I was just thinking about some of the dumbest rules in the NFL. There are a few of them, but the absolute dumbest and most obselete rule is that you can only activate 40 something players for gameday.
Okay, you can have a guy make your team, but you can't use him how you want to. I just don't see the point to that. If you have to pay these guys the full contract value, then why not be able to use him how the heck you want?
What are your thoughts of the dumbest NFL rule??

Well, they do get to suit up, they just arent' play eligible unless an injury occurs.
Take the 3rd QB. Your #1 gets a game-ending maybe worse, injury, that guy is activated.
I see your frustration, but I don't think it's THAT bad a rule.
You think I didn't wanna see Peerless Price play last week?

i agree, that seems pretty dumb. another candidate would be the "Tuck Rule", of course (have they removed that yet? i forget).
but my vote for Dumbest NFL Rule is the fact that you are not allowed to challenge penalties. there is no possible explanation as to how that makes any sense. a penalty is simply a "call", a judgement by a ref, absolutely no different than a ref decided if a runner was down or if his foot was in bounds. all of those things are subject to review by replay. yet inexplicably, penalties (or "no-calls" when there SHOULD have been a penalty) are not.
we all know from experience (terrible, lousy experiences), that a bad penalty or no-call can be just as huge a "game-changing" play as any legit thing that happens. every year i'm completely amazed that no one even mentions that it might be a good idea to THINK about allowing penalties to be challenged.

I think the rule about the number of players is dumb because they just picked some random number and say, you can only play this amount of players.
In my opinion you should be able to play whoever the heck you want to play.
You are paying for them, why not have them available in case you wanna use them in a certain situation. The pukes may have wanted to use Price in certain packages, but because of that rule, he sits out.
The Skins had to sit Nemo, and we may have used him on certain short yardage packages. I just don' see the point in telling the team that they can't play the players on their "active roster".

I say screw their pride though. They ought to man up when they make mistakes.
yeah, i had thought that is probably it as well. but i don't really understand how saying "you called a penalty wrong" is any different than saying "you called a catch/fumble/spot/foot in bounds/etc wrong".

....well i have to say the no tuck rule also.
I also hate when the refs throw a flag after the guy jumps off the ground gesturing for a Pass Interference call and the refs seemingly look at their body language and think "he must be being honest, I will go ahead and throw my hanky".
