Lions invite Law to meet, work out

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Lions invite Law to meet, work out

By Mike O'Hara / The Detroit News
ALLEN PARK -- The Lions have resumed their courtship of cornerback Ty Law.

Law, a free agent released by New England in February after 10 seasons and three Super Bowl championships, will meet with the Lions' management and coaching staff today.

"He's going to take a physical and work out," Lions vice president Bill Keenist said Sunday night.

Law visited the Lions earlier in the offseason but did not sign or work out. He made the Pro Bowl four times with New England and holds the franchise record with 36 career interceptions. When healthy, Law is considered one of the NFL's toughest and most aggressive pass defenders.

Law, 31, was New England's first-round draft choice in 1995 out of Michigan and is recovering from a broken left foot suffered in the seventh game of the 2004 season.

In recent interviews, Law has expressed confidence that he will be in top shape in September.

Law also has indicated that he wants a substantial contract and that he wants to play for a contending team. The New York Jets have been mentioned as the top choice.

The Lions already have signed two free-agent defensive backs -- Kenoy Kennedy of Denver, who will start at strong safety, and R.W. McQuarters, who has experience at free safety and cornerback and as a return specialist
