Oh they're out there man. I think the complaint was that "the game has passed him by". oh here you go:
http://www.the-hogs.net/forum/viewtopic. ... 6&start=15Has NFL passed by Joe Gibbs? My favorite post is:
1. '04 defense was very good, without lavarr and champ - williams ran the defense
2. '04 offense was putrid - gibbs ran offense. not only that but the other teams knew what plays were coming and the O showed little improvement from week to week.
3. gibbs cannot get sean taylor to return his calls - this one is simply embarassing. while shockey isn't at OTA's in NY, when coach Tom calls Shockey answers.
let me ask you this, what has gibbs done to show that the game hasn't passed him by?
hahah.
I guess I should have read the entire thread before responding.

hah. oooookay. Like we're all supposed to forget about the hall of fame QB under center.
We've had eight different head coaches in the past 15 years. Pretty sure you're completely full of s*** in your analysis.
Then why is it that great coaches always have great players? You think its coincidence? Luck of the draw?
Mainly because they've had good, stable front offices putting their teams together. There's a reason that guys like Bill Polian and Ron Wolf are in the hall of fame.
We've had McCloughan here for less than a year, man. Its going to take some time to fix the talent issues on this team caused by fifteen years of bad team management. If you're one of these goofballs who believes that a Bill Cowher comes in here tomorrow and immediately starts winning, you're delusional.
Seriously, who are the players on our defense or offense that anybody is legitimately afraid of? I don't see QBs shying away from Culliver or Breeland. Nobody is double teaming Reed or Garcon. Clearly, everybody has figured out how to stop Morris.
We've literally tried every possible coaching hire over the past 15 years. We had the tough, experienced guy. We had the *sh$t* hot college guy. We had the super bowl winning guy. We had the completely out of nowhere guy. We've had the successful OC. We even brought out the hall of fame guy. Is it some coincidence that none of these guys achieved anything close to consistent success?
We can continue to hire a new coach every two or three years or we can get real about the fact that the team needs to be rebuilt by someone who knows what he's doing and has something resembling a long term plan. I know what the fans are going to be doing/saying, but I really hope the organization has finally figured this out.

I see that "game has passed Gibbs by" thread left as lasting an impression on you as it did on me!

I just perused that thread. Epic.

Yeah, we had a TON of threads where people were calling for Gibbs' head, even during our best seasons with him. It's safe to say that every single Redskin player and coach has had at least several critics on THN.

riggofan wrote:Ah yes. Calling out the coaches when its clear that the talent on the team isn't good enough... Redskins fans second favorite sport next to calling for the backup QB and just slightly ahead of putting too much value on 4th quarter performances in preseason games. Its just so tiresome.
I'll bet I can find a thread for just about every single coach, assistant coach and coordinator going back ten years on this website with fans posting about how that coach doesn't know what he's doing, isn't calling the right plays, isn't making good adjustments, etc; etc;
If you've coached any sport long enough you know how true this is. These coaches aren't idiots. There is only so much scheming any coach can do, and you can only do so much to hide your team's weaknesses. Usually the team with the most talent on the field is going to win, end of story.
Well why should we even employ coaches then?! Since they don't have anything to do with the success or failures of the production of the team. Part of coaching is getting the best out of your players and learning to adapt. We have talent, Pierre Garcon once led the league in receptions (not targeted enough anymore), Alfred Morris 2nd only to Marshawn Lynch in rushing yards the past 3 years, Trent Williams All-PRO, Desean Jackson Multiple Pro Bowls, Dustin Hopkins young talent and I do not think you can argue that Jordan Reed is a top 5-10 TE in the league yet we are 28th in offense and 29th in scoring. With all of this said the offense is 2nd in sacks least sacks allowed. So only thing logical to me is you point some of the finger at the coaching staff. Of course not all of it is their fault but they are obviously not utilizing the talent they have. I'm not saying we have the best talent but we do not have the worse like our rankings suggest.
The team we love to hate, Dallas Cowboys have been without Romo and Dez Bryant for most of the year with T.Williams, C. Beasley and an aging Witten yet they have scored more POINT than the Redskins. You tell me whats the problem if a good portion isn't the coaching? Are you seriously think our ranking 28th is reflective of the 28th ranked talent in the league on offense?

At this level the players are all very talented and the coaches are all very good - the fact remains that some are better than others and some are better suited to different systems than others - Jay Gruden and Sean McVay are both good coaches - they have another 8 games to show that they offer this franchise what Scot is looking for in a HC and OC
I agree with riggofan that the franchise is better off staying the course because we have not had the benefit of assembling a group of players that are suited to both playing with each other and in a system that they were brought here for ...
however ... Scot did not hire Jay Gruden and that may play a role in his decision
I like Jay Gruden, I just think that this franchise may not be a good place for him and that is not because he's not a good HC - there are horses for courses and I'm not sure this is the right place for him ...
thankfully, I don't have a clue and he could very well show Scot that he's worth keeping

Nah if he was good he would have figured out how to beat the Patriots last Sunday. Its not that hard really if you're a good coach.

Jay Gruden is a good HC - I'm just not sure that he's going to get another year here is all ... Dan Snyder doesn't care and he can afford it
my hope is that Scot will make that call and Snyder will back him on it, whatever it is

Just being snarky. I honestly have no idea if Gruden is going to be a good HC. He wouldn't be the first offensive coordinator who wasn't suited for the top job. Same with McVay. Good OC? I have no idea yet. But we need to get this roster rebuilt and most importantly we need to add a couple
legit playmakers. I like what's gone on with the rebuild so far, but we're still on course to be an average at best roster. We really need these next first round picks to be "special" guys.

^^ I'd partly agree with that ... IMO we need to try and draft as many players as possible and these next 2 drafts should be for adding players on both the offensive and defensive lines ... use the free agent market more for depth and to add a stud CB or Safety
I agree with you in that both Sean and Jay have done pretty well all things considered - however, I'm still worried about our stupid owner

We've invested heavily on the o-line the past few drafts, and I'll bet Kouandjio ends up being an option for the line by next year.
I'm hoping next April the focus will be on defense. Its hurting. Need more help on the D-line like you said. Pass rusher. Inside linebacker. CB, safety.
I'm really down on free agency myself. Not just because of our spotty record, but if you look around the league at the big time free agents who moved around last year, I don't think the majority of them really seemed to have paid off.

I have faith in Scot and this FO - stats like that are easy to overcome if the guys making the choices know what they're doing - I do agree though on the premise of continuing to focus on the draft like we did - I think Scot & the FO will only add free agents where they really need too rather than like dumb and dumber did in the past - having good big guys and good depth is a huge plus - we also have some players on IR that will help next season ...

I think so too. I also think he did more in free agency last year than he would normally. Just no way to fill all of our needs through the draft last year.
