I would absolutely love to see Big Country get a ring. He deserves it as much as anyone in the game, and he worked for it. He was a backup fullback, backed up Terry Allen, and even Brian Mitchell.
He finally got his shot in 1999 and made the most of it. He is the 3rd leading rusher in franchise history, and set the franchise record with 1,422 yards while playing Marty ball in 2001.
Because Spurrier felt he would be better off with a faster back that demanded less carriers, Danny opted not to attempt to restructure his deal. (I don't want to hear about the 11 million a year B.S... Because he we'n't on to sign a deal for 5 million a season) He told reporters later that he wanted to stay in D.C, and that he would have taken less money. "It was obvious that they no longer wanted my services." He didn't want to move all four of his kids, he wanted to stay in D.C, where he had been his hole career.
In Carolina, he remains the workhorse we remember him as, carrying the rock 318 times, for over a career high of well over 1,400 yards (1444 if memory serves me correctly), averaging 4.5 a pop. He goes to his third playoff game ever and goes for 104 on 26 carries and reaches the endzone. In his 4th playoff game gets just 6 carries before getting hurt in the first, but still manages 88 yards.
Now Gibbs is back, jumbo will be in effect, and we will have an average or good back. Not a great back, that would fit the mold perfectly. Riggo said on the news that Davis reminds him alot of himself, and wouldn't he be great here.
Too bad, snooze ya lose. I'm just saying if it was a perfect world, Trung would be a Ram, Davis would be a Skin, and Gibbs would be listening for the trash truck in a nother two hours. One of those things is true....

i still have nothing but respect for SD, still wear my 48 jersey on a regular basis. and the salary thing WAS BS. spurrier had to have an excuse NOT to run the ball, cause SD was so good at it when he got the chance. mediocre backs would be all the more reason to pitch and catch. it's almost like he was shunned away, your not good enuff for us anymore.(how many former redskins are rippin it up somwhere else? ) and another BIGFLOCK YOU, SOS

if you have been here from the start, you know that I did and always will love SD.
But 'what ifs' are for Cowboy fans.
With or without Spurrier, SD ws not going to be a Redskin in 2003... not because of offense, not because of his 'fit' but because he had an $11 million cap number.
.... now it is fair to say that had we thought that we could use Davis properly, we may have found a way to re-work that contract, but to be honest with you, I follow the cap as closely as anyone... it wasn't possible... period. We had re-worked his contract so often that he was a cap nightmare no matter what we did.
We owed him 5 million to not use him, and we COULD not have got his cap hit below 6 or 7 mil a year NO MATTER WHAT WE DID because of PAST ADJUSTMENTS. You can't just redo a contract and throw out the old one when that old one had just been butchered and hacked to death.
I miss SD, no doubt about it, but I look forward to the birth of the next great power runner in Washington in 2004.

it's worth 6 or 7 to have a ground game when you need it. although, like you said, we all know that he wouldn't have been used properly this season, so in turn it wasn't worth it. but, my point is: IF marty had stuck around, he would have known the importance of having that ground game, and one way or another would have had SD in B&G this year(coles would probably be wearing green still). but, like you said in another post, "what ifs" are for puke fans.....We owed him 5 million to not use him, and we COULD not have got his cap hit below 6 or 7 mil a year NO MATTER WHAT WE DID because of PAST ADJUSTMENTS.

kinda sort of. he's the biggest bruiser available. cinncy is going to part ways with him. they'll try to trade, if they don't get anything, they'll cut him. while his attitude is subpar, he's one up on anything available in FA or the draft, right now at least. i think he'd be a great pick up. his attitude is understandable. if i had to put up with the bungles for five years, only to lose my job to a backup, after injury, when things started to come around, i'd be sprung too. winning is a cure all, besides, it's not like the guy is gonna get a blockbuster at his age. probably wouldn't cost that much to give him the boot if he did start running that mouth again.
don't take all this the wrong way. i'm not so far up dillon's @$$ that i can't see daylight, i just think he's our best option "right now". besides, there are only two guys that have rushed for more yds in a single game than walter payton, and he's one of em.to be on the same level as sweetness in any stat is commendable.

more on dillon
from the postJoe Theismann, a television analyst who once played quarterback for Gibbs, expects the Redskins to target Corey Dillon, who has requested a trade from the Cincinnati Bengals. At his best, Dillon, 29, is one of the league's top runners, but he suffered two injuries last season and was viewed by some as a malcontent.
