Hognostications: Weeks 1-17 (and rankings)

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

But yet next week, again, the sky is falling and TRO will enter triumphant into the gates of glory with a PERFECT Hognostication. Give him a break guys (not really  ) at least he defeated his rival Punu.

I am really hoping SOMEBODY, ANYBODY, to come up with a PERFECT hognosticated NFL week. If miracles truly happen, TRO has a chance. But there is a reason why they are called miracles in the first place.

Redeemed: You dig deeper and deeper every week. Man, you really do. Just when I am ready to give you a break, you dig deeper.

You better deliver REAL SOON. Otherwise, you will manage to exhibit yourself in front of the ENTIRE board.

You are either courageous, not too strategic to play low at least for a while, or definitely just plain stubborn. We'll see.

You have TONS of space to make up for with those three ahead of you. Let's see. Good luck (seriously, not only because you actualy need it).

I thought you liked to jab. You are not going soft on me now Redeemed, Are you? :hmm:

What gives, RiC? A week ago, you wondered if my stance had softened. I replied with an obvious "NO", and then I responded with a 12-4 finish (best finish in a while for me, btw ).

I thought you liked the jabs, the banter, and such. Maybe your spot atop the Hognostication mountain has finally gotten to your head. No worries. I'm comin' after ya!!! Win, Lose, or Draw!!! I'll relieve you of the need to "give me a break".

Why "lay low"? Viva la courage d' TRO!!!! :celebrate:

You and your HUMONGOUS MOUTH!!!

Let's do some numbers, Shall we?

a) Number of week wins:

Redskin in Canada 6 wins
Redeemed 1 (accidental) win

You can not even catch up with me in this category because the 3 remaining weeks do not allow you to even come close to my score (in the most improbable case that you could win all three of them).

Let us try something different then:

b) After 13 weeks
Totals _ Poster

130 - 62 Redskin in Canada
115 - 77 Redeemed

Ther is a difference of 15 games between us. You say you will catch up with me. Let us have a little bet on this:

If you do catch up with me and tie the score between next week and the end of the season, you get to design a signature that I would wear for 200 POSTS.

But if you do not catch up with me as you say you will "with great courage", then I get to design a signature for you that you would wear for an equivalent 200 POSTS.

Deal?

So, if you are as courageous and sure about coming after me as you say you are, you will accept. But if you do not, well, then we will know in front of the ENTIRE board that you are all a HUMONGOUS MOUTH and no courage at all.

Deal?

In other words, PUT UP or SHUT UP!!!

Deal?

I knew that "the doors of GLORY" was a tempting trap far too difficult to resist by yourself. You fell nicely in it.

So, how about it? I am calling you on this one "The Courageous One".

I accept this challenge BUT only if it is FAIR.

In other words, if you succeed and get a PERFECT score, I would ask the kind assistance of JansenFan to post the sticky. BUT if you do not get a PERFECT score we get to post ANOTHER sticky:

Redeemed was not smart enough to see the trap laid down by Redskin in Canada and his HUMONGOUS MOUTH got the best of him yet again in the Hognostications thread.

By the way, congratulations to joebagadonuts for his score. He has played ONLY 12 NFL weeks as opposed to others who have played ALL 13 weeks. Still, and as announced and hognosticated in my total scores post made a week ago, he managed to caught up with Redeemed who has played ALL 13 weeks (an extra week).

For the record, their scores today are:

joebagadonuts with 12 weeks and the other guy with 13 weeks:

115 - 61 joebagadonuts
115 - 77 Redeemed

The percentage of wins is of course vastly in favour of joe (65.3% against 59.9%). But if it comes down to pure number of wins, the two are tied at least temporarily before joe passes him bye on his way up.

So, Redeemed this is how is done when a poster catches up with somebody else in spite of having 16 FEWER opportunities to predict wins. Let alone the fact that you HAD your chances and you are still 15 games BEHIND yours truly. Live and learn buddy.

I am still on for the two challenges handed to you above in this thread. Hello? Anybody "courageous" enough to accept them?

Why not just drop the WORST week and the BEST week from everyone? That would actually let people who have mised a couple of weeks still be in the running and increases the number of vying particpants.

By dropping the best week and the worst week, you don't over-penalize the people that made picks every week too, too much.

Or you could just drop the worst week to let a few extra people into the mix.

Either way.... you'd account for people who just missed one week and obviously from RiC's notes on joebagodonuts above... even people who had missed two weeks would be back in the fray with one set of results tossed out.

I just thought that it might be a way for you to 'open' up the competition a little more.

Gives everyone a mulligan.

My 2 cents

Two points:

1) I am a party involved in this friendly rivalry of wits, knowledge and luck. Thus, I abstain from selecting any one given option in particular. BUT I support the initiative to OPEN UP the whole thing to a larger number of posters in whatever fashion is decided.

2) Since, it is YOUR price to the winner, you get to choose how and who gets it. I suggest that Texas Hog, the staff and you put your heads together to decide a good approach and I will simply implement it in my accounting.

3) Delegation of responsibilities is important and I respect it enormously. Texas Hog is the staff member responsible for the creation of Hognostications. I am only the self-appointed accountant, motivator and sometimes critic of the collective group of Hognosticators. So, I will stick to my accounting and cheerleading/critic job. You guys decide this one any way you want to. The more competition the better.

Besides I have already not one but TWO prizes coming soon. One early next week with a STICKY and then a signature design for 200 posts.

For your information, if you drop only the top and low weeks with an attempt to bring a larger group of competitors with the SAME number weeks in the end, let me tell you what would happen based on the statistics available. Food for thought by your group:

a) If the total number of qualifying weeks is made to be 15 and those that participate in ALL weeks at the end drop the top and lowest weekly score, the following posters would qualify for the competition if all of them keep on participating:

1niksdeR, Chris Luva Luva, joebagadonuts, JSPB22, Redeemed, Redskin in Canada, and Texas Hog

Or

b) If the number of qualifying weeks is made to be lower, say 11, and those that participate in ALL weeks at the end drop the top 3 and lowest 3 weekly scores (corresponding numbers for others with greater than 11), the following -larger- number of posters could qualify for the competition if all of them keep on participating:

In addition to the above, you would have:

FanfromAnnapolis, Justice Hog, Punu, SkinsJock, and skinz74.

Or

c) If the number of qualifying weeks is made to be slighly lower, say 9 (still statistically meaningful), and those that participate in ALL weeks at the end drop the top 4 and lowest 4 weekly scores (corresponding numbers for others), the following yet -larger- number of posters could qualify for the competition if all of them keep on participating:

AZHog, Fios, hkhog and Tazlah. (a very tough group)

Conclusions.

The message is that the lower the number of qualifying weeks is set to be, the -larger- the number of Hognosticators that could qualify grows.

Just My 2 cents . After all, I am only the accountant.

Whoa, whoa, whoa... easy fellah.

I don't want to make it complicated and it's really none of my business, I was just an innocent on-looker making a possible suggestion. You and TH have this completely under control and I don't wanna do anything to indicate otherwise. And I also don't want to make it too difiicult for the accountant. :-)

Personally, I think one mulligan is likely the most anyone should get... that let's people who somehow missed a week entirely not get completely eliminated... It also let's people who might miss two weeks get back in to it as one week's worth of wins is likely all that can be made up over a 16-game schedule and dropping a 0 wins week would maybe allow an exceptional performance in 15 of 17 weeks to still give someone a shot...

I also think that any more mulligans would intrinsically punish those that had participated from the start and that's not fair either. Those that have done it every week or every week but one SHOULD be the only ones vying for the bigprize.

My 2 cents

But it's TOTALLY up to RiC and TH to decide... it's your guys gig and I don't profess to want to be any more a part of it than facilitator.

I think it should come down to one week, the last week. Sudden death. For all the marbles. One week to determine the true Hognosticator. But, then again, that might be unfair to the ones who never posted picks throughout the season. :-"

Personally, I can see the advantages to dropping the low score, and even possibly the top score from each poster, but to drop 8 weeks is absurd. That is half the season.
