IRVING – The NFL management council told teams Wednesday to project a salary cap of $85.5 million to $86.5 million for the 2005 season.
That would be a jump of about $5 million from this season when teams were allowed to spend $80.58 million. Players received 64.75 percent of the designated gross revenue (radio and television rights plus ticket sales) this season. They will receive 65.5 percent in 2005.
The official salary cap figure will be released in February after the final revenue numbers for the 2004 season are computed. The teams learned of the projection Wednesday at the NFL's annual labor seminar.
Why everyone thinks we will be in cap hell in 2006 is beyond me. As long as you keep moving out the date with renegotiations, the salary cap always increases enough to cover current salaries and dead money. Danny knows this, and that's why he spends so freely.

The Redskins have yet to ever really be in cap trouble. I'm thinking we'll never have to dismantle like the Ravens did shortly after winning the Superbowl.

I know that there are other teams out there (iggles, etc..) who have a lot of "room" BUT that's BS if you don't take advantage of it and a lot of these FO types are wimps!
We have always been "told" that we are in "cap hell"! Pls. give us an idea of how "hell" is looking for next year and beyond. I think it's going to be manageable but I am hoping that is not just wishful thinking.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

If Brunel retires, I believe it's a larger cap hit than if we release him after June 1st. I think it would be around a $7 million hit if we released him or he retires prior to June 1st. I could be wrong??

You're not. Basically, Brunell still has $7 million of his signing bonus yet to be paid. Before June 1st that all has to be paid next season, after June 1st, $2 million next year, $5 million in 2006. It's just a matter of how long we can push out the payments on that $7 million he is guaranteed.
