offseason moves
The redskins are obviously getting rid of gardner and mcants.
they sucked this year and we need a better receiving squad than the one we have right now.
we also need to sign a pretty big center so we can pull guards more easily.
Fred smoot is gonna be leaving because he wants too much money.
Do you think signing musgrave was a good move or not?
i hope no big changes will happen in the defense

I don't think it's a given that we are getting rid of Gardner and McCants both. I think Joe may have been playing Gardner to get trade value out of him, while knowing McCants would be the #2 next season. Just a thought anyway...
We definitely need a new center. Hopefully we will draft one of the big 2 and let Raymer start until he's ready.
I agree that Smoot is likely gone. Nothing to do with us, just that he wants #1 money, and he won't be able to get it here so....
I think anytime you sign a former OC as a QB coach, you've made a smart move.
On defense, I see a stud DE, mebbe another DT and a CB. Probably only start the new DE though. If Smoot leaves, we may pick up a new starting CB in free agency also.
I seriously doubt we would trade Lavar. Not many would want to take on his salary, let alone right after a major injury.

The Vikings, with their abysmal defense, would likely be a good candidate for any Lavar-trade speculation.
I agree that Gardner and Smoot are likely gone. McCants didn't "suck" this year...he just wasn't given the opportunity to play. When he did play, he played physical...like he always does. I think he'll be back next year....and he'll start all 16 games for us.

I second all of that Scottskins,

Jansen on his broken thumbs:
"It’s limited me in some ways but has been beneficial in others. It’s like I have a couple of clubs on my hands. I just have to hit people with them."

I am not sure how free agency works, but maybe we could trade Gardner, Smoot, and our third round pick for Moss.
Then we could get a DE or Center with our 1st draft pick. Or could trade our first for later picks.
-Gardner's gone
-Better Reciever
-Possiblity to draft big center or DE
-Fred Smoots contract issue would be taken care of with Minn.
-On defense we will still have a very strong group of linebackers including Lavar Arrington. We will also have Springs who was covering the #1 WRs and Sean Taylor and Lavar A. will be fun to watch.

I think we might keep McCants he really didn't do all that bad. Arrington won't get traded, or at least I hope, hes to big of a thing for the Redskins if they trade him the fans will be pissed and they don't want that. Smoots gone because hes to greedy. All we need is a defensive end and maybe a cornerback because Springs is pretty old but a big center would be pretty nice too.

1) you NEVER spend a first round pick on a center.
2) there is some real depth at DE this draft so we could get one in the second or third round.
3) if Garner is gone we draft williams from USC.
4) if Smoot leaves we might go for a CB since there is not alot of top ten CB's in this draft.
5) look for us to upgrade at fullback. Rock may be gone. Gibbs was clearly frustrated in not converting 3rd and shorts and red zone production.
6) finally ......how much cap room does "the daniel" have for free agents?

I'm not sure how much cap space we have, but hopefully enough to just get one star....whether it's john abraham or plaxico burress...one or the other. that way, we know exactly how to draft come april

1. Jeff Faine (CLE), Center, was taken in the 1st round in 2003....he is pretty damn good. Sometimes you take the best player on the board. O-Linemen can last 10 years. Pretty good investment.
2. We shouldn't updgrade at fullback...because we don't have a fullback. Gibbs does not use them, he uses H-Backs (Chris

3. The Redskins are only $4 million under the cap right now, they are looking to restructure Samuels contract and cut a few players and that should free up some cap room. Will not be an offseason like the past 2-3 years.

ey) Rock Cartwright is the 3rd running back under Portis and Betts. 3rd and shorts takes the entire O-line to block correctly...this should be addressed in the offseason, and with Jansen returning from injury.

Now that I agree with! I think that after the dust settles we will not see any dramatic changes this year. I am hoping that we do not lose anybody on defense but make some additions and changes to both game planning and players on offense.
my 2 cents!

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Unless, once in a while, it makes sense. Russ Grimm was a center/guard, I think, at Pitt. Bobby Beathard traded a future number 1 to get a number 3 that he used for Grimm.
Anyway, the draft always surprises me. Somehow, I can remember more sure-fire-star first rounders, "impact players" who flopped, than "impact players" who had a positive impact.
That's probably just psychology -- we remember the catstrophes -- but think of Ryan Leaf, Tim Couch, our own Michael Westbrook and Heath Shuler.

Some guy named Mark May (Hog) was drafted 20th in the 1st round of the 1981 NFL draft.
Sometimes you take a stud, other times you get dirty diamonds in the late rounds and hand em over to Buges.
I'd like to throw a name into the potential CB mix! Ty Law!
The sports talk guys in New England do not think he will be back next year. I'm not sure about the financial side of this but if we lose Fred we could do a lot worse.

Here is my take on the Redskins offseason.
Fred Smoot = Bailey last year. Franchise him and get a second round pick for him, because someone will pick him up. If he really wanted to be here he would take his 10 million signing bonus and understand for the team to get better he can suck up the extra 4 he wants.
Antonio Pierce is a MUST. True redskin. Aquisitions id love to see are probably john abraham, charles woodson and one of the WR out there once you let smoot go with the franchise tag, and then after that a bunch of no name role players, aka ryan clark, garnell wilds.
In the draft i think we have to attempt to secure either braylon edwards or mike williams and then get a solid lineman, te and de. Lets not forget last years draft went pretty darn well.

I would not franchise Smoot. I might franchise Pierce, but not Smoot.
In fact, I retract. I wouldn't slap that tag on either one. In the defensive scheme they're playing in, you or I could be a star !!

I hope you mean DCGloryYears828791 -or- yourself. I am hopeless.

There you have it ladies and gentlemen our CB needs are covered for 2005. TC and DCGlory are our projected starters in training camp.

Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!
