When People Rather Not Work For Their Money

If you'd rather not work for a living just sue! That's the way to go!!

A few years ago my mother was involved in a car accident. My mother and sister were fine, the car was damaged but not totaled, as was the car of the woman who she hit. This woman walked away under her own power... BUT her husband (we assume) was taking pictures of the "victim" and the accident after it happened.

Like I said this woman walked away under her own power and showed no signs of injury, but they sure did put on a show.

Years later (approximately a month before the statute of limitations kicks in) this woman decides that she's hit the gold mine and decides to sue my mother (mother of two with both kids in college starting next fall).

She claims that she's "disabled" and "unfit" to work... why do people pull this stuff? Don't people understand there's no free lunch??

I hope our insurance company sends mom a good lawyer to rip apart this lady's selfish and uncredible story :(

Chances are your insurance company will offer a settlement to the maximum of the policy limits. That's why people do this...because insurance companies are pushovers....and they'll just pass off the cost to us lowly consumers anyway.

I took an insurance settlement once. It wasn't a huge one. But I was pregnant with Jackson and we were on the belt way. A big truck hit our car from behind. The seat belt was tight across my belly (ie Jackson) and he hit us with pretty good force. Which shocked us because we were in quite heavy traffic. To make a long story short, I jumped out of the car and ran to make sure the other guy was ok. That's just the kind of person I am. Well afterwards I became very worried about myself. There was bumper to bumper traffic and we were on the side of 495. To the gentleman who hit us I'm sure I appeared fine. I was however not sure I was fine. Scott and I drove to the hospital in Annapolis because it was the closest one we were familiar with. I took hours and hours for them to feel like I was ok, and even then I was told there were no guarentees, ultrasounds don't catch everything. The following week I was hounded by this gentleman's insurance company. They wanted me to sign a paper saying I'd accept a small settlement. Mind you, I didn't even ask for one. The guy automatically heard I visited the hospital and assumed it was going to be asked for. In the end Scott and I consulted a lawyer who advised us to take the money. And I'm very glad we did. From that point on my pregnancy was extremely rocky and I'm not even sure the settlement covered all the copays I had to pay. I visited the dr alot and ended up staying in the hospital on two seperate occasions. I also ended up delivering Jackson via emergency c section. The drs never could figure out why all of this happened. And I consider myself lucky that he was born healthy. But goodness knows if I'd have waited I'd have asked for more. And I guarentee you to the guy in the truck who hit us, he would have thought I was just fine. I'm not saying it's not the case with this lady your mom hit, I am merely suggesting you conisder the possibility.
