Talk about the Washington Football Team here. Do you bleed burgundy and gold?

Czabe's about face on 980

Post by mcg1075 »

Was anyone was listening to yesterday's postgame show or today's "Monday Morning QB" on Sportstalk 980? Everyone on 980, including Czabe, seem to all be in favor of Gibbs reinserting Mark Brunell as the starting QB. As I recall last year, the 980 crew constantly bashed Brunell, and went as far as to insert a laugh track whenever they played a segment of Gibbs talking about how wonderful a job Brunell was doing. Earlier this year, I had read in the DC City Paper that Gibbs was trying to move his show to another station this year because of Czabe and Andy Pollin's irreverant bashing of Brunell and other decisions that Gibbs had made throughout the 2004. Now I heard that Bram Weinstein has replaced Czabe on Gibbs' Monday show. Do you think that the 980 crew has been instructed by Clear Channel to lay off the Brunell bashing in order to appease Gibbs?

No, brunell looks better this year. I'll admit it, I booed and hissed along with everyone else when he played, but from what I've seen his arm is back and is more mobile then last year.

I don't think it went as high as Clear Channel making the decision for 980. I think it was to a degree humbling enough to get snubbed by Gibbs to get Pollie and Czabe to lay off. After all... Bram "Frickin'" Weinstein (yes, of the horrible "Bram Weinstein Show") interviewing our HOF coach!!!!????? That would certainly make someone rethink their on-air antics and realize how great they HAD it.

On a related note: It is extremely hypocritical for Czabe and cre to all of sudden just say "I'm sorry" and expect to right all the wrong they did a year ago. Frankly, they disrespected Joe Gibbs, the man, and to regain the trust Joe perceived he had with those clowns won't be easy.

Not to say they can't root for my man #8, but to hear them sing the praises at this point is downright laughable.

Perhaps they were a little too harsh on Gibbs last year, but I do appreciate that we have some objective reporting and analysis (or did until last Sunday)- as opposed to George Michael tossing softball after softball question at Gibbs and Danny Boy. I've followed the Redskins for almost 25 years, and I've noticed during that time that Gibbs doesn't tolerate second guessing from the media. I even remember him almost getting into a shouting match with the late, great Glenn Brenner when he had asked why he would not consider replacing an ineffective Joe Theismann with Jay Schroeder (if you were following the team back in '85 you would know that Brenner was right). He was so peeved with Brenner that he moved his TV show and Monday appearances to Channel 4.
