Apr. 20 - Don't rush Rod Gardner out the door. Though the Redskins have been shopping him the entire offseason, they haven't had the right takers and Joe Gibbs may just keep him around, according to ESPN.com's John Clayton. Gardner is a former first-rounder and has value. Though the Redskins' phone will be open on draft day for a team that doesn't get its receiver, expect Gibbs to call Gardner into his office and convince him how valuable he is to stay a Redskin. That shouldn't be too much of a problem. Expect Gardner, Santana Moss and David Patten to be the Redskins' three receivers next season barring any last-minute surprises.
John Clayton seems to think so. I hope not though.
I think we are going to package Rod Gardner and the first round pick we got from Denver for a stud player and draft picks. Or possibly trade our pick with Gardner and keep the Denver pick.

If hes back i wouldn't be surprised that he will be 4th string under Moss, Patten, Thrash. And thats if we don't get a WR in our first pick. So hes better off begging the Gods of Football to get him a trade

That could be it, but if I'm Gibbs I'd tell Rod extend with the team we trade you to or else you won't be active for any games this year, (ala D. McCants last year), and see how valuable you are as a free agent next year.
"I never apologize. I'm sorry but that's just the way I am."
I'm saying this once again.....Gardner should be back next year. He's not going to interest anyone and we're going to end up keeping him.
.....but what do i know.....
"I was on the sideline and guys were talking about the score, and then it hit me -- we won by 21. I came in the locker room and I yelled it out, and immediately I just kind of broke down in tears. Because I miss Sean, you know."
The relationship between the organization and Fitty is strained as many have stated. The thing that bothers me about this "cat"...He is a follower of bad characters...He wants to listen and be like Coles...and the rest of these money hungry "me first" ballers.
"It's almost like, you play a kid's game for a king's ransom," he said. "And if you don't take it serious enough, eventually one day you're going to say, 'Oh, I could have done this, I could have done that."

why on earth would we keep gardner? he is currently the worst wide receiver on the team. those saying he will be 4th string behind moss, patten, and thrash, are forgetting about taylor jacobs and darnerian mccants. even if we DID keep gardner, i am quite confident jacobs will be higher than him on the depth chart. i think gibbs wants to give him a chance to develop.
the bottom line is he is just clogging up precious cap space right now. if we can't trade him, he NEEDS to be cut so we can make room for some players who don't suck.

Gardner is still probably the second best receiver on our team... Patten may be better... but Gardner is better than Thrash, Mccants and Jacobs....
People, Gardner is a bust only based on where he was drafted... but he is still a very servicable WR.... He has posted a 1,000 yard season before...
all of this praise is coming from someone that doesn't particularly like gardner...
See right now I'm on lettuce... Pretty soon I'll be on fries... After that.. The grill... And after that... Comes Assistant. Manager.... and That's When the Big Bucks roll in!
If he does come back, what for??? If we do keep our draft pix in the first round, we'll get a CB and probably a WR with the 25th pick...why would we want to draft a 1st round WR and keep Gardener along with Moss and Patten and McCants
Thank you chico's... I agree, Rod is not the greatest player, but he is good. The whole dropping passes thing is a disease throughout the NFL. There's not a team that doesn't have this problem.
Even the Eagles drop a ton of passes, yet they made it to the SuperBowl last year. Rod is an above average WR and should bring in a 3rd round draft pick.
If he stays on the team, and falls to fourth on the depth chart, his value will drop considerably. I expect Rod to be on another team next year, with a deal for him going down on draft day. If we can get a player + additional picks now, why wait?
