Deep breath......

Over and over again... Danny gets the finger pointed at him when things go bad... but he never gets credit when things go good.....

1999..... After Buying the franchise for $800 million.....He basically had nothing to do with this season..... he came aboard late..... and sat back and watched.... After 5 horrible seasons under Turner, he finally brings us to the playoffs,... and lost...

things are going good right?

2000..... Danny get's his hands wet......We draft Lavar, Samuals (players that a lot of us love, and have done well for us at times), sign Carrier, Bruce Smith, Sanders, George, etc.... Our season we start off 6-2.... then Norv goes and blows the next 4 out of 5... Our seasons done....... Danny has had enough... he get's rid of Norv... after going into the playoffs once in 7 years..... can't say I blame him.... But one note... our Defense was #4 that year.... Lavar, Smith, Carrier, Sanders...guys Danny brought on, had a part in that....

2001..... Danny wants Spurrier.... he won't come out from college.. (yet).....He brings on Shotty...and gives him whatever he wants....McCants,Smoots drafted(players that alot of us love, and have done well for us at times).... Danny wanted Santana Moss.... we got Gardner.... we sign Tony Banks... another Shotty guy ..... The season starts off boring & horrible, we lose the first 5 games....and almost lose the 6th game when Lavar turns it around.. a guy Danny brought on.... we win the next 5 games... only to go 8-8 on the season....

So some of you say we should never have let go of Shotty..... why? He goes to San Diego... has 2 horrible seasons and was on the chopping block for his job.... they draft a rookie QB last year to basically start over again.... and Drew Brees finally feels threatened and pulls his head out of his keaster....and leads his team to the playoffs.... if this Shotty's doing or Brees'? Everyone has there own opinion....mine is that it was Brees who drove that team....

2002.... Danny has a decision to stick through another boring Shotty season... probably with Tony Banks again.... Spurrier says he wants in.... a very successful college coach... Jimmy Johnson has done it... why not Spurrier.....no one has a crystal ball around... so they decide to take a chance to get a decade long losing franchise back to winning again..... he pulls the trigger.....and basically gives Spurrier control... who then signs the entire university of Florida.... but also Danny brings on Trotter, Armstead and Marvin Lewis to coach them....... and drafts Patrick Ramsey (player that a lot of us love, and have done well for us at times) because at the time we needed a QB of the future... and we all new Matthew & Wurffel(sp?) weren't gonna be that guy...

The season stinks once again...all the offensive guys Spurrier brings in stink... the only bright spot is Patrick.... Danny's Guy..... Trotter goes down, Armstead has a great year, and Marvin Lewis keeps our Defense at 5th in the league... guys Danny brought on.....

2003.... Gives Spurrier chance #2... drafts Taylor Jacobs, and goes out and signs Matt Bowen, John Hall, Randy Thomas, Lav Coles (players that a lot of us love or use to love :), and have done well for us at times).... Marvin Lewis leaves and Spurrier brings in his guy to coach the D.... Season goes to hell.....as usual, mostly do to our offense can't block a fly because of Spurrier and his blocking scheme or lack there of..... our defense goes all the way to 25th... yippee.... everything's going swell.... for a losing team.....

2004.... Danny decides to get his hands wet again... tells Spurrier to change around his staff because the 25th ranked defense is just not cutting it, right? ......but still is willing to give Spurrier a shot... Spurrier quits.... So what does Danny do? Goes out and signs the only guy no one ever thought would come back.... Joe Gibbs.....

We're are all shocked... and full with glee....

Joe & Danny get together and bring on Greg Williams...... we lose a top CB in Bailey, but in return we get guys like Portis, Washington, Griffen, Thrash, Daniels, Springs, bring back Pierce who almost left for Minnesota.... and Joe, Greg & Danny draft Sean Taylor, Chris Cooley, and a couple of big O-lineman....(all players that a lot of us love, and have done well for us at times)

The season goes to yuck... but we're still fighting for a playoff spot. with 2 games left in the season... thanks to the awful NFC.....we crash and burn, mostly because of our offense.... but who's to blame on that? Gibbs said it himself... he is.... yet our defense is back on top better than ever and competed for the top spot all year, before ending up at #3 overall

--------

Now we sit here in 2005.... and reflect..... Danny's biggest problem in the past has been his over spending...... but that doesn't mean we over spent on poor players.... just that we over spent....... so Danny & Joe decide they're not going to do that anymore...... we lose Smoot & Pierce... and all of a sudden everybody's ready.....what's wrong..... were do I point this finger.... I know.... it's Danny... it's Danny... he's ruining this franchise....

The same franchise that sat around before Danny got here, that had 6 years of playing kick-ball better than they played football.... I don't remember a lot about those teams... because they just weren't very good... defense or offense.... those 6 years of drafts..... we got Stephen Davis..... and that's it........

yet since Danny's been here... our Defense has ranked amongst the best almost every year.... and he's relied on his head coaches... to make the offense work.... and they've failed us, up to this point....

So before we all throw in the towel on Danny and get our index fingers filled with silicone to make them bigger and harder to point... think about who your pointing at....

I'd rather have an owner who tries and fails, and learns from his mistakes.... than one who doesn't try at all, and learns nothing at all..... My 2 cents....

No one says Danny Boy don't try.

He just don't learn from his mistakes.

Well said, and well-reasoned. You're never going to persuade those folks who insist on a scapegoat, but it's hard to argue with the evidence you've presented.

That is a damn good post. I am actually glad we have an owner like Snyder. He wants to win and will do everything in his power to provide the coaches and the organization with all the support they could have. Seriously, would you guys rather have an owner that stays 30 million under the cap every year and fields a bunch of players that are barely NFL caliber?

I'm still kind of stunned about all the negativity that the media has been lashing out today. Don't get me wrong, the media slams us all the time. But they are going way overboard with this crap. I don't think losing Smoot and Pierce is all that bad. I liked Smoot's character. I wish he would have stayed, but I don't think he'll be that hard to replace. As for Pierce, I wish he would have stayed, but I don't think he'll be hard to replace either. As for the Coles and Moss trade, I'm for it. It sucks to take a cap hit now, but we should be in better shape cap wise in the future and we got rid of piss poor character in Coles. I think Moss has the potential to be a great playmaker.
Let us all gather around and drink the Cooley-Aid of the Redskins.

As much as i dislike the guy,id rather have an owner like snyder who tries to win than a guy like the Vikings owner who sits on 24 mil every season and doesn't try to help the team win.

Great post. I agree with you 100%. Danny loves the 'Skins just like we do. He is doing what he thinks is right.
Also, great to finally read a thread about something other than Moss/Coles/Smoot/C*** 'Skins.

Good Post. Danny runs the team like a fan...the same way any of us would have if we came into a cabillion dollars. Of course you would assume that a collection of all pros would make a good team, but it takes time to learn that continutity is just as essential to success as good players...i for one think we have learned that important lesson, so no matter who we've lost so far, I understand that the season will be one or lost in the fall, not spring.

Good Post

I'm still on the fence with Danny..I've never been one to bash him. I don't give him credit for Gibbs, Gibbs came back because he wanted to. You know Danny gave him a open invitation to return to the team at anytime he wanted. Also I still don't understand Vinny?? I still want a football guy (a GM) and would like to see Danny back off a little. But I understand your post, I think Danny is doing what most of us here would do if we owned the team. Good post BTP!

We were off to a great start that year and injuries killed us.

First Westbroke went down then Tra Johnson then Stephen Davis.

The losses came because we did not have quality depth we spent it on Overpriced players(OPP).

I know in my heart, that if it weren't for those injuries, we were on our way to the Superbowl My 2 cents

Good post.

Good post BTP! Something happened overnite! All of a sudden we get some incredible threads and posts going.

This is part of the reason that we all enjoy this site so much.

This IS about the Redskins but we also have a lot of very knowlegeable and insightful posters.

Some good posts but this is very good, thanks BTP!
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Good analysis, BTP. The Snyder bashing will stop when we win, but I think that you're right in that no one will be giving him any credit when we do.

Great Post. But I still hate Danny Boy because of week three at Dallas when I went to the game. I've explained this beofre. Basically, I paid over $200 for what the ticket said was row 1, endzone, but was actually row four because of Danny's "dream seats" Also, if any of you bought the yearbook thing this season, he put himself on page 1, right before Gibbs and Buges, which made me angry.

I agree with evrything said, but I still hate him, but I am glad he's trying.

And you have to love that one year he put a patch on the jersey for his daddy.

(I know it's his dad and all, but what friggin' connection did that guy have for the 'Skins? This also happened to be the year after the Cowboys had the Landry hat on their unis. Wonder where Danny Boy got the idea?)

Actually he helped Dan run every business he ever ran... mortgaged his own house to help Dan keep his magazine running at one point... wrote all the articles for THAT magazine... then served as Editor in Chief for Snyder Communications that Dan and his sister Michele ran. So all he did was support his children to help them realize their dreams. And when snyder went public with the communication company he made millions and millions of dollars... as did Gerald as a share holder. He used that money to help DS originally buy the team. So he was a co-owner.

Some might consider that a connection.

And some might consider your post pretty ignorant.

I'll stand up for Snyder any day of the week! He's made mistakes - he's entitled. Dijon Sanders screwed Snyder more than any player. Marty screwed himself as did Spurrier. The fact that Joe Gibbs is back is proof enough that Snyder is a good guy. No way Gibbs agrees to come back otherwise - simply no way.
The haters will always be there, but I'm a fan of the Danny!

Nice post,BTP. I agree with you about his moves as an owner with respect to "trying and failing" and le4arning from his mistakes.
But as a fan at the stadium I think Synder sucks as an owner. He takes the fan experience completely out of the game.
1) I have to listen to full volume commercials throughout the game. You go to other stadiums and they play highlights from years past, music to pump up the stadium, etc. I have to listen to commercials at full volume. And he does it at times where the drama is the most. 3rd and long, defense on the field, opponents take a time out. "now a word from nextel". It takes the fans out, and I resent it. FEDEX field can get loud as hell, but Synder's decision to play commercials at the wrong time f's with the energy. He even turned the funky four into a commercial for Fedex. I seriously HATE having to listen to commercials. I think we should start a booing campaign. Every time they play a commercial, just boo it down.
2) No outside food allowed at the stadium. Philly fans were up in arms when they tried to implement that crap at the linc. I have to get searched twice now to make sure I don't bring in any turkey subs
3) No banners allowed. You can't hang a banner from the upper deck or at field level. It would take away from the commercial space.
4) No noise makers allowed
5) Not only can't I bring food in, but it kind of sucks. Last year was the first year I could actually get a grilled hot dog. Before they were just microwaved. Less clean up costs
6) He tried to prevent people from walking to the stadium so they had to pay for parking.
7) The guy he hired to do the pregame accouncing from WJFK is just a monkey.

Seriously, he sucks from a fan's perspective. His decisions take away the fan experience.
