Nope the reports I heard said that it isn't unheard of to have earthquakes there. There was one in 2002 and two I think in 2001. And last year there was one here. Scott thought I was nuts but I called and told him either a plane crashed or it was an earthquake, sure enough. It was centered about 30 miles south of us! ;-)

I felt the one in VA last year. And even though I'd never been in one before there was no mistaking what it was. Of course until the news started reporting it a few minutes later everyone outside of the area thought I was bonkers. Did you feel the one today Jake?

No, it was not an earthquake. It was the BIG DOOR in Redskin Park slamming behind all those players who look for greener pastures elsewhere.

If it was a 2.0 earthquake as is being reported, I don't believe that it's something that is actually felt by people. I think that it's gotta register upwards of 3.0 or more to be noticed by more than just machines. . .

Actually, it is a bit more complicated than that. Magnitude is a measure of the energy released. If the earthquake is deep, the impact on the surface is small. A "small" magnitude earthquake can flatten a city if the focus happens to be shallow and underneath. This earthquake was very shallow at 9 Km of depth. The epicenter was only 8 Km away from Baltimore.

The magnitude scale is logarithmic. So, one more little extra number, say from 3 to 4, is many times more powerful an increase than 2 to 3.

The East coast of North America is a passive margin. An earthquake is a remarkable event. Please see:

Yes...it was 2.0 but was felt by several people who called in. Mostly the Pasadena, Glen Burnie area.

Yeah I heard people say they felt it. I even heard one guy on TOP say he heard a loud boom. So I guess earth quakes don't follow logic much like anything mother nature does.

They said on the radio that they aren't uncommon here in MD. We've had 10 or so since 1992. They're so small that they don't matter.

Could it be Lenny was in town, and his lunch wasn't agreeing with him ?
