Source: Ravens To Fire Cavanaugh After Season

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Source: Ravens To Fire Cavanaugh After Season

Baltimore Ravens offensive coor-dinator Matt Cavanaugh will be fired after the season, a highly placed team source with knowledge of the situation confirmed Wednesday night. The Ravens rank 31st in the 32-team NFL in total offense, and Cavanaugh has become a target for criticism on talk radio, Internet message boards and newspaper columns. The team source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, cited the team’s offensive struggles since Cavanaugh became the coordinator in 1999 as the primary reason behind the decision. Under Cavanaugh, the Ravens have never ranked higher than 14th in total offense. The source also cited the intense public pressure Cavanaugh has fallen under as a contributing factor. Ravens coach Brian Billick would have to sign off on Cavanaugh’s departure be-cause Billick’s contract grants him the power to hire and fire his assistant coaches. Several Raven officials have refuted this story as of press time.

That's pretty weak. Their QB sucks and their best RB and their best WR (Heap) have been hurt this year.

Isnt Brian Billick supposed to be an offensive genius? Seems pretty unfair to blame it all on Cavanaugh.

Ravens And Cavanaugh Split Ways

Baltimore Ravens coach Brian Billick announced that the Ravens and offensive coordinator Matt Cavanaugh have mutually split ways. Several media outlets for the past week have reporter that Cavanaugh will be fired as the team continued to deny those reports. Cavanaugh quarterbacked the 1976 national champions at the University of Pittsburgh and won Super Bowl rings with the Giants and Patriots. He is the only independent offensive coordinator in Ravens' history. The team's first head coach, Ted Marchibroda (1996-98), simultaneously handled the offensive duties. Cavanaugh was not made available for comment.
