McCants

Post by BossHog »

Personally i think the chances of DM getting a new contract just went up. I think Gibbs will really like his size and his ability to catch nothing but tough balls and touchdowns.

Gardner will really have to sharpen up if he expects to keep starting.... no mental errors will be condoned.

A big possession receiver used to play when Gibbs was here before and he managed to do pretty well... his name was Art Monk. He didn't have track speed either but all he manged to do was become the best WR in Redskin history.

I'm not comparing DM, just saying I think Joe will want to keep him around.

:feedback;

It's like we're on the same wavelength, Boss. I loved watching "The Posse" light it up...and I think that with Coles, McCants, and Gardner/Jacobs/whoever, could be pretty formidable. I love a receiver who can go accross the middle and make the catch after a safety blasts him...and McCants has been doing just that. Gardner has had trouble just making the catch...but maybe with the right leadership, we can milk the most potential out of Gardner, Jacobs, and the rest of our receiver core. Things are look'n pretty "nice" in Redskins land.

Coles and Ramsey were untouchable when we went 3 and 1... and that was with Patrick getting pummelled.

Wait until those big boys up front start playing smashmouth gibbs ball and protecting P-Ram long enough for him to count mississippi's.

I wonder if there's a happier group of Redskin players than the offensive line?

My perfect scenario: McCants, Coles, and Gardener all catch TD's in Dallas. After the last TD, our offense re-enacts the Fun Bunch on the star in the middle of the field. I'll pay the fine if they do that.

LOL

I would rather see his avatar as a ref standing in the endzone signalling a touchdown for him...

I bet Gibbs could have made something of Michael Westbrook too. I'm not asking for him back, just saying that there has been some potential talent lost in the Skins organization over the years that Joe Gibbs probably could have turned into superstar talent!

Welcome aboard psummersjr! :)

So true - and think about some of the others... it makes ya wanna cry sometimes. I think this is one of the hidden strengths of JG, in that he knows people and how to deal with them and all their quirks to get the best out of each individual and then meld them into the best team he can.

there were a lot of big if's and could be's over the last 11 years. but, with joe here again, we at least have the ship headed in the right direction.

Of course, I'm not sure my statement applies to some of the receivers Spurrier brought in and I'm not a Spurrier hater either. I just don't think the likes of Chris Doering are good enough for the NFL.[/i]

Maybe so, maybe no... some of the ones Marty brought in weren't very good either, by NFL standards.

But there have been players that have been wasted then sent off to other teams to prosper - and those are the ones I wince about and curse the salary cap everytime I do think about them....

Gibbs will do well with what he has - or he will change to make sure he does...

Too familiar over the last 11 years - I got really tired of seeing our record over the last 11 years up on the ESPNews screen last night ::grin:: I didn't need to be reminded

Darnerien would also like Coach Gibbs autograph according to his interviews yesterday...I think he'll get that. ::Smiles::

I agree that they should keep McCants, but does anyone think he could supplant Gardner as the #2 thus making Rod trade bait? Taylor Jacobs has the speed to be the #3 and McCants and Gardner have very similar builds and games. Yet McCants holds on to the ball better.

I'm not sure how much bait Gardner is, but I do agree that McCants has to be given more touches and that he should be at least given a chance at the #2 position.

If we can re-sign him, it will be to a #3 receiver level of contract so it would be even more cost effective if he moved up a slot.

I think he has tons of upside, tons of heart, and will flourish under Saint Gibbs.

Could these guys be the new 'Posse'? Just the possibility is exciting. Do you think JG could have done something with Heath Shuler?

I am in total agreement about McCants. This is the guy we'd see Ramsey heave it up to when he was in deep s***. He always seems to be in traffic and never seemed to do too much flinching.

The other thing I like about Darnerian is that he can do the opposite in this offense that Warren & Didier served in the 1980's, 1990's. When they came in, the offensive motion would send them wide, dragging linebackers with them. A guy like McCants, instead, could be the third or even fourth WR on the field, forcing the defense to bring in DBs...and instead of expanding the field of play, you can bring guys like McCants and Gardener in and contract the field, putting defensive backs from other teams in harm's way.

Gibbs used to LOVE pulling crap like that on other teams.

Keep McCants, maybe trade Gardner. McCants makes more big plays with less playing time.

Anyone have a feel how good Jacobs can be this year?

Does anyone think that it is possible for someone to give up a high second pick for Gardner? Because Gardner is a bum

You know, it's really unfortunate. I liked Gardner when we first signed him. I thought he would be a dominating possession-type of receiver over the middle. Does he have the skills to do that? Absolutely. Has he done it yet? Absolutely not!

Until he improves, I am 100% in favor of McCants becoming our #2 receiver. The kid has earned it.
