Redskins should go with rookie QB now

Post by Skinna Mob »

Terry Bradshaw / FOX Sports

Here's the thing if you are a Washington Redskins fan. I've seen Patrick Ramsey and Mark Brunell. And I know they are good people and that Ramsey hurt his neck on Sunday against the Bears. But doggone, there comes a time when you make a change at quarterback.

Coach Joe Gibbs made Jason Campbell a first-round draft pick. I watched Campbell play a lot at Auburn. I think he's a gamer and he throws very well. I mean, Campbell can go 6-for-11 passing if that's what Gibbs' plan is for his offense. Those were Ramsey's stats.

I would be playing him. If he's worthy of being a first-round pick, then you must think he has some talent. I'd just put him in there. I swear I would. I simply don't see anything great from Washington's other two quarterbacks. I don't see any difference-makers at quarterback. Why not start the rookie?

Let's be honest, the Redskins are going to run Clinton Portis (121 yards vs. the Bears) anyway. That's their offense right now. Joe Ferguson started in Buffalo in the 1970s when they had an offensive line called the Electric Company with a runner like O.J. Simpson. All Ferguson did was simply manage the ship. He didn't do anything spectacular in the beginning, but he got all that experience. They are going to run the football. You don't need Peyton Manning back there from what the Redskins are trying to do on offense.

I'm waiting for the Joe Gibbs offense that I loved more than 15 years ago. I know Gibbs still has it. I'm not one of those people saying the game or time has passed Joe by. He's too smart for that. I just don't think he has the people to pull the trigger. That's what it appears like. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I feel.

Believe me, I think any coach can tell when a guy has "it." You know what, we've been waiting for "it" to pop up for awhile. Maybe Campbell has "it." I loved him in college. So why doesn't Joe find out? You never know. The Redskins' quarterback could be sitting on the sideline right now.

I just thought this was one position I havent heard discussed or debated over. I think Bradshaw makes several valid points.

i agree. there is going to be a learning curve sooner or later. cuz the answer IS NOT ramsey, it ain't brunell either. My 2 cents

The only way for a rookie to learn is by playing. It would mean giving up some wins but its probably a great time to start since the Defense is so damn good. Of course they are not going to play the Bears every week.
Most likely Ramsey will be cut or traded and Brunell injured - so, Campbell will get a look soon.
Just beat Dallas - they are A-H****

Im not sold on Brunell at all, And I wish Ramsey was the answer, But hes not, I know Jason Campbell isnt ready, But he is all we have left, If Brunell gets hurt we would have to use him, So I hope he atleast gets some playing time to learn things, I wish now we had Tim Hasselback with us again. Protect Campbell's confidence as long as you can. Let him sit and learn until Brunell gets hurt.

I hope Brunell breaks his leg on the first play of the Cowboys game. I know it's harsh, but that's how much I dispise the fact that he is our starting QB. I would like to see them bring in Campbell, but I don't care if they bring in the one armed drummer from Def Leopard- as long as Brunell isn't quarterbacking our team.

I would like to see Tim here as well. Wonder what people will be saying when Brunell throws for 4 TD Monday?

Hold on a second, you panic-stricken Skins fans. Just because Ramsey wants to be traded doesn't mean he will be. My guess is that he plays for the Skins again before the year is out. Either way, I would really like to see things work out for him. He seems like a good guy and I still believe he can be a solid QB.

Anyone who wants to go with a rookie is throwing the towel in on the season. Give Campbell a year (or more) on the bench.

better now, than in a year or two when we actually might be contenders. My 2 cents

Buzz Dog...I appreciate your concern. But speaking for myself...Im not panicking.

I want Ramsey to succedd here as well....but
Ask yourself, how long do you wait for Patricks potential to evolve?

After 1 game, Hellhog??? Against the dreaded Cowpies???? At Dallas??? Joe may be old, and Campbell IS our QB of the future, but Joe ain't a fool. On the other hand, I can't say the same about Bradshaw, that loveable goon.

I would have to agree and say he was snatched to fast! But a valid point that keeps coming up...are the turn overs! How long does it take, or how long should Gibbs wait to see if Ramsey will ever develop the poise thats needed to stop the turnovers?

Thats all Im saying...

I'm for playing the kid now. Our O-line is healthy (but for Jansen's thumbs... oouch). Portis is better than ever. We have a TE and an HB healthy. I like our WR's and our D is the best in the NFL... could there be a better time to break a kid in?

Oh yeah, and we've just destoyed any possibility of Ramsey ever becoming a successful Redskin at any point in the future.

To wish or hope one of our players get's hurt or injured is completely absurd. That in my opinion is a terrible thing to say and does not contribute much positive relative to the topic.

I happen to think he would be more turnover prone than Ramsey against a first-string NFL defense, at this early stage of his career, on account of his throwing mechanics.

During the preseason, I he had at least two turnovers, on account of his sloooooooow release.

Give #8 a shot, let Ramsey back him up, go to #17 if the Brunell/Ramsey experiment takes us out of the playoffs.

Keep in mind, people. We are undefeated this season. Philly can't say that. The high octane Rams can't boast of that. Let's give it some time and let Joe complete his second year of coaching por favor.

We just might have a Big Ben sitting there right before our very on eyes.

Campbell did have a slow release but I followed Ben last year in some of his starts and he didnt look good as well.

There is no way the redskins can win with only 70 passing yards a game and that is what Brunell givs them. If Campbell goes in we have a chance to win and our future gets experience. I say play Campbell.

g4pm, that would be one of the best nights i will ever have, no joke.

as far as campbell goes, i think he needs to sit back and learn the system. he didnt get EXTENSIVE playing time in the preseason, and i think if he can work with the offense in practice and especially run the scout team (IMO, one of th emost beneficial things for a qb is to run the scout team, beaucse then he learns to read his own defenses and learn wrinkles in other teams' playbooks and apply them to help him learn his own...complicated logic, but it makes sense to me :-)) against our defense. if he can live in practice against our D, then i say start him. if he can go through a whole Team Practice (11on11) without making stupid mistakes against our defense, then i say start him. until then, let him sit and learn and run drills in practice. do NOT make the same mistake we did with ramsey by throwing him in the fire. part of the reason brunell was brought in was to provide immense knowledge and experience that can teach things you can't teach out of a book. let campbell learn that, then we'll see about starting him. but i am officially NOT on the "start campbell" bandwagon...yet :-)
Sean, may you always rest in peace and look down on us with the same love that we look up to you.

Hail to the Redskins!
