I'll throw my draft opinions out there....

Post by JPM36 »

.....because it seems like every other jerk on the internet has.

1. Carlos Rogers is going to be a very good cornerback. He will be a Pro Bowl player and he seems to be perfectly suited for Gregg Williams' defense. I think there will be days when we wish we had taken Mike Williams, but all in all I think this was an excellent selection that filled a major need.

2. Jason Campbell is obviously going to make or break this draft. If he turns out to be Quincy Carter or someone of his ilk then people will have more reason to criticize the Redskins organization. However, if he turns out to be a franchise QB then this trade will prove to be a steal. There isn't a team in the NFL that would not trade a 1st, 3rd, and 4th round draft choices for a franchise QB. My gut feeling on Campbell is that he is going to be very good. He is the prototypical size, has the mobility that is all the rage in today's NFL, has a good arm, and clearly has the intangibles to win (which he proved by navigating Auburn to an undefeated record in the best conference in college football.) I see Campbell blossoming into a borderline Pro Bowl player. He and Clinton Portis are about the same age and together they should give us a formidable backfield for years to come.

3. I'll skip ahead to the 5th round and Robert McCune because I frankly have no opinion on Manuel White, don't know anything about the guy. I think McCune would have been a first day selection had he been younger. I see him pushing Holdman for the MLB job and being a great team player. He sounds like the type of guy who could be captain of the special teams unit someday. I am really high on this pick.

4. Manuel White, Jared Newberry, Nehemiah Broughton... If any of these guys end up contributing it's gravy in my mind. White seems to have the best chance of the 3 to be a contributor this year and he should see some action in the backfield.

5. The Redskins are getting low draft grades from the so-called "experts" because they rolled the dice on Campbell. These experts will give high draft grades to whichever team drafts the players they like. Frankly, their opinions (and mine) don't mean a damn thing. I just can't wait till they go back and grade the drafts 3 years from now. I think we'll end up with much higher marks than we're getting now. In Carlos Rogers and Jason Campbell (and Sean Taylor), Joe Gibbs has brought 3 potentially great players to the Redskins organization with his first 3 #1 picks. What more can you ask for than that?

I agree about Carlos Rodgers and he should earn the starting spot. White and Nemo will be projects. McCune could be a steal

Jason Campbell seems to have a lot of people confused, then again alot of those who say they are "in the know" understand the pick, but hate "the Danny" so much they would never print the truth.

Campbell was selected with next year's pick so do we compare him to the QBs coming out next year?....
The trade cost a 3rd this year and a 4th rounder next year. This is what people have trouble with. This same group is not looking at next year's QB crop.

Hasselbeck is gone, Brunell is on the slow boat but it's heading out, if Ramsey choose not to re-sign, and Jason wasn't drafted this year, where are we next off-season?

Very good point.
