I know 3 channels and 3 channels only... 73 (ESPN HD) 209 (ESPN 2) and 212 (NFL Network). The other channels just make people fat.

I love those channels, unfortunately I don't have the NFL network at school, ESPN is playing basketball and ESPN 2 is playing tennis.

It's easy for people to jump on the "It's cool to hate MTV" bandwagon... but honestly... it's one of the better channels on television...

MTV probably has been the biggest influnence on younger generations throughout the years with all of their campaigns. Choose or Loose has brought millions of young voters to the polls and has made them believe that they too can make a difference in this country... They made it "cool" to buy condoms and made it stupid not to wear one... Fight Discrimination Campaign has helped tear down stereotypes, atleast as far as the younger generation is concerned... Aids Awareness & HIV testing have been big projects of theirs also....

Along with they constantly bring a variety of new artists from different musical backgrounds together, and then expose them to their viewers.... I mean... It's not like if you turned to your local rock radio station, you'd ever hear rap or hip-hop music on there, and vise-versa for hip-hop stations... They help allow us to open or minds up to different things....

Heck they basically spawned Reality TV in America... and have given us shows like Beavis & Butthead, Liquid Television, Boiling Point & Jackass... which I know many of you on this site love....

I grew up as a kid with MTV when all they did was play videos... and yeah they don't play as many videos on their main channel now... but videos are overrated anyways... they taint the whole free thinking, "what is the message the is artist trying to get across" way that music is suppose to be used for...... music is meant to be heard not seen.... plus for 90% of the videos, once you've seen one, you've seen them all....

I'm not saying that the best way to run your life is to go watch MTV.. but MTV has been a source of positive things and awareness in this country... more so than CNN, MSNBC or any other news network that is so highly regarded here.....

While I agree that MTV has done alot for younger generations, as an older person I don't like it quite as much as I used to. That being said if you close your mind and only watch 3 channels, even if MTV is one of them you will be missing stuff.

And BTP are you trying to get hired on by MTV's marketing department or what?? Send them that post and you are a shoe in. ;-)
Whenever I start to get blue, I just breathe!

My favortie line from the Simpsons:

Flanders: "Looks like someone is having a pre-rapture party!"

Homer: "No Flanders, it's a meeting of gay witches for abortion , you wouldn't be interested!"

Well, when you grow old.. and you let yourself think old... then those things will happen... that's why they invented Martha Stewart and the Golden Girls... :D

The only show ever worth watching on MTV was LoveLine.

That was only popular in Philly. They needed the most information about sex education, do to the overwhelming number of inbreds accumulating there in the mid 80's.... Eagles Fans now are the result of this inbreeding surge in the 80's... :-"

Yes... the late 90's kiddie pop explosion was a big turn off... and MTV was a big part of that fad....but in being diverse they couldn't ignore what was "hot & cool" at the time... and now that era has mostly faded away....

at least they brought the headbangers ball back. but by doing so, they turned jamie jasta into the mainstream metal spokesperson. mtv is poison to all that is real music. need proof? look what happened to metallica when mtv put them in the spotlight. or snoop, after a bit of mtv air time. limp bizkits first album was pretty good, until all of the little 13 yr old girly's had to have fred durst's body. eminem's first stuff was raw, but after a little mtv poison, it all went south.

when i actually buy a cd, i buy it for the way it sounds, not what i saw in the video.

mtv = music career poison

I agree with alot of that.... That's why I stated that music videos are over-rated.... but alot of that too has to fall on the Artist... I mean... MTV not telling them to put out their crappy second album as fast as they can... and there are alot of musicians that have survived the video era and still have put out great album over and over again... but that doesn't usually happen in the Metal or the Hardcore Rap scene... and that's usually do to when they make that almighty "dollar"... there's no inspiration to write angry songs anymore... so there albums get worse, and come off as poppy... Some of the best Metal or Rap albums are when bands weren't big at the time of it's release...

Again... I think MTV is a medium to bring these great new musicians exposure... It's up to those musicians to decide if it's about the music or the money when they are making their next album...

But I do agree... I could do away with music videos... :D

Didn't MTV run the Andy Dick reality show? I thought that was pretty funny, whenever I would catch an episode this past summer.

. . .or was that VH1?
