver. The Redskins have doubters because they've won by the skin of their teeth (their three victories were by a combined six points) but the Patriots have built a dynasty on close victories. Why is New England praised for making plays at the end of games while Washington is knocked for it? Mark Brunell is authoring one of the best stories in the league this year. The 'Skins will be in this thing for a while.

"They are for real," Broncos safety John Lynch said. "They are playing great defense. Offensively, they are playing great football. They are at the top of the league in third-down conversions. They got big-time, explosive players on offense. They are tough to deal with."

There have been a few of us here who could see the signs of a team coming together. The problem with most of the media is that they have to look at and "analyze" the whole NFL. That being said there a lot of people here who just got tired of "the same old story" and we should understand that BUT these coaches are doing a fantastic job and it's going to take a little time to undo the damage from the previous "mistakes"! The team is still coming together but there are not many teams right now that are playing with the spirit that this group is showing.
We are a very serious playoff team and the coaches and players deserve a lot of credit. Again, I would point out that even the "better" teams are not that much removed from the good teams and IMO we are in that category right now. I only see us getting better.

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

As long as we can keep the injuries down, it really looks like we are on a good trajectory. Hopefully we can continue to improve on the running game. The passing success we've had has got to help open things up for a home run hit or two.

Howie Long said it best during his post-game wrap-up. The Redskins are a legitimate contender. We're moving the ball on offense and, save yesterday, holding things together on defense.
There's still a lot of football left to play this season.

"The biggest misrepresentation there is that [it's because] Dan's got a lot of money. That's not it," Gibbs said. "We've got a rule. Believe me, if we had no rules, Dan would spend some money."

I agree. We made the 'mighty' Broncos look like "My Little Lucky Ponies"
Despite the outcome, we were "cookin' with grease", baby, the whole game!

DE Renaldo Wynn re: Marcus Washington: “They were like, 'No.53, man, what’s his deal?’” Wynn says, smiling. “I told them, 'This dude is full speed.’ Even when they were kneeling on the ball, he was still coming. Marcus has only one speed.”

Hey, by every measure, we pretty much dominated the Broncos yesterday. Two busted plays for huge TD runs was the only thing that prevented a clear win.
And I agree....this is probably the "best" loss I can remember, because Denver is a solid team, and they are one of the most difficult teams to beat at home. Their home record is amazing, and we kicked their butts in every category....except the important one.

Man, we really played a solid football game. We're certainly much closer to being a contender than we have been in the past decade. Hats off to Tatum Bell, he was the difference maker. Hope we can find help at CB this week! KC throws the ball all over the field - we need to knock Trent down... a LOT!

Bronco's didn't cheat, officials called a bad game...that and a few mistakes took it from us. It was obvious to all we stomped Bronco hide. Forget about loss and winning respect of idiots. It looks like we're the real thing and a danger to anybody, I'm expecting the playoffs, and here and now confessing I was wrong about Brunell and that Gibbs was right.
My worries are now about a few positions on the defense...DE's in particular, Arrington, and getting healthy at the corners; and the special teams, which seem to me wretched.
Daniels is not working out, Wynn never has.
Neither of those long runs should have happened...one was clip assisted...both involved missed tackles. Daniels missed one... I'm not sure who missed the other.
I think we need Arrington on the field in place of Holdman. He did ok yesterday, but still provided no rush.

Does anyone else feel like Brunell could have run that ball in for the 2 point conversion?
I realize he saw an open receiver in the back of the end zone, but it sure looked like Mark had room to run to the outside to tie the game...
It's all heresay now, but I feel like we had a very legitimate chance of tying the game up with that - aside from the fact that we got SHAFTED on at least 3 penalties.
Jake Plummer. You fumbled, dude.
Referee. How can you not call a blatent pass interference on Denver's D, while just a little while earlier you called a foul on Patten for putting his fingernail on the defender.
Oh well. It was a pretty good game, and we played well. But if we're gonna play close games all year, I hope more of them end up like the previous three, and not the last one. Still, bravo Skins. You were this close to being 4-0. We're still rollin though.
Beat them Chiefs!

why on earth would you congratulate someone who only "made a difference" during a play in which his team cheated?
I'm scratching my head on that statement. How did they cheat. We missed tackles, over ran plays. We really beat ourselves in this one. Look at the numbers. We had all those penalties, the turnover. The field goal made which was invalid due to the false start. We lost b/c we didn't play smart. Not b/c they cheated. Jansen is holding like crazy out there. The ref's just didn't call it. He's doing everything he can with those missing thumbs.

Peter King is even coming around (still don't like the guy, though. They always have him on the Boston sports station. It sucks.):
and later....
Nevertheless he still ranked us tied with the Giants at 11th while ranking Dallas at 4th.
"I think the man who makes our HBO show, Inside the NFL, tick, Brian Hyland, said it all to me about the Redskins in his 3:01 a.m. e-mail today (and don't ask, the man's a night owl): "Redskins probably made more of a statement in their loss than they have in their wins."
and later....
"Mark Brunell, you're proving lots of people, including me, wrong. "

This is spooky. I can't believe I didn't think about that before!
I didn't do the shot!
Let me explain myself. I was at a local sportsbar with just one of the 50 screens showing the Skins game. I couldn't hear anything as the Dallas game was blaring over the speakers. I had a dumbass drunk Pats fan talking my ear off and I couldn't concentrate. I was by myself and just wanted to watch the game but that guy took me out of my game and I completely forgot the shot!
I apologize to the THN family for letting you down. It will never happen again...... I guess its back to listening at home to Sam and Sonny over streaming internet from now on.

OHHHH NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I was going to ask you if you did the shot!!! I should've guessed!!!!
Gulp. I didn't wear my obnoxious hat or beads...(but I didn't wear the beads last week, but wore the hats all weeks before!) But I believe it was the lack of shot that did it! Thank you for not letting this happen again.
