Tennessee Titans first-round pick Adam “Pacman” Jones is scheduled to appear in a Georgia courtroom Friday for a hearing involving an alleged battery charge in the early morning hours of April 27, charges Jones’ agent says are not true.
Jones, the sixth overall choice by the Titans in last month’s draft, is set for a 1:45 p.m. EDT hearing in DeKalb County Magistrate Court in Decatur, Ga., along with his accuser, Andrea Akins. A judge is expected to rule whether an arrest warrant should be issued in the case.
Michael Huyghue, who recently replaced Gary Wichard as Jones’ agent, said the allegations against the cornerback are completely false. He also said it is possible that a plaintiff would not even appear at the Friday court date.
“Apparently an allegation was made and later withdrawn. I don’t believe this has much validity. This is a non-incident,” Huyghue said. “And if there is a court proceeding on Friday, I think you’ll see that there’s really nothing to this.”
Tennessee Titans officials declined comment on the matter.
According to an incident report filed with police, two females, identified as Akins and Shaguana Jackson, were observed by two police officers fighting next to the front door of Club Blaze, 3458 Moreland Ave., in Conley, Ga., at around 3 a.m.
Akins, who said in the report she worked at Club Blaze, was handcuffed after becoming “loud and boisterous,” after which Jackson also became loud and boisterous and was also handcuffed.
Akins, according to the report, told police she was punched in the mouth by the suspect (who is not specifically named in the report but believed to be Jackson), who was there with “a pro football player who goes by Pacman.” Jones is a native of the Atlanta area.
One unidentified witness said Jackson was the person who assaulted Akins, according to the incident report. Akins denied that Jackson was the person who assaulted her. However, Jones’ name is listed on the issuance for the warrant that is scheduled for Friday.
Another witness, identified as Kevin Brown, told police the suspect was there with Jones, identified only on the police report as “Pacman.”
Word of an alleged incident involving Jones began to surface via an Internet report from the Web site profootballtalk.com on Tuesday.
Akins, contacted by The City Paper by telephone, laughed when asked for comment regarding the matter, then said she was busy and asked if the reporter could call back later.
Repeated telephone messages to Atlanta-based attorney Emerson Carey Jr., who is representing Akins in the matter, were not returned.
One witness listed on the incident report as Kevin Rydell refused to speak about the incident when contacted by The City Paper.
Police did observe a small cut on Akins’ face when questioning her, but the report said she refused to be seen by emergency medical personnel.
