Marcus Pollard Lands in Detroit

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

It didn't take long for former Indianapolis Colts tight end Marcus Pollard to find work.

Whirlwind negotiations over the weekend resulted in Pollard signing a three-year contract with the Detroit Lions this afternoon. The size of the deal wasn't immediately available, but it includes a $2.3 million signing bonus.

"We're excited for him. He's going to a good, young team," Glenn Schwartzman, Pollard's agent, said today. "Marcus believes this is a team that could really contend for their division next season."

The Lions posted a 6-10 record in 2004, a mark that included a 41-9 loss to Pollard and the Colts on Thanksgiving Day in Detroit.

Pollard drew immediate interest from several teams late last week after being released by the Colts in a cost-cutting move. He had scheduled a visit to Detroit Tuesday, but the Lions accelerated the timetable when several other teams increased their pursuit of the 10-year veteran.

"Things really heated up over the weekend," Schwartzman said.

Pollard, who couldn't be reached for comment, passed his physical this afternoon and then signed his contract.

While the transaction necessitates a relocation for Pollard, it represents a homecoming for his wife, Amani, who is from Detroit.

In another Colts-related matter, former starting left guard Rick DeMulling had a visit with the Buffalo Bills today.
