Shawn Springs could return to practice later this week, but his status remains uncertain for this Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys. The veteran cornerback sat out the 49ers game due to a concussion suffered in the Dec. 12 contest against the Philadelphia Eagles.
"There might be a chance we could get Shawn back for some work this week," head coach Joe Gibbs said. "We'll see toward the end of the week."
Springs' official status for Sunday's game will be announced on Wednesday when the Redskins release their injury report.
If Springs is unable to play, Walt Harris would start in his place for the second consecutive game. In the 49ers game, Harris recorded a key interception that helped seal the win in the fourth quarter.
Elsewhere on the injury front, the Redskins emerged from the 49ers game with an assortment of bumps and bruises--and little else of note.
Safety Sean Taylor suffered a bruised lip that required stitches in the first half; he returned to the game. H-back Chrisey sustained a calf injury, but he also finished the game.
"I think other than that, it's the best we've come out of a game this year," Gibbs said.
Gibbs praised LaVar Arrington for his effort on Saturday after missing the previous 11 games with knee injuries.
"He could easily have said, Hey look, I'm not running the risk of injuring this thing, we're not going anywhere, so I'm going to sit down,'" Gibbs said. "He didn't do that. He was really upset that we didn't let him play [a week earlier] against Philly. So I think it says a lot about his competitive spirit, the fact that he cares about the football team and that he wants to get back in there and play.
Arrington saw action in a limited number of plays as coaches tried to ease him back into playing condition. Lemar Marshall started in his place.
"I think we had about the right number of plays for him," Gibbs said. "He didn't seem to get tired. And he made some plays. It was good for him and I think it gave him some confidence."
