Running game

I've seen a lot of posts recently about how our recievers might struggle and how we don't have a legit #1 guy. One thing I think everyone is overlooking is our running game. With jansen coming back and rauback being signed, we have really improved on our line. A line that was able to give portis 1400 yards last year. Improving on that by even 200 yards would be a great help to our recievers.

Having a dominant run game is what can really help turn ok recievers into great ones. I bet you deep down inside , Harrison is more thankful of james than peyton. (maybe a stretch but you get my point)

Running the ball opens up the recievers. With our athletic guys I think we will take step forward in the offense, not a step back like many think

I understand what you're saying, and what was pointed out to me is that if Ramsey can't complete passes than we're going to get 8 guys in the box like last year. Clinton isn't a pounding back won't last the entire season. I believe it hinges moreso on Ramsey.

Our offense should be better just because of the fact that Brunell wont see the field.

It would be nice if we could find a BIG short yardage back, someone who could consistantly get the 1-2 yards needed for a first down and for puching it in at the goal line. The Redskins need to improve in this area. Last year we were 70 out of 221 or 31.7% in 3rd down attempts that was 28 in the league. This is an obvious area we need to improve.

Why does a short yardage back have to be huge???? Emmit Smith and Marcus Allen were some of the best short yardage backs in the history of the game. A back like Portis has enough power to get the 1 or 2 yards BUT more importantly he is quick enough to run off center or sweeps.

Plus he can catch out of the backfield. Those big bruising backs never seem to be as effective as the back that got you to the short yardage situation.

Everyone Portis will be an excellent short yardage back. CASE CLOSED. And some people want to bring in Davenpart or gasp!!! Ron Dayne! Give me a break. :roll:

Gt Natale... I'm undecided about bringing in a short yardage back, but wouldn't it be a good chance to get Portis some rest... those short yardage situations put a lot of wear and tear on RBs

You cannot forget about Ladell Betts either. He has shown some great potential in his limited action. He's not a huge guy, but I like his ability.

Plus I think Portis is tougher than his size. Maybe a big type back in the later rounds of the Draft.

ey has enough to do as resident H-back/TE without having the additional responsibilities of a short-yardage back.
I'm not conviced we're at a loss herre at that position, although there are some very nice choices out there yet.
With the return of Jansen and the new center...our problems along those lines might go away on their own.

Right with you on that Bernie. If Rock can't bulk back up to repeat his rookie season then he has to go. We haven't had a good short yardage back since Gerald Riggs. I see a late round pick up here.

Other than that we should be set with Portis, Betts and a healthy Morton. Jansen and our new center will also help. POUND THAT BALL !!!

H-back is a cross between a FB and a TE. This would come under the FB part of that role.

I think with the fact that we patched out the O-Line to block ever better... ANd we got two wide reciever threats... There will be less people in the box, and ramsey will have more yards.
That all depends if Ramsey can complete those long passes

For the goal-line, or other typical short-yardage situations, his job would be to assist in tying up the ends or helping to maintain the hole. That's a fairly large and very important role all by itself. You want short yardage on the ground ? Let the H-back do his own job, and leave the rushing to a true RB/FB.
