Whispers: Portis a Problem?
Here we go.....
Whispers: Portis a Problem?
By John Keim Warpath Insiders
Date: Apr 5, 2005
The Redskins' offseason manueverings haven't impressed others around the league. At least one team executive, while confident in coach Joe Gibbs, was uncertain where the Redskins were headed.
How will Portis act if he has another subpar year?
One thing he doesn't like is Clinton Portis as a teammate. Though no rumblings have come out of the Redskins' locker room about him, more than a few around the league view him as possible trouble. That hasn't happened yet, but some are waiting to see how he handles another year like last year.
Those aren't the only things some don't like.
''They've had no plan and no patience and I hear they don't have any confidence in Patrick Ramsey,'' he said. ''And they said a year ago that they had a three-year plan and now they can't even get it into Year Two. . . . The guy they brought in from Jacksonville [Bill Musgrave] is no guru. He got fired from there and he quit in Carolina and his offense was not innovative. I've got a feeling this thing isn't going right.''
. . . But don't expect the players to hang their heads after the departure of Fred Smoot. At least one defensive player liked what he saw in Garnell Wilds last season -- and this person likes Walt Harris as a starter, too.
This defender called Wilds a ''playmaker'' and was confident he could be a capable nickelback this season. That is, if the Redskins don't draft a corner.
. . . According to NFLdraftscout.com, the Redskins are interested in San Diego State outside linebacker Matt McCoy, likely in the fifth or sixth round. He's expected to visit Redskins Park soon.

This just sounds like its all due to a slow news cycle, and is all "what if" scenarios. Portis should be the happiest guy on the team this year because they signed Rabach, and he will get Jansen back. I do believe that Portis was frustrated at times last year, but I won't believe that he's a cancer to the locker room just out of speculation by a "team executive".

This thing turned the corner to stupidity when it downgraded Bill Musgrave's record.
He has developed some of the most prolific and accurate passers in both the NFL and College.
He turned Matt Schuab into the ACC's most efficient passer throwing for 70 percent, he's worked with Steve Young and a host of others...that is the dumbest thing he could have said

Help!
I dont know if thats your normal SIG...but no offense taking. I copied and pasted the article word for word. But I too was a little lost on the way the article was worded. But the link is there.

Vague, vague, vague. One "team executive" (I'm assuming the Skins and not from around the league [as the sentece before mentions]) is "uncertain" about "where the Redskins are headed."
Portis is definitely headed for trouble. Well, no one in the locker room has said anything. . .yet. And, yeah, there aren't any signs of it happening. But what if he has another 1,300 yard season? Will the team be able to handle the humanity of it all?!?!
Stay tuned to find out, I guess.
Thanks for posting, Skinna Mob. At least we can all know that if this is the worst criticism of the Skins at this point, then we're probably in good shape.

Since when is 1315 yds rushing subpar. Considering that we had absolutely no passing game getting 1315 on the season is pretty damn good. After all he did finish 8th in rushing.

why do we want an outside linebacker when we got arrington and washington and and lemar can still fill the hole in case of injury...also if were thinkin of using him for depth I dont like the idea we could use depth at some other positions more
" But you should've seen Joe (Gibbs) when they said he couldn't coach anymore...his chest puffed out and said..i dont care what it takes, were not leaving here without another ring." Coach Joe Bugel
The only thing subpar was our offensive line and Portis got 1,315 yards out of that, he even missed a game and was hardly used in the Steelers game. So Portis played about 14 games and got 1315 yards and finished 8th in the top rushers. I admit its his carrer low and his ypc were low also, but yards are more important, look at the Bus. Portis had plenty of time to complain and like others, but he didnt. I guess he wants to stay and do better next season. This article is nothing more than a horrible attempt to stir some doubt in people.
Clinton Portis 2005-2006 Season tracker
352 carries 1516 yards 11 TDs
30 receptions 216 yards 0 TDs
1/2 17 yards 1 TD 118.8
352 carries 1516 yards 11 TDs
30 receptions 216 yards 0 TDs
1/2 17 yards 1 TD 118.8
I know John Keim (he was a reporter at the paper I used to work for) and he is a worthless reporter. That is nothing but unfounded speculation and it is irresponsible. Plus, apparently Clinton doesn't like himself:
"How will Portis act if he has another subpar year?
One thing he doesn't like is Clinton Portis as a teammate."
I'd like to know how he got that scoop.

RIP Sean Taylor
It reminds me of bad office gossip. Kind of a Cabin Fever mentality if you will. The off-season is long, boring and someone is just trying to stir the pot for something to do. There's nothing to talk about because very little is going on and it's all been said before, so why not make something new up just for kicks.
Jansen on his broken thumbs:
"It’s limited me in some ways but has been beneficial in others. It’s like I have a couple of clubs on my hands. I just have to hit people with them."

I hope he has another subpar year also, and yes this is sensational journalism at it's best - it really says absolutely nothing!

1. Nothing has happened....
