Send Out Positive Vibes !!!

Post by RayNAustin »

Hey, everyone.....whoever the QB is, we need to put out positive winning vibes, and stop conceeding defeat before week two even starts!!

Last year I was screaming for a QB change that happened too late. Apparently, Brunell was injured, and continued to play (try to play) anyway. So judging him on last years performance isn't a totally accurate measure of his ability.

This year, from what I've seen so far,I have no problem with the switch to Brunell. And for those boo birds who say he can't throw down field, I've got news for you. Brunell's average yards per pass completion for his career is equal to Joe Theisman's (7.0) and better than Ramsey's (6.4) or Bledsoe's (6.6), and just slightly behind John Elway's (7.1). And Brunell's completion percentage is higher 59.6 than all of them.

I'm not saying Brunell is anywhere close to being Elway. All I'm saying is that the stats don't lie, and if you compare his to others, you'll see his stats are pretty solid compared to other QB's considered "Great". Does that make him "great"? Maybe not, but it sure tells me he isn't a bum either.

Gibbs sees a competent leader in Brunell. He sees a guy who has been to 3 pro bowls, with career stats equal to top 30% of QB's throughout his career. (I think he sees Mark Rypien in Brunell). And I think Gibbs is right.

Last year was an anomally for Brunell (career wise), and it left a bad taste in our collective die-hard Redskin fan's mouths, including mine. But that was then, and this is now. And we have more than enough talent surrounding Brunell to be efficient, and productive. Much better talent than last year. The O-line is better. The scheme for Portis is better. Moss has more speed, and runs great after the catch. And Patten is much better than Gardner as the #2 guy.

But the entire offense has to perform better than last year, including the Coaching staff!! Brunell isn't gonna beat anyone single handedly like maybe a Brett Favre could pull off, but Brunell also doesn't commit the holding penalties that puts us at 3rd and 13 instead of 3rd and 3. He doesn't miss the blitz pick-up, and he doesn't run the pass route 2 yards shy of first down yardage, or the false start on the line. He's also not the one who fails to get the play in on time causing delay of game penalties, and wasted timeouts that were way too noticable last year. All of these things contribute to success or failure.

Collectively, we need to perform better in the Red Zone, and that has every bit as much to do with controlling the line inside the 20 than throwing the deep ball.

Last year we found a way to loose several games we should have won. We need to do the opposite this year, and find a way to win those close one's. That may mean that each game we need someone to step up and make that great catch of a ball not perfectly thrown, or break a tackle for a big gainer, or blow out the d-line and score from 7 yards out on the ground.

Last year Brunell threw for 325 yards and 2 TD's against the Cowgirls and we still lost. I don't see how that was his fault alone.

Let's get behind Brunell, and let's kick some Dallas arse.
